These pieces have been languishing in my stash for a few years-yes you read that right!
They are cut off pieces from when I made this Quick Curve quilt for a discount fabric store a few years back.
Seriously, would you have thrown them away or kept them with good intentions like me? I just thought there was too much fabric there to throw them out! So into a zip lock bag they went and waited and waited for inspiration to hit me. They came out to play on Sunday, and here is what they asked me to make!!
First, the colored ones asked to paired with a black section, ok done, easy enough. Then they said "I want to be a flower". I felt they needed to be on a Kona silver(which I also had in my stash). So I cut a piece large enough for the background and took it to my longarm and used my channel locks to create a double line grid. I have not done the double lines before so it was fun trying something new.
It was time to start appliquing them down yesterday. I used a small satin stitch in magenta, turquoise, and yellow to go around each petal. I did not use a fusible web as I had starched the petals good before. I did, however, use Elmers glue on the edges and adhered them to the Kona silver with the iron. Not totally fray proof, but, it works pretty good.
Binding it with just the silver wouldn't have done the job, it needed a pop of color. So Suzy's magic bindng to the rescue with black as the accent. But oh no, that wasn't enough color yet! The turquoise, yellow, and magenta screamed, me too, me too!! So what's a girl to do, but add them in little spurts here and there.
And wouldn't cha know, I just happened to have the perfect backing in the stash too, LOL
And one last shot. I am just so pleased with how this 28 x 32 wall hanging came out. There will be other projects some day as there are tons more left. If you have thoughts of what I should do with them, please let me know! For lack of a better name I think it will be called Simply Petals.
And because I think we all need a bit of spring...
