Setting up a new quilt studio

Setting up the new quilt studio is coming along. I'll share piece by piece as it happens. I ordered a kitchen Island to use as my cutting table because of the storage it provides.  Behind it you see purple insulation boards that will eventually become my big design wall(so excited about that).

One drawer holds rulers and a few Accuquilt dies. Also some appliques for future table runners.

While the other drawer holds thread, sewing machine accessories and rolls of vinyl(for future project bags).

Underneath is room for lots of projects that I will work on over the winter.

The outside has storage too! Plus it has what would be a towel holder. Hmmm...I wonder what a quilter could hang there, hehe. I didn't snap a photo of the other end but it too has a towel holder.

  1. How exciting Vicki to have a new sewing studio! I really need one too, but I make do with what I have. You could hang an appliqué pressing mat over the towel rod or a pressing sheet? Or use small hooks and hook some small tools over the rod?

  2. Oh what a smart idea to buy a kitchen island! That is a pretty one, and the storage is a bonus. Your studio has a great start - looking forward to more "pieces"!

  5. Love your island! I’ve seen quilters use S hooks to hang rulers…..maybe that could work on your towel holder?

  7. That makes a perfect cutting station. Love those side areas!! It all looks great and I bet you will love it. I have a kitchen cabinet unit, also with a butcher block top as my cutting station. I had gone into Menards here several years ago looking and got a real bargain because someone had ordered it and measured it all wrong. So I got it all for less than $50. The height is really just perfect for cutting.

  8. Hi Vicki! This is SO fun, watching what you select for your new studio. What a handy island this piece is!! Perfect size for a cutting table with the bonus of oodles of storage. LOVE it. Merry Christmas, friend. It's almost here. ~smile~ Roseanne

  10. Ooh I like what you are doing here. I'm thinking a small quilt hanging where the towel holder is would be great. If you can take the dowels out it might be a good place to slide products on a tube -- maybe Wonder Under or equivalent but on a paper towel tube. Or anything you might use a lot of that can be rolled up. Have fun playing with your new space.

  12. That is the perfect piece of furniture for a quilt studio! Is this in the additional building you guys put on your property there? (I'm sure it has a name, but I don't remember what you called it! A "casita" maybe?!) Looks like there a good amount of space for the cutting board on top, too.

  13. And island is the perfect cutting station. I got two IKEA cube units and put them back to back. One side I left as the cube; the other I bought the drawers and cupboard doors add-ons, and put the whole thing on castors. I totally get your excitement about your design wall - could not live without mine! Is this in the northern or southern abode? ;-)
