One Monthly goal is finished

I decided to get right on it and finish my OMG way early this month.   A year or so ago I saw this tutorial on Tall Prairie Grass blog and thought it was pretty fun looking. And since we all know I seem to generate a lot of scraps/strings it was perfect to try out.  So I started by figuring out how wide I wanted my strips to be, I picked an odd number of 7 inches-don't ask me why, I have no idea!!  Maybe it just happened to be the width of the first scrap I picked up, who knows!  But I can tell you I thought this was so fun to work on and pick all the bright colors during a Minnesota winter.  At first I was planning on a white sashing until I spied this aqua jelly roll sitting in my sewing room with no purpose. Bingo the perfect addition to the brights.

You do need to be a bit careful as there are lots of bias edges as you put the chevrons together.

The inspiration for the setting is from the book Smash Your Precut Stash.  And would ya just look at that, I have no more snow on my deck, I can take pictures outside again!!!

I didn't have quite enough backing fabric so I decided to take time to piece a couple more chevron rows, I love it!  With all the color and business going on I opted for a simple meander on this one. The binding is all from leftover bindings from several quilts. I felt like I busted a lot of strings in this one.

It sure was handy to have my little iron and ironing table right beside my sewing machine and scraps basket.

And because it looks cute all rolled up. Reminds me of  Easter Eggs :-)

  1. Woot! Woot! for early OMG finishes, and for naked decks!! LOL. Love this, but I have a mad mad love for all things aqua this year. I am being pulled HARD to making another string quilt, even brought all my strips with me...have an idea, and now I see this, and I saw a triangles strip quilt yesterday...yikes. Yours is truly beautiful.

  3. Great turn out. Love the vibrant colors. I think the snow is over, I think.
I'm so glad to have seen the sun for a few days. Now we have a week of rain forecasted. But it's not snow.

  4. Sorry, I forgot to mention your backing. I always put a strip off centered down the back of mind, but love the effect of the horizontal strip. It really gives it action with the chevrons. Would never thought of it. I spent so much time just trying to get it right, I have got to get more creative.

  15. Great early OMG finish. Love the aqua sashing. I tend to think white when trying to decide on choice of colour but safe is not always best. Love the backing fabric and the added chevron strips.

  18. This looks fantastic. I've used aqua for sashing myself before, it's a great back drop for the bright colours.
