Hello September which typically means its fall! So Monday I put up a few of my fall decor items. This is in our entry way where my treadle always resides. I made this pumpkin quilt many years ago, it's still a favorite for September. I believe it is a Thimbleberries pattern. I might add a few more items to this display but I ran out of time. We are getting ready for some Arizona friends to visit today and have dinner with us.
In between cleaning house yesterday I managed to get this one pieced. The four pumpkin/gourd blocks are part of six blocks on a panel I purchased long ago. After getting it I was not inspired to make something with it and it sat in time out at the bottom of a show box of panels. From time to time I pulled them out and looked at them and didn't like them.
A couple weeks ago I pulled it out, again, determined to do something with it. I cut them apart and threw them on the design wall, picked a few fabrics that would go with that coloring of plum, orange and a funky green. And then they hung out there until yesterday. I sashed and border them with a plum batik and an outer border of orange batik. Boom done! Well it needs quilting yet. But the funny thing is I kinda like it now, hahaha.
LOVE pumpkin quilts! It decorates that area so lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is fall weather around here! In our house fall doesn't start until the autumn equinox since that's my DH's birthday. Cute pumpkin quilts, Vicki!!! Nice to have friends over.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty display! The runner looks amazing, especially with the pop of plum - nice job and glad you didn't give up on it!. How did the dinner go?
ReplyDeleteVicki, I made this pumpkin quilt as well...years ago...even hand quilted...that was my strength before the accident in 2009. I love fall season also! my favorite. Your pineapple doily brings back many memories of my years in B.C. in the 80's. A friend there crocheted many doilys with the thread. I can crochet well but was never able to hang on to that thin thread.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how we like something, buy it, then get completely uninspired by it after we get it home? I'm so glad you decided to make something with your panel--it's lovely! You found the perfect fabrics to compliment it and let it shine. Wednesday, September 2nd

The Thimbleberries quilt is an oldy but goody!! I have a fall Thimbleberries quilt somewhere that I haven't hung up in a few years. I loved their designs and fabrics. The gourds runner turned out great. Such deep rich colors in those batiks, and that is what the gourds needed.
ReplyDeleteI would say fall doesn't really reach us until the end of September but I sure am looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteYour pumpkin wall-hanging is gorgeous, Vicki! Love it with the cute display on the treadle. Looks like those pumpkin and gourd panel pieces are going to turn into something cute, too! Hope you had fun with your Arizona friends!
ReplyDeleteYour entry way is beautiful and so inviting , Vicki. Gorgeous quilt and my eye spotted some little fall stitches which brought a smile to my day. The plum batik is really pretty with your new runner. I hope you had a lovely visit with your friends. Hugs.
