The piecing of this quilt began in January 2014. I had been collecting black and whites here and there-you know how the story goes I am sure, LOL Then we had a shop hop and if we went to all the stores on the hop, I think there were 13 at that time, we recieved a wonderful bundle of-you guessed it-black and white fabrics! There were 13 half yard cuts!! So of course now I have way more black and whites than was needed for this quilt alone. So stay tuned as I have 2 more that just need quilting, they might be on my ALYOF list year too :-)
It is such a joy to be able to take pic's outside again without freezing in the process!! This week 60's and 70's!
I had been thinking I would use the aqua for the binding. But then I happened to pick up this polka dot and when auditioning the two, the aqua made the quilt look pale. I am very pleased with the polka dot.
The only place you can really see the quilting is on the back. The quilt is so busy I just went with a dk. gray Glide thread and used a panto called Fantasia. I think I would be blind now if I had chosen to free motion quilt it, trying to see the path you already quilted would be very difficult!
I have no plans for this quilt but I like it anyway. But if anyone wants to buy it I would surely consider it!!
You can click on the pic's if you want to see a larger image of it.

Lovely quilt! I tend to like darker binding. Lighter ones seem to wash out the quilt. I have tried to FMQ and have lost my way so I totally understand why you picked a panto!
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS! love the pop of color.
ReplyDeleteOoh! Black white and aqua look so good together! This is a really cute quilt! Nice work! :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the b&w with the aqua, never would have thought to do that!! That black polka dot binding really contains everything and draws you back in. Great finish!
ReplyDeleteVicki, your quilt is lovely. I really like the aqua - it gives it a nice lighter look. The polka dot binding is perfect.
ReplyDeleteWow. I really like the bit of aqua among all the black and white. Great quilt.
ReplyDeleteNeat color combo happening here! You don't see this too often, but it's really a good one. All black and white is hard to do well, and your aqua is icing on the cake. : )

I like Julie's "icing on the cake" phrase, as that is EXACTLY what the aqua makes me think of. Yay for you for meeting your goal...mine is not yet met...better get at 'er!
ReplyDeleteThis is fun. I think you can combine almost any colour with black and white and the result will be stunning, but your cool aqua gives it a sophisticated air.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt! The panto was a good idea and I like the dark binding.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful color combo & quilting !

ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous! Love the hit of aqua among the black and white - just the right amount of punch!
ReplyDeleteGreat colours, great choice of binding, congratulations on a lovely finish.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your finish for this month! I love the black & white prints with the pop of teal. Got me thinking about a b&w quilt... oh no! I fear another WIP to be included in the ALYOF programme!
