Southwest placemats

Happy Friday my friends. I have something new to show! I made a couple placemats with southwest fabric because I couldn't stand putting dishes right on the new table, LOL. Oh the joys of being a quilter and able to whip up something when needed.

I
It's very rare that I used my domestic sewing machine to quilt anything, even small things. However that is what I had available to me, I used the walking foot on my Janome Skyline 7 and it did a fantastic job and pretty quickly too.  First I followed lines in the fabric design vertically and horizontal. After that was done I discovered I wanted more quilting so I went in between those lines.

Hobbs 80/20 batting is what I used to sandwich the southwest fabric and orange backing.

Someday I will make 2 more so when we have company over we have a matched set. And just perhaps there will be a small runner for the middle of the table;)

And so I am prepared for Slow Stitching Sunday, I have still been working on knitting slippers. Three more pair have crossed the finish line for a total of six pair in the last 45 days. This weekend I hope to finish another orange pair.

  4. Great placemats! I'm with you--I rarely use my regular machine for quilting, but I can do it when necessary. Cute slippers, just like my grandma used to make for all of us grandchildren.

  7. I have some of that fabric! We tend to get so complicated with our sewing--of course a placemat can be made from one lively print -- as your project shows so nicely.

  9. Well, aren't those pretty?! Perfect for your table and your surroundings. During the years that my mom had the place in Mesa, we really got into southwestern colors and designs, and I am still drawn to them. You definitely need a matching tablerunner. I think the slippers even go with the color scheme!

  11. Love the fabric. Once upon a time my home was southwest inspired decor, how I loved the colors and motifs. Now I am "it's been in the family for ages, years, months" chic. LOL. I am getting ready to pick up the knitting while I read blogs, happy needles!
