Little by little I will be working on Christmas in between getting things ready for the fall shopping season. Today I have what I finished on Friday. A gingham and tree table topper inspired by a Primrose Cottage pattern.
I know most of you have seen me making this style for a while now. But I did use a different fabric for the medium color in this one which is the one with little candy canes. I found a piece big enough for the center of this topper while doing some organization of fabrics.
And the backing is from a bolt of red and white that I bought from Marshall Dry goods. I need to take time to do some piecing of leftovers/scraps for some future backings too.
Not sure that much sewing will get done this week. I'll be in that room but not sewing! Hubby and I are doing a big project, it almost got the best of me yesterday!!
BTW I hope you all got to enjoy the fireworks on Saturday night. We did not. We went into town to watch, sat for 1.5 hours and they sent up 5 minutes worth of fireworks and then it stopped. We, along with lots of other people, waited for 20 minutes or so and then someone in the crowd got a message that they were canceling for the night as there was a T storm rolling in. We did see lightning in the distance and wondered if they were going to hurry up. Everyone ran to their cars and then it just poured down. Sunday night we went back to our spot to view as they always did a rain date in the past so we assumed it was on for Sunday night. NOPE we got there and no one else was around. Got online and found it was canceled for this year!! What no fireworks for the 250th, we were so disappointed. They said they had technical difficulty Sat. night so they were canceled. BUMMER!
That gingham look is awesome for Christmas! Very cute. You have me intrigued about your big project. Hmmm . . .
ReplyDeletetoo bad about the fireworks - I heard a lot of places had to cancel of either too much heat or too much rain and lightening. we enjoyed the people across the roads fireworks from our porch.

ReplyDeleteYou are getting ahead of the game with this cute topper. Most July 4th festivities were canceled here due to the heat. The heat index was 110 or higher on Friday and Saturday. That's hot!
ReplyDeleteThat is a bummer that they did not at least reschedule the fireworks. We got rain too, but thankfully, they pressed on hour later after the storms rolled out. Your gingham Christmas quilt is as cute as a button, Vicki. Hugs.

ReplyDeleteThe candy canes with green stars is an adorable print, and works great for the gingham look! I, too, am interested to see what the big project is. Remodeling? That is too bad about your fireworks - so disappointing. We did get to see fireworks - both put on by the city and by the neighbors!

ReplyDeleteWell, our town didn't even have fireworks this year (what?!?) Sorry that you were so disappointed. That storm was pretty crazy. Your little topper is a cute one! Curious to see what you two are up to with that project!
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming design! We had late-afternoon rain on the 4th. A friend said they still had the fireworks but I didn't want to sit in the damp to see them.
ReplyDeleteLovely table mat! We went to a friend's house for dinner and hoped to watch fireworks in their neighborhood, but it was all blocked by trees. And the real fireworks rolled in and the party moved inside.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to read it everywhere, too hot, too much rain or thunderstorms…. It is for sure very disapointing because it means a lot this 250 th birthday. We have to make our own „fireworks“ with fantastic sewing… so did you! Love this tabletopper!!! Yes, why not now sewing with christmas fabrics! Than no hektic when it will be December. Greetings eva
ReplyDeleteI love everything quilty gingham! I could see some fireworks from my patio and out my front window--the storm had come through here earlier. But I really enjoyed watching the DC fireworks online!
ReplyDeleteLove that table topper! The gingham is gorgeous! I heard a lot of fireworks go off around us but didn’t see any. Due to the storms a lot of the big displays were delayed 30-60 minutes so kept hearing them till almost 11!
ReplyDeleteI love Christmas in July and that table topper is awesome. Love the gingham look it has. Sorry you were disappointed in your fireworks. Ours went for about 15 minutes. We didn't venture out to see them, but could definitely hear them...and everyone else's afterwards! Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings!

ReplyDeleteNo fun missing out on fireworks. I think a lot of fireworks were canceled this year due to weather. We ended up watching some from Williamsburg. There was an interesting program before hand too. It was put on by some PBS stations.
