Yes I am 'dreaming' of summer already. This is my
DrEAMi for February. I am so over winter, LOL we've had more cold snaps than usual. We did get a little more snow yesterday, not as much as originally forecast. Not that I have anywhere that I have to go but still. It'll be good for sledding and perhaps the Grandsons will come over and enjoy it with us.
Anyway, here is what I was making while doing my dreaming. A watermelon table runner.
Once again I turned to EQ8, I really am loving it now and find myself using it more than I did 7. Things seem easier to find in 8. After designing and piecing the center section, I made a trip to the store to see what I could find for the border. I think this red check is perfect for it.
A green fabric, cut on the bias and run through a tape maker, is what I used for the rind. In the process of pressing it into the right curve, I discovered if you spritz the fabric before curving it works much better. The reds are all strips from my
scrap/string bin. This is the second time I used bias tape in an applique process...March 1st you will see my first project with it! Yep doing that a little backward. But the first project is my Island Batik March challenge, and it isn't quite finished yet, not to mention it's not March yet!
Now I step back into Spring with another bunny runner. The hubster says this one is his favorite so far.
Actually it was 2 bunny runners as I also had an order for this one, at 65" long. You can see how much longer it is in the middle. He is hopping his way to her as we speak.
Funny how snow and winter are exciting at first—and then they lose their luster. A watermelon table runner is the perfect way to dream of warmer days to come. I haven’t tried making bias tape, but that looks like a great idea for neat applique.
ReplyDeleteYour watermelon runner is so fun! I love that the red part is made with strings! Cute border fabric, too.
ReplyDeletePull your head out of the clouds! We definitely need spring first! Summer is way too hot where I live and I really want to enjoy spring first. Your table runners are so adorable. I bet it feels good to make those since you make them so much quicker than a quilt.
ReplyDeleteSpring and summer? Yes please, I’ve had enough of winter, bring it on! Lovely colours in the watermelon runner and who could resist the bunnies? So cute, especially the second one, love the borders. Adorable.
ReplyDeleteLove the watermelon runner. We are enjoying (NOT) a humid 84 degree day here. Would love some cooler weather. I guess we always want what we can't have...maybe not always but certainly sometimes.
ReplyDeleteLove the rabbit table runner, can you please tell me the designers name so I can order the pattern?
ReplyDeleteThose should do well in your etsy shop. They are all really cute! Thanks for inspiring us at Oh Scrap!
ReplyDeleteI love that purple bunny runner too. Great job on the watermelon runner. I can see it being popular in your Etsy shop as well.
ReplyDeleteYour runner definitely says "summer".
ReplyDeleteThose bunnies are so cute.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Vicki!
ReplyDeleteOh, I really like the watermelon runner. It looks so summery and fun. I agree with your choice on the red checked fabric - it reminds me of a table cloth. Definitely says summer! And your bunnies are just so cute. You can almost see them twitching their nose! ~smile~ Roseanne
Love your runners...great for spring.
ReplyDeleteLove the two runners -- the bunnies are so cute! I still think you need a couple of ants on that watermelon runner! Hahaha. Well done, Vicki. You have been working so hard on all of these runners, and doing a great job!
ReplyDeleteGreat runners! Love how you're thinking summer.
ReplyDeleteWinter can be done anytime as far as I'm concerned! I love your watermelon runner! Great idea on the bias tape too. I'm glad to hear you like EQ8 better than 7, I'm hoping to upgrade very soon. As soon as I consolidate my desktop and laptop files! I know it's still February...but Easter will be here before we know it! You always have great themed runners!
ReplyDeleteMmmmm, watermelon! Now I want a big, fresh, crisp fruit salad :) Clever to use bias tape for the rind, and the red gingham is the perfect border. Super cute runners, as always, Vicki!
ReplyDeleteIt's that time of winter when you get close to losing hope. Dreary, long, and dark. Your watermelons brought a smile thinking it certainly will be here, and maybe I should start some seeds soon, too! I also snapped up your tip on spritzing before using the bias tape maker. I have a new set I am eager to try, and am grateful for any tricks. Thank you for helping clear my winter clouds!
