What's on the design wall

Here is what is on my design wall-at least for a few more days. I had some free time and decided to bring out my featherweight for some mindless sewing.

These began as string strips.

Next I let my 12" Accuquilt cube companion set do the cutting of this shape. After I get a bunch I will add triangles to the two corners. No rhyme or reason as to the strips I use, it's grab and sew.

When I tired of that I finished up this little quilt.  It's about 40" square. I used the kite shape from 12" Accuquilt cube. The blocks were all pieced in December and assembled recently.

I was happy to find just the right size and color fabric for the backing.  This makes donation quilt # three finished for this year.

  8. A grab and sew project is so much fun. Love seeing it come together. The other little quilt is fun, too. Being able to die cut the fabric always brings a smile to my face.

  9. Your string project will be really pretty! Sometimes the mindless sewing of string units is just what we need, and yet they become something unique and beautiful.

  10. Hum, it helps that you have a 12" -- I could do it with the 9" but it would take way more pieces. But both are great ideas! It's good to see you using your cube. I tend to use it a lot and then not at all for a while. I'm kitting up quilt tops for some retreats over the next 6 months. Each retreat is a week and I'll need 4 to 5 projects -- especially if the projects are sewing blocks together.

  11. It's so nice to just sew blocks without thinking about them sometimes, Vicki! Love the second quilt you finished too.
