Triangle quilt along finish!

This is the last week to link up to the Triangle Quilt Along over at Sassy Quilter. Yesterday I quilted and bound my first quilt which is baby size 36" sq.  I wanted to keep the quilting simpler but freehand in the center so I did a design from Pajama Quilter called Dwirling. A little ruler work in the checkerboard and white borders. The thread I used was YLI variegated which I had never used before-it played well with a prewound magna-glide bobbin. I really enjoyed making this one and very happy with how it turned out. And look at the cute stripe backing that I just happened to have in my stash, LOL.  Love that orange dot for the binding.

Here is the second baby size 36" triangle quilt I did for the Triangle Quilt Along.  I just finished quilting and binding this one this morning!  This is a much simpler and quicker one to do, but still fun! I love working with the bright colors for the babies. Keeping softness in mind I quilted a water freehand design on my longarm with the same YLI variegated thread. I was going to do a different design on it and then when I got it pinned on the frame I decided the turtles needed water to swim in :-)  The binding is the turtle fabric also, and I had to use the cute polka dots for the backing. I will be donating these 2 quilts to our local Neonatal unit.

Thank you Paula for hosting this fun event. Be sure to go check out all the other triangle quilt finished too. I am on my way over there now to link up and check them out :-)

Birds and Flowers

This bird panel was purchased last summer while on vacation in Pennsylvania and I have been staring at it wondering how I could take it apart.  I tried coming up with different settings in my mind and in EQ and so far nothing really grabbed me. I knew I wanted to only use 4-6 of the birds to keep it a usable wall hanging size. The panel is twice the birds you see here, so there will be more bird quilts in the future!

Last week I decided to give Google image search one more try and this is what I came up with. I think it is the perfect setting, imagine sitting in your house looking out the window at birds in your trees-pretty normal nature!  And once again the google search inspired me, this time with beautiful Attic Window quilts.

This was my first shot ever at Attic Windows and I have not done a lot of Y seams but I pulled it off on my first try! I went slowly with each Y and it came out the first time-I'm very happy with it's look!  I found the perfect fabrics in my stash to compliment the colors in the panel-gotta love a large stash of fabric, LOL

A little more progress on an UFO/WIP-it has lots of small pieces and is taking me forever but I will get there! It is the Pat Speth Star and Crown pattern.

So now onto the flower part of this post...

Doesn't it just say summer!!  It is a pattern by Joined At the Hip. I pieced the background and borders, then quilted it and appliqued it after it was all quilted and bound. It makes it way easier to quilt the background that way.  Hope you all have a great quilty week! And as always check out the linky parties on the left side bar for tons of inspiration :-)

Triangle flimsy's

Yesterday I mentioned all the things I had hoped to get done, guess what, I did get them all done. Wow that felt really good last night to have accomplished so much!
I wanted to show my Triangle flimsy's today that I am making in the Triangle Quilt Along-link on the side bar.
I really am happy with how this top one looks. These are the Isosceles triangles I made using a Quilt in a Day ruler, these were from 6" strips. I was going for a 36" sq. quilt, so after piecing the triangles I decided I wanted to add this cute checkerboard border and make it look like it was floating around the triangles. I used 2"cut white borders on each side of the checkerboard(which were also 2"cut).
I wanted to show how I dealt with the thicker intersections-I used my yellow Whacker. It is made especially for fabrics so it doesn't break down the fibers. I steam the intersection, then while hot, whack it twice, it really does make it lay flatter. I usually whack it on the back but sometimes it will get a little whack on the front too :-)

And this quilt was made using the 60 deg. ruler. I won't put any borders on this one as it is really close to 36" now. Next week I will be quilting these up.

Totally busy Tuesday!

A little house cleaning, a little binding, a little triangle sewing, and a few errands make for a totally busy Tuesday! So far I finished binding this little wall hanging. It was a panel of 8 flower vases by Sandy Gervais. I took them apart and picked the ones I wanted to put in this hanging, rearranged, and bordered them with other prints from a different line of Sandy's. Added 3 outside borders, quilted and bound it. I also managed the cleaning too this morning. Now I am off to piece those triangle rows for the QAL over at Sassyquilters blog.
Linking up at Freemotion by the River and Let's Bee Social this week.

This is another of Sandy's panels that I completed last summer-similar but different, I like them both a lot!

Triangle progress plus...

This weeks homework on the Triangle Quilt Along at Sassy Quilter's is piecing the rows. I am making smaller quilts so I have 2 different ones. The first(on the left) is using the 60 degree ruler. As I was laying this out last week I realized I needed more prints so back into the brights stash I went and pulled out more. And I added the turtle fabric in there that I was going to use only for the border, think I still have enough to do that also. I am going for an overall size of 36" as that is what Neonatal requests.
The quilt on the right has an isosceles triangle using a Quilt in a Day ruler. I have plans for a neat border on this one. Since I had to cut more prints I have way more trianlges to use up in at least 2 more quilts!!

Plus I finished quilting and binding these 3 table toppers. The patriotic ones I had pieced a few months back, the butterfly disappearing nine patch just recently.

I really like how the quilting came out on this blue one.

Linking up at Let's Bee Social, Fort Worth Fabric and Freshly Pieced , see side bar for the links to some awesome inspiration-I'm headed over there now to look around!

Customer Christmas quilt

This week I have been quilting this cute Christmas quilt that Randa made. The blocks were paper pieced. Randa said she prefered straight line quilting, so keeping that in mind I tried to come up with different designs that would coordinate with each block.  The internet and books are great inspiration! First I stitched in the ditch the green around the block, and the block itself and stitched egg and dart design in the sashings. Then I came back and did each block design and matched thread color to the fabric. Randa I hope you like it, I think it came out really nice!  Thanks for letting me quilt it for you!

The quilt is 60x60, Glide thread on top, Sew Fine in bobbin, Hobbs 80/20 batting.

These Santa's have a brick design in the background.

 I love these star blocks!
The tree blocks were really fun to stitch!

Three more outfits and a WIP customer quilt

I had a blast making up these outfits for those popular 18" dolls!
These two are ready for summer in their cute sundresses. And don't cha just love those hats!!

And this is a customer Christmas paper pieced quilt I am quilting on this week. The blocks are only 7". Each row is a different theme so I am trying to come up with different quilting designs. I stabilized it by SID with green thread in the narrow green border of each block, and I was able to do the sashing design between the blocks at the same time. Now it will be easier to roll back and forth according to the thread color I have in the machine to stitch in each block.

Linking up with the linky's on the left side bar. Ok I am off to check out all the goodies!
