A Pressing Matter and Fabric Acquisition

Last Friday the hubby and I went up to the Twin Cities so I could do some shopping. Our JoAnns is in the moving sale stage and so there aren't having the sales according to the ads. And there was some stuff on sale that I needed wanted, so we went there right after lunch. Plus SR Harris fabric outlet is always a draw for me;)  Here is what followed me home.  Pretty yellows for my sunflower runners, more of my favorite reds and the green for more shamrock runners(I did run out of that one). And the rest because I thought my supply of those specifics were low. This was the acquisition part of the trip.

The pressing matter was picking up this Kallax unit from IKEA.  Currently I have other brands of cubes for my cutting station and another for my Accuquilt station and I love them. This Kallax is going to be the base of my new pressing station:)  Years ago hubby made me a big board to put over my ironing board and it has served me very well. But I want/need more storage and so I got to looking on Pinterest and saw people using these cubes under their big boards. I am so excited and can't wait to get this all fixed.  We bought some dollies with casters from Harbor Freight and are going to mount them to the cube. Then I can roll it around as it will have to sit in front of my counters and I have stuff under the counters I need to get at from time to time.

And to keep you up to date on my actually quilting, two more shamrock runners were made this week.

  1. the cube set up looks good and to attach an ironing board to the top sounds great. I have odd size cubes and now as the baskets wear out I can't find any cubes or baskets to fit in them for my fabric. The fabric boxes that came with them were very flimsy. I hate to take the time to make new ones but all of the sizes are too big to fit in the cubbies. I think eventually I will get a whole new system for the scraps because of it

  2. Oh such pretty fabrics! I am sure you will love your cubby/ironing station. If only I had space for something like that! I have to work with the small space I have though. Looking forward to seeing it all put together with the cubbies filled.

  3. That's a pretty pile of fabric! Love your idea for a combined storage and pressing station. I could use something like that, too. I'm still using the old fashioned ironing board that I got 40 years ago, lol! Hope you'll show us how the top for ironing goes together - I'd like to see how you guys make that!

  6. Gosh I'm glad I read your post - love your ideas! I've been thinking how nice it would be to replace my current fabric storage (a repurposed hutch) with shelves, and this would be such a great solution. Love the ironing table plan too. Oh and I love your runners!

  7. Hi Vicki! Oh, we really need some extra storage and those storage cubes look so handy. That looks like a handy acquisition as does the fabric. Now you're stocked up for plenty of projects. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  9. I love my Kallax shelves ironing station! I remodeled my studio during the supply shortages a couple years ago, so mine is 6 cubbies with a 2-cubby butted up next to it. But it works just great. Congrats!

  10. Great idea for the big board. I've always wanted one, but currently still have no place to put one. I hope I remember this when the time comes that I DO have the space! Your fabrics look like lots of table runners to come.

  11. Lots of pretty fabrics to keep you busy! I have that same kallax that I'd like to put on wheels. I have the old sets that Ikea used to sell but I need a third one because this is so wide. Would you include pictures of the dollies that you bought when you show us your finished project? I'd like to explore that option! Thanks Vicki!

  12. Oh yay! New pets followed you home and they are lovely! The Kallax shelves look so sturdy and will make a great ironing/storage station with your big board on top. I just love do-it-yourself for WAY less cost projects!! And I love the shamrock table runners. Thanks for linking up with Monday Musings, Vicki! Have a great week!

  14. You will love that setup for the iron. I love the board/shelf unit I have...always had stuff on the floor under the ironing board, so institutionalizing it made sense. I love your fabric choices, and of course your runner is just perfect. Time to get my shamrocks out!

  16. I like your storage unit. It was look great filled with pretty fabric and other quilt-y goodies! SR Harris is one of my favorite stops. So much to choose from. Last time I was there was on a girls' weekend trip to a play. We enjoyed the play but also did some power shopping, which included a stop at SR Harris.

  18. Nice new fabrics added to the collection. Hubby built me a big board base a while ago. I love it although the storage part of it is a mess and needs to be cleaned out a bit. But it works for me. And, wheels will work really well on it. When I had a hardwood floor I would pull it out but on carpet, not much moving going on. Off to iron my stash enhancement.
