Delectable Mountains

Three delectable mountain table runners done. You might recall me piecing them last winter.

The mountains are batiks in all three runners while the neutral backgrounds are quilting cotton. 

The first one has a teal coloring, the second a green/gold coloring. And this last one is gold/orange.

The past several days was all about finishing up WIPs and UFOs. Another finish included two of my turkey table runners. They are identical so only showing one of them.

Two Projects

Sometimes thinking of a title for a post is easy and sometimes not!  Two projects to show you today. First up I finished piecing the last delectable mountain table runner that I had kitted up. 

Then I turned my attention back to the orange pineapple blocks. This is where I left off several weeks ago.

I decided on how many blocks wide and long I wanted it to be. So I set to making them on Sunday.  They look messy here before trimming. This progress shot was taken on Tuesday afternoon.

Here they look much nicer after trimming this round. I am using the Creative Grids pineapple trim tool. You have to trim after each round.

I was buzzing along nicely finishing up these 9 blocks and putting them up on the design wall. And bam, I am one short!!  I miss counted on Sunday:(  No time to make more as we were invited to the neighbors for Margaritas. 

It's been really hot here so we got up early and went on an ATV ride with friends before it got hot. We trailered the ATV's half an hour from home and hit the trail around 7:15 and we were off the trail at noon. We all brought our own lunches and ate in the desert under the shade of a scrub tree. So glad to have gotten out and did something fun. Here is one of the donkeys we saw as he crossed the trail right in front of us and stopped for a photo op! Someone said they spotted two more in the area that we didn't see. Also someone spotted a big horn sheep, we did not:(  A gecko was also spotted by us girls.

Delectable Mountains plus...

 A delectable mountain table runner is a pretty fast gratification to wiggle into the middle of a bigger project. I use Bonnie Hunter's Scrappy Mountain Majesty tutorial for it.

You cut strips and then blocks, sew and cut etc, I had extra blocks so I decided to make a small mat with the leftovers this time. I am pretty sure I have some of the dark fabric left and will hunt it down and add a border to make it a useful size.

Same thing happened with this color batik set.

Here comes the plus part in the title of this post. I finished the sashings of this leaf lap quilt. I will add a gold print border before it gets to my longarm. 

An update on my slipper knitting for this winter season.  This is my evening TV viewing project, they will become donations to those in need. I am using a 4ply red heart yarn with a strand of sport weight. The pattern is a freebie from Fave Crafts.

We were going to be out boondocking for two weeks and with the heat we canceled it for now so there should be lots of sewing time with the AC on!

Vacy fun and more table runners

Let's begin with our little vacay over the weekend. The hubby and I decided on a whim to get away for the weekend and go into Wisconsin and do some ATV trail riding. The weather was perfect for it. We did two trails, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. In a previous year we did part of them. We got to see some leaves showing their beautiful fall colors. Definitely not at their peak yet. 

We were having a great time out on the trail, until we came upon a head on collision of two side by side ATVs. We didn't stick around as there were lots of people in those groups. They were waiting for the ambulance, EMTs, cops, and DNR. Yes there were injuries. I saw one of them holding a towel to their head. Not sure how many people were involved but more than two for sure. It happened on a blind curve but for sure one of them was on the wrong side of the trail.  We continued on our way a little more cautious as there were so many ATVs out there and too many going to fast.  Eventually we came to the end of the trail and turned around to go back to the hotel, The accident scene hadn't been cleared and the injured were still there. Two helicopters were sitting on the highway, they couldn't get close to the scene as it was at least a half mile in on the trail so that an ambulance couldn't get in there either. Two people were air lifted for sure, don't know about the others but it sure was a commotion of professionals doing their jobs. They were not letting any ATV's go through that part of the trail and after a bunch of us were waiting for 30 minutes or so they told us another route we could use to get to where we needed.  I just hope that those people are going to be okay. 

We stopped for lunch at one of the pull outs and as we were eating I looked up and saw Smoky the Bear, LOL.  🠟

I have the Etsy App on my phone so it cha-chings when I have a sale. My phone was pretty busy all weekend! So when we got home Monday I got busy and shipped out several runners. And overnight I had two more to ship!  So you know what I will be doing this week!!  But first here are a couple items I finished before we left town. This Halloween swirl runner was for an order, she had seen the round one in these fabrics and asked if I could make a swirl one in those. 

Another gal might be interested in this snowman wall hanging as she bought two other of my fall ones and said how much she liked this size. I whipped up two identical ones, just in case;) This is one of my patterns which can be found HERE.

And since snowmen and snowflakes go together so well I whipped up this blue delectable mountains with blue and silver snowflake fabric. The white background fabric has sparkles in it making it so elegant. 

I guess I was still in the snowflake mood so I used red with silver snowflakes for the background of this runner from my starburst tutorial. This is one that sold over the weekend. Okay I'll be working away while you are reading this as I have several things that need quilting.

 In between working on donation quilts I needed something smaller for quicker finishes. Delectable Mountain table runners to the rescue, three of them in fact!  First up was a teal one as I still had teal fabrics on my mind after making two of the teal braid runners. 

A beautiful green/purple batik was perfect for a fall runner. These measure 15x47.5". The quilting design I chose to do was freehand feather clusters from a Patsy Thompson DVD which I have had for years. It's an easy but so effective design.

I have waited a long time figuring out exactly what to do with this fabric and it was perfect for a backing. Do you buy fabric without knowing what pattern you will use it with? I do sometimes;)

And this green batik will be great as a year round runner, or spring when all things start growing again, and even for a fall runner. It's very versatile with more bang for your buck! I used the same background fabric for these last two.

Delectable Teal Mountains

Welcome to May!!!

Making these Delectable Mountains is fun! I like using Bonnie Hunter's method in her Scrappy Mountain Majesty. I did increase my subcuts from 8.5" to 8.75" square, just gives me a bit more room for trimming and makes it easier. 

The teal is a batik while the neutral is quilting cotton. I used a light teal Glide thread to quilt it on my Nolting FunQuilter with a freehand feather design. Hobbs 80/20 is my go to batting. 

The teal was also used to bind it.  The backing is a perfect complimentary batik.

I went to lunch with a long time friend today and then we went to two Amish greenhouses. I picked up some really pretty posies! 

This peach begonia in amongst the gorgeous greens was to pretty to leave behind. They had other colors of dahlias in other baskets but they just were not as pretty.

Delectable Mountains

These three Delectable Mountain table runners were done using Bonnie Hunters method.  So much fun I couldn't stop after the first one!  Although her method is used for making a quilt I decided to try it as a runner.  She uses a light and dark square cut on the diagonal and sew for an HST, then re-cut into strips, rearrange and sew together. The green one on the left is made using all batiks.   The aqua one is batik with a regular white tone on tone cotton fabric.

And the closeup of the freehand quilting designs I used. 

 I just love this feather design from a Patsy Thompson DVD. 

Yes this is the same block but turned differently giving it a bit of Southwest flare.  Now I am wondering what it would look like in a smaller block size and then add a border.  Perhaps there are more runners in my future;)  I have added these to my Etsy shop. 

I hope your Memorial Day weekend was a good one.  We went camping, biking and kayaking.  We went to the same place as last year.  And we saw the same Eagles with a new Eaglet in the nest.

We were graced with seeing Eagles in different places all three of the days we were there. 

It was warm in the low 90's but it didn't keep us from being outside and it cooled enough at night to have a campfire!  Campfires are really hard to photograph:(
