Strings and things

I am back to my quilting studio as of yesterday. This is what I worked on a bit before we left for the week. Colorful string blocks sewn to phone book pages(I saved the books for years, we had a land line until last year). I don't have to but I am planning on sashing these with white and a colorful or possibly black cornerstone so I don't have to deal with all those seams coming together.

Here are a few scenes from our boondocking/atving trip. This was our view from the camper in one direction.

We have visited this arch in past years and is a favorite spot of ours.

Parts of the desert was alive with blooms making it so pretty and the aroma wasn't bad either!! See my hand in there for perspective.

Another of the events we went to see were the powered para gliders. Late one afternoon we counted at least 30 units in the sky at one time. These gliders treated us to a little formation which was fun to see.  A few times last week the gliders came over our camping area and waved to us.

Fields of purple flowers treated us along the highway too.

Now comes the cleanup work of laundry and cleaning the fifth wheel. Hope you all have had a great week. I will catch up reading blogs this week.

  1. What a fun side trip!! I couldn't live in a desert - too brown. But it sure is interesting to visit, especially when it has things blooming. Those string blocks are just a delight in all those colors. Great job!!

  2. So gorgeous in its barren-ness. Beauty always finds a way to make its presence known. I like the idea of cornerstones, I always obsess on seams nesting or avoiding each other. LOL

  5. Oh those are pretty strings! Yes sashing is a great idea, those seams are not fun to join. My strings bins is bulging, I need to make some.
There is such beauty in the desert, and I love the starkness of it, especially with mountains and canyons. Glad you are enjoying it. We still talk of moving to Arizona, but so far from our family, just can't quite make ourselves get serious about it. It is so beautiful!

  8. I love your desert views! And the flowers in bloom, too - so pretty. The gliders are an interesting sight - we've seen people doing that over the ocean in several places. Those string blocks are going to make a beautiful quilt! We just got rid of our landlines a few months ago - I suppose that means no more phone books.

  12. The desert in bloom is always wonderful. But the sand gets everywhere. Happy to see you had a nice trip. (and I see the answer to my question about paper backing.)
