Wonky log cabin blocks

I started working on these blocks back in January...

They are wonky log cabin blocks with my bright scraps. The idea came from the Quilting Modern book.  I now have 12 blocks done that will finish at 12" each, I have a setting in mind and need a few more blocks to do it.

Don't cha just love my little iron!!  A friend had one at a sewing day, I was really impressed at how hot it got and it steams!!  It's perfect for setting beside my sewing machine for pressing small things and for taking with me to sewing days. I ordered mine through Home Depot since I have a store close to me and it was free shipping to the store.  Here is a different view of it, oh it fits in the palm of your hand just to give you an idea of it's size.

I also want to share with you my new little traveling ironing board-it's a TV tray I purchased at Walmart.  It was a wood top, so I covered it with aluminum foil to protect it from moisture. Then layered with Warm and Natural cotton batting, and the silver fabric for covering ironing boards with. The hubbs stapled it to the back for me.  I also love just having it sit right beside the sewing machine for ironing small projects.

  7. So cute! I have an iron like that, but it doesn't get very hot at all... I bought mine for the same reason (a friend had one)...

  9. Okay THOSE are two gotta have tools! I just bought a new iron (my old one is oh, 15+ years, maybe more, wait, it is nearly 20! egad this is 2015) from JCP, (free delivery to the store too, love that) but I am going to check out this little sweetheart now. Great idea just great for the small ironing board! I have a ceiling tile I covered, actually two we made into a "book" with a cutting mat on the inside, yada yada) that I keep next to my machine with my Clover "curling" iron for when I'm pp or doing tiny patchwork, but I really do like this idea. Still have to jump into some improv piecing...I like precision not gonna lie...but I love your so-happy wonky log cabin.

  10. Thanks for visiting my blog. Yes! Great minds think alike. Not only did we get the same little iron, but those quilt blocks from Dad's clothes that I mentioned are the "Wonky Log Cabin!" I like the idea of the portable ironing board. Thanks for the directions.
