Scrappy butterflies

Another neglected project from 'the closet' is moving along a little bit.  I saw this EPP butterfly on pinterest, well let's say a while back;). I made 2 of them and then stuck filed them away in 'the closet'.   Recently I needed a road trip project and I thought of them.  So I finished up 2 more of them and working on another.

My question to you is what should I make out of them?  Setting suggestions?  I just started them because they were cute and a way to use some 30's repro scraps!

I'll share a little of our MN spring with you.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you!  Hope your day is wonderful.

  1. Make a table runner, of course!

  2. I'm (slowly) working on a quilt with Grandmother's flower garden flowers that these butterflies would work well with. I saved the idea. Now to find some smaller hexie's.

  4. Those are really cute! I can definitely see you appliqueing them onto a table runner. Maybe two facing one way and two facing another?

  5. Either a table runner or wall hanging! They are so cute and I know you'll come up with a setting that will knock our socks off! They couldn't be any more spring-ish with that fabric!!

  6. I think I would make some improvised appliqué flowers and then appliqué the butterflies among them. If you are very patient you could also make hexagon flowers. Whatever you chose to do with them will be beautiful, because they are lovely just as they are!

  8. These butterflies are adorable! I think they'd make very cute hot pads, or apron appliques, or sweet pillowcases/pillows, or any size quilt from wall to bed. Lovely!

  9. These are adorable. I'm glad they fluttered their way out of the closet. I think they would make and cute baby quilt, even if you just appliqued them on.

  10. Those butterfly's look like an adorable wall hanging or table runner to me. :) You could even make a large flower (Dresden style, maybe?) to put with them. Lots of possibilities!

  11. I have to agree with the others, the butterflies could be a really cute runner. I could see using them for a cute mini to hang in your entryway too (or on your door). They would be very cute on a baby quilt, too. You could use them on a little table topper as well. So many possibilities, I'm sure you'll come up with something amazing!

  12. If you are up for some applique you could make some hexie flowers and applique them both onto a background. They are cute.

  13. I like Wendy's idea of using them on a baby quilt. Maybe some simple patchwork with a vertical column of cream. Applique the butterflies onto the cream like they are flying up and away! Swirly FMQ to show the flight patterns, plus darker stitching for antennae. That's how I see it my head, anyway :)

  14. Howdy Vicki! I am looking forward to reading the responses to this request. I have a baggie of hexies that may just be from the 60s. Not really but certainly the 80s and 90s. I don't know what I had planned to make with them but they were made from fabrics of those decades. I really am looking to see which direction you go with these! ~smile~ Roseanne

  15. They're adorable, Vicki! Very different from the usual hexie business. The obvious answer is to put them on a table runner or two.
