Crossed Canoe

This quilt was started in December last year, you can see the beginning post of it HERE. It is still in the WIP category in my opinion. Especially since it was still sitting out on my counter waiting for me to get back to it. When do you consider something as a WIP vs. a UFO?  For me if it goes into the closet it becomes a UFO.

Back to the quilt, Saturday afternoon I had free sewing time so I decided this quilt needed some attention. I finished up the last 5 blocks that were needed. Remember I was running low on the background fabric and couldn't get anymore. So in order to make this a decent size quilt I am going to add purple sashings around each block. Then a 2" purple border before adding a piano key border of all the prints. However I need more of the purple and I am pretty sure I got it at Hobby Lobby and they are closed until Monday.

A little better lighting after I got started on the outside border on Sunday. I will wait to do more after I make sure I can get more of the purple! I am only a few inches short I think but don't want to start and then find out I can't get more. The blocks are made using the  crossed canoe Accuquilt die.

  1. I guess if a quilt sits with no progress what so ever on it for more than 3 years it is a UFO, I have several. I do have a lot of works in progress mainly those started last year with the rainbow scrap challenge and I am working on them

  2. Oh yes - the piano keys make a great border on this. Hope you find more of the purple because it is just the right color.

  4. The purple sashing and piano key border are so fun, Vicki! I love these blocks - glad you're working on them again. I decided not to worry about WIP vs UFO - just work on what interests us at the time and eventually things get finished! :)

  6. Eh, I don't care whether something is a UFO or WIP. I generally think anything that crosses the 12/31 date unfinished is a UFO. Heck, stuff I start and let sit for a month is probably a UFO to me. Need I say I have a lot of them? Love your Crossed Canoes. Take the quilt with you when you go shopping as you should be able to find a purple that will work even if it isn't the first one. My Go cutter has been lonely recently. I've been working on mostly UFOs or continuing projects. Must pick something to cut out and do it on the Go. Have a great week.

  7. Pretty quilt Vicki, and yes, the sashing and piano border are perfect! Hope you get more fabric. When does a project become a UFO? To me, if not finished by 12/31, it has a UFO status on 01/01! :)

  10. Hi Vicki! Interesting question about WIP vs. UFO. For me, if it's still on my to-do, then it's a WIP. We don't have too many UFOs hanging around thankfully. I like this block but have never made it. I can't wait to see this project all finished! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  11. Good luck with the fabric shopping, Vicki! Regarding your question... I'm either actively working on a project or it's a UFO. There's very little that falls between the two. I'm terrible at long-term projects! They always tend to fall off my radar and land themselves on the UFO List. Happy quilting!

  13. In my sewing room, I don't categorize to the nth degree, it is disheartening! I do have some very elderly PIBs (Projects in Boxes), lol
Keep going, it is looking beautiful!
