Sunflower and Holly

Often when I make something with a seasonal fabric, I might as well pick the next season and make one for that also while the pattern is fresh in my mind.  First up is a pretty sunflower fabric with a  coordinating gold and green.

The quilting on the star portion of this table topper was all ruler work with one start and one stop on my longarm.  Next came the smallish stipple in the neutral background and straight lines in the outer border.

And the backing.

Picking out the Christmas fabrics was easy, I started with the holly fabric and added a green and red. This was the first time to use the white with green, red and silver polka dot fabric. I think it came out great.

The quilting is the same as the sunflower one. This is a pattern by Anka's Treasure called Rising Star, in her Angles with Ease book.

Found a piece just large enough in the stash for the backing.

The cross stitch project has moved along also. Linking up with Slow Sunday Stitching.

Our wild black raspberry season has come to the end, but I sure loved being able to fill 7 sandwich size zip baggies and put in the freezer. But first I made a batch of 24 muffins, yummy!

This year I decided to try planting cucumber seeds in a flower pot of the deck. The three plants are growing really well. I took this a week ago and it has really vined out even more since. And I have several baby cuc's on it, four of them are almost 4" long!  I can hardly wait to eat them:)

It's Friday so you know I'll be linking up with other creators at Off The Wall, TGIFF, Finished or Not Friday and Freemotion Mavericks.

  1. Great idea to make a season and then the next while it's fresh in your mind. Nicely done!

  2. Your table toppers are beautiful! That's a good idea to do 2 at a time. Where do you pick your wild blackberries? We used to have them at the edge of the forest when we lived in south Texas, but the last time we picked there were snakes sunning on rocks, so we stopped - lol! Your cucumber plant is beautiful! Did you use "regular" potting soil, or did you scoop it from your garden?

  5. Really sharp looking runners! Love the fabric choices. Those blackberries look delicious. I do miss having fresh cucumbers and tomatoes from the garden, but don't miss the work they required. I have a brown thumb. LOL

  7. I think you have more wild blackberries then I have gotten off my two bushes in the garden - I have 2 full quart bags of them. I kept putting them in a bags to see how much my bushes yielded this year - and it turns out the same as last year - I thought as the bushes got older maybe I would get more and it didn't happen. I wanted to save them so I would have enough to make one or two desserts.

  8. Ooh, I like those tabletoppers, especially the sunflower one! I'm about to break out some sunflower fabric, too. Your Hello, Summer looks great! I just got to the watermelon last night - it's so cute! Yummy black raspberries and a fun way to grow your cucumbers, too. I've had a few of mine to eat already - time to make a dish of refrigerator dill pickles!

  11. Love those toppers! We have wild black raspberries in our yard that have been there for 35 years and they haven't produced much, or the squirrels, rabbits, deer etc eat them. This year, with all the rain we have gotten the most ever! I'm freezing them for eventual jam.
