Piecing projects from retreat weekend

These are the projects I worked on while at a quilt retreat last weekend. I arrived there at 11a.m. on Friday with these all cut out and ready to sew. Pedal to the metal until noon on Sunday. I almost stayed over another day due to winter weather conditions. I did not get the borders on these while at retreat but finished them all up yesterday at home. Retreat is always a fun time with good friends!
This is a large lap quilt from a 5 yard bundle of Civil War from Bolines. I added a skinny beige trim border before the final one to give it a little pop, glad I did as it made all the difference for me. Now to decide how I want to quilt it, I already have 2 quilts with Baptist Fan so I want something different-anyone have any ideas??

For these 3 table toppers I used Cheryl Phillips Gem Jr. ruler, fun and quick to do and pretty accurate too! I will show them again after I get them quilted.

After I got all the above ones pieced (except for the borders) I worked on this quilt I started 4 years ago at a class from Pat Speth called Star and Crown. It is proving to be a lot of work-not a quick quilt by any means! A lot of sewing, trimming, and cutting and sewing back together in a different configuration. I had about 12 stars sewn from the class but am working on the other blocks little by little. I have a goal of finishing this quilt this year(along with a couple others than have been in the works for a long time-I just need to get them out of my closet!

  1. I like the nice sharp points in your table toppers. I may have to add another ruler to my wish list! I do love the way your Star and Crown is turning out too.

  2. I love the light stop border on the first quilt, and those table toppers are amazing. Have fun finishing the old UFOs.

  5. Looks like you had your hands full at that retreat! Love those stars and glad to see you are working at finishing that quilt. I agree.... that skinny beige strip before the final border on that lap quilt sure works for me, too! Looking forward to seeing what you decide to do with the quilting. The only suggestion I can come up with that is simple and fast, is using your walking foot and an extended zig zag. Crazy Mom Quilts shared this on her site and called it "Honeycomb Quilting".

  9. You were quite busy! I love retreats; getting away from everyday life for a bit and being able to just sew. Very pretty table toppers. I also like the definition added by that little pop of beige.
