DRS challenge #150

DRS challenge this week is 'I pine for you'. We are to use anything with pine in it. I chose to use a stamp from DRS and heat embossed it with silver. And since I just got a new pack of teal card stock I just had to use it and have a different color for some Christmas cards.  Gray is a favorite of mine recently too, so I started with a gray card and layered it with aqua, holly leaves embossed teal, another aqua layer before the final embossed white layer. Add in some silver ribbon and I have a rich looking Christmas card.

Gotta love finishes!

Yes as promised I have more finishes to show you today. The crown and star quilt top is now quilted-I blogged about the top here.  I needed to get it finished to show on Monday night at guild since it is another of my UFO challenges so I went back to my standby of hook swirls and a plain muslin back since it was a wide back. The quilt is only about 48 by 64.  It will become a donation quilt next year.

So in making the above quilt I made lots of the crown blocks and not so many of the star blocks. Since I got tired of the quilt and couldn't bring myself to make more stars I decided to make another quilt with the crowns and add some plain blocks for another donation quilt. This flimsy is done in my book as I will donate it to MQS community outreach booth for them to quilt and give away.

This star table topper only needed it's binding so now it is done too!
I want to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving!!

UFO saga continues

I was on such a roll a couple weeks ago finishing up UFO's, last week I didn't get nearly as much done. This week I am back on a roll, LOL  Just finished quilting and binding on this Top Hat Tessellations quilt-the pattern and fabric came from Bolines. It is one of 6 UFO's I entered into our local guild challenge this year. We have to show them Monday night at guild.  For the quilting I decided to use a panto-I know gasp, spit, sputter!!  For those of you that have been following my blog you know I LOVE to freehand or use rulers, I just don't enjoy panto's, I think it is because I love watching the design form as I am stitching. After the first couple rows on this quilt I settled in to it and it went along pretty quickly. Although I am a bit disappointed that you can't see the quilting on the front, it's busy fabric and you don't need to see it. But is sure shows pretty on the back.
Doesn't it look nice in my living room! Yes I am keeping this one.

And onto more UFO's. I had these 2 purses in the process for the fall craft shows but they just didn't get done.  Since they were taking up valuable space on my counters in the sewing room I decided yesterday afternoon to just finish them up.

I have another UFO I finished this morning, I will share it tomorrow after I get a picture taken.

Inspired by Color-DRS challenge

Inspired by color is the theme for this week's DRS challenge. Shades of green and red as in a Poinsettia plant is the inspiration. I had this cute designer plaid paper that I based my design around. Last year for Christmas I got the Silhouette Cameo die cutter and I cut out several Christmas designs and I have been having loads of fun using them. The candle and holly leaves were cut using it.
I was very fortunate to win last weeks challenge at DRS, they are sending me 3 new stamps! Thanks DRS :-0

Bargello and a scrap bag runner

My friend Rhonda pieced this gorgeous Bargello and asked me to quilt it for her. We agreed on a freehand feather swirl design I learned from Judi Madsen at GreenFairyQuilts. I love this design and I love the colors in Rhonda's quilt.  We used Hobbs 80/20 batting and glide dark tan thread.  Thanks Rhonda for letting me quilt for you!

Now with all orders fill and craft shows done for the season I decided to play with these scraps. They were a scrap bag I got at a garage sale a couple years ago, all cut into 2.5" x 4.5" rectangles. I just could never figure out what I wanted to make with them, until I saw a schnibbles pattern in a book at our guild and thought that would be perfect!

So here is part of the scraps made into this runner-I love how it came out. I will whip up another just like it and have them ready to quilt for next year's shows.  I have another thought of a runner design for more of the scraps too. There were a lot in that little bag :-)

DRS-challenge Hang It Up

Today I made a card to enter into the DRS Hang It Up challenge this week. I used 2 DRS stamps to make my card, the Jingle bell and the Christmas music. Add some designer paper, baker's twine and bling and I have another Christmas card done :-)

The week's work

I am so happy that I managed to get 6 UFO quilt tops done and 1 UFO runner since Sunday!!!!
I showed the first on Monday-the crumb quilt. Here are a few more...

This is from a class I took in 2008 from Pat Speth called Stars and Crowns. I did a quicker border on it to get it done :-)   This one I will quilt up before Dec. 3rd. as I need to show it for my guild UFO challenge.

This is a coin variation I made up. I did add another row of beige and a print strip, I found it hanging on my design wall after I snapped this picture, LOL
 A star and spiderweb quilt.

A string quilt.

And a wedge quilt. This one and the above 3 will be donated as tops to the Community Outreach booth at MQS(machine quilters showcase) 2015 in Cedar Rapids IA.

I wish all of you the best at getting your UFO's out and finishing them up-it is such a great freeing feeling!!  Now I have a ton more to yet so off to decide which is next.

A crumby Sunday

I Worked on a crumb quilt on Sunday and finished it this morning.  I had 30 crumb blocks pieced from the past couple years and needed to complete a UFO for sanity sake!

I added the royal blue sashings and cornerstones yesterday afternoon, and sewed the blocks and rows together.  Then I thought I would just put on some print border but didn't have anything in the stash that would work. But with tons of strips and strings in the leftover bins I set to work piecing the borders. I managed to get 2 borders on last night before I got too tired. And finised the last 2 this morning-I was up very early!  So now I have an almost free quilt-gotta love that.  I will donate this top to the Community Outreach booth at MQS(Machine Quilters Showcase) this spring.

Oh the wonderful feeling of having at least one UFO off my counter(sigh).  the sashings turned out aqua in the pic but they really are royal blue!

I will be joining  Freemotion at the River and Let's Bee Social linky party-links on the side bar. And don't forget to go check out the other party goers!!

Card making time!

I finally get to make a Christmas card!!  I have been itching to have some stamping and card making time for a while now, but with getting ready for the craft shows I just couldn't take the time. I follow the DRS stamping blog all the time and admire all the neat cards they show. They have a weekly challenge, this weeks is to use only half of a design. So I chose one of their cute snowman stamps and their tree stamp to complete my card for the challenge. Adding some striped, plaid and polka dot designer papers on a brown cardstock along with some rhinestones and a snowflake die cut I have my card all done!

I've got to

get back to work it seems. I got a call from one of the craft shows on Sunday morning and she says if you have 'anything' at home finished please bring it!!!  The show had only been open 3 days out of 12!!  OK so she is not out of my stuff but did sell lots and you know the better your supply the better your chances are of selling more, and of course I want to do that, LOL  Well luckily I still had 6 table runners pieced that just needed quilting and binding. Four of them got quilted yesterday and put #5 on the frame for today along with getting these bound today.  And will deliver them on thursday to start the second weekend of 3 for this show.

I took a few days last week to start working on more 18" doll clothes, this was one of 7 outfits I did.

Our guild had Ami Simms for our speaker last night, what a hoot! She showed and told us so many funny things we laughed most of the hour-if you ever get the chance to listen to her do it!  I have had her twisted sister template for years and love using it. I think it was one of the first ever templates I bought a long time ago.

Linking to a few of parties on my side bar -off to check out some eye candy to go with my coffee this morning!  Hope everyone has a good week and makes an easy transition into the new fall time :-)
