Another UFO worked on and finished! This was a fun project that started a long time ago, we are talking years and I have no idea exactly, but more than four I am sure. One and a half inch strips and the little braid template from Kate Colleran was used for this project.
One length of braid was made and then all set aside until this past weekend. Why do we do this to ourselves, all sorts of reasons I guess! I am pretty sure I started it on one of our camping outings and wasn't sure how it would end up.
I had no pattern for it, but I sure love how it came out. An Etsy customer thought so too and she bought it shortly after I listed it! I am thinking I might need to do another.
The front is all Island Batik fabrics while the backing, which I think went perfectly, is a batik from Marshall Dry Goods.
I did a little custom quilting on this one. Stitch in the ditch along each side of the dark teal sashing and then a feather type of quilting in each braid. The light teal borders received ribbon candy quilting. The first time I used Kate's little template was when I did a purse using her pattern and these same fabrics back in 2019. Kate now has a book out on braids

I love batiks and these fabrics made a beautiful runner. I'm not surprised it sold right away.
ReplyDeleteI love how you used the braid strips. Very pretty runner, with an elegant feel to it. I have one braid strip about 20" long, laying in my RSC basket waiting for inspiration on how to use it.
ReplyDeleteSure turned out lovely! I think the demand is out there, so I see a lot of these in your future. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

you can never go wrong with a braided table runner.
ReplyDeleteThat is so pretty, Vicki! I love the combination of colors and the design. No wonder it sold quickly! Good for you for digging that out and finishing it!
ReplyDeleteOh that's pretty! I like the batiks, and the braiding is so neat. That looks like a great book.
ReplyDeleteThis is an adorable runner, Vicki. So glad to hear it has found a good home. That is a nifty template that you used. Have a wonderful rest of the week. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!
ReplyDeleteI like the double rows of braids and the fabrics are lovely. I have a tool similar to the one you used and now we have the gocutter chisel die but the template would waste less using jelly roll strips
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty finish AND it found a forever home. . life is GRAND! Sometimes, my projects get set aside because there is a deadline and somehow the set aside project doesn't make it back in the rotation. . .although, I'm trying to catch up. . .LOL--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteI love this! I was thinking about a braid the other day and mocked one up in EQ - much easier than sewing. Were the strips about 6" wide finished?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. That backing fabric is gorgeous and perfect. Thanks for sharing in TGIFF!
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice table runner. I'm not surprised it sold quickly. You do such a great job picking colors.
ReplyDeleteWay to finish and get it on to someone to love and use it!!!
