Catching up

 Do you ever make something and then forget to post it? Seems I have, LOL.  Well it wasn't that long ago but other items made their way here first.  If you are a follower you have seen me make these first two before so mainly I am posting them for my own knowledge in the future;) 

In smaller wall hangings I sometimes use triangles made from folding a square for the hanging sleeve. That way you only have to hand sew three stitches at the tip of each triangle. 

This is a pattern by Karen Walker of Laugh yourself into stitches.

Next up is this Halloween wall hanging. Who doesn't love gingham pumpkins!

Cute polka dots for the backing. This pattern is a Primrose Cottage design.

And I pulled out the maple leaf quilt I was working on this past winter. All I needed was the border. Well actually two borders. I decided to do a 1.5" black w/orange dots first, the same as in the four patch sashings. And then a wider gold print for the last border. It's already for quilting, maybe this week!

In between projects I decided to try doing leader enders again. It has not worked well for me in the past as I tend to forget to use them as it is so easy to hit the scissors button on my sewing machine! But this time it worked well for several days. These squares have been cut in the last 2-3 years and waiting their turn to be turned into a lap quilt for donation. Some were sewn into pairs already so that helped speed things up a bit. The plan is to do a tan solid rectangle in between the homespun blocks. I added a few more blocks since I snapped this photo.

Maybe I'll be back on Wednesday with another finish of something new;) I have lots I want to get done this week!

More Halloween

I have been enjoying my new space, however I was only in it long enough to get the backing prepared so I could get this one quilted. And then long enough to bind it.

The piecing of this one and it's twin (which I hope I need to quilt at a later date) was pieced last winter.

This is a pattern from Jedi Craft Girl.  I had been saving that backing fabric for a while. It has metallic gray dots and I thought it looked kinda fancy so I was waiting for something special to make. But the special never showed itself so recently I said I am just gonna use it for the back. It goes perfectly as the background of the front is gray and white.

Next up was another black cat Halloween runner, yes the first one sold. And tonight this second one sold too! You guessed it there is another one in my future;) I have more of the cut off parts for the star points left and sewn so the rest of the runner won't take long to piece. 

This one uses white with orange dots for the background fabrics. The star points are different fabrics from the first black cat runner. The pumpkin fabrics are also different.

Halloween #3 and fireworks

These Halloween panels have been so fun to work on. It all starts by cutting out the small panel which is approximately 9" square. Well I make it square by spritzing with water, starch, pulling here and there to square it up while pressing it into submission. I didn't get any progress shots but you will get the idea of how this came together while seeing the quilting at the same time.  

The panel had the little teeny black and white checked sashing along with the orange around it, so that is where it all begins.

The row of mummies at the top and bottom were on the selvedge sides of the panel of six blocks. I utilized them by adding them too.  

From there a coping strip of black sets it off before I added the purple pieced checkerboard outer border. 

I found a couple of cute buttons to add more character to this 17"x23" wall hanging.

Onto the last leg of our summer vacay-the fireworks.  Back to Oshkosh, WI for the Pyrotechnic Guild International(PGI) week long fireworks event.  We enjoyed lots of fireworks, there were 2 nights where the public can attend in addition to the PGI members.  The above video gives you an idea of what we were treated to.  We are members so we could attend more nights where there was competition and these were awesome. Also Junior PGI members made them and showed us a wonderful display one night. Of course the hubster attended classes and seminars and he made a rocket and then got to fire it off, it was very neat to watch it go off.

When he had some free time we went out for a relaxing kayak ride on a lake. Just look how smooth it looked. We packed our picnic lunch at at on the water. 

We spotted this cool little lighthouse at a park, so we had to investigate, it didn't look like it was in service anymore.

In case you were wondering what I was doing while hubby was attending classes etc.  I spent some enjoyable time at the sewing machine in the fifth wheel.  I had the back patio opened up and all of a sudden a lady from across the way came walking up and we started talking quilting, yes she was a quilter spending the summer in WI from Florida.

On our last day we had nothing planned in the afternoon so I got to go to Primitive Gatherings quilt shop! OMG, OMG, what a treat. This store is huge and packed with fabric, patterns both quilt ones and wool related. Samples of everything all over the place.  It was warm outside so hubby came in, even he was impressed!  If you get the chance to visit in the area of Larsen, WI you should go to it!

All in all this summer was unusual for us. Out of 6 weeks we were only home for 4 days!  It was fun but we are also glad to be home and returned to a normal schedule. I can hardly believe it is September already!!  And guess what...I am returning to WI twice this month, LOL.  This Wednesday I leave for 3 days to go see a friend and we will then go to Madison to the quilt show. I haven't been to it since before Covid so I am anxious to immerse myself and hope for lots of inspiration.  And of course spending time with a friend is a benefit!

Halloween #2 and more vacay photos

Let's start with the quilting since this is mainly a quilting blog. However this was pieced while on vacay:) It's definitely time to get Halloween items listed in my Etsy shop so I am on a roll.  The center of this is one of six panels on this piece of fabric. Each piece is approximately 9" square and is from Henry Glass. 

I was so focused on this wall hanging that I forgot to take in progress shots. But when you look at the photos you can see I left the original orange fabric around the panel.  The little green faux piping is where I started doing my own thing with the borders. Including another faux piping border in black and white stripes before the final ghost fabric border.

And before long Halloween #2 was all done and it waited to be quilted when I got home.  

Lots of stitch in the ditch (SID) occurred and then some fun U turn quilting in the polka dot white triangles. Cross hatching on the diagonal on the panel square itself. Piano key spaced at 1.5" on the outer border.

Before long it was all quilted, bound, and listed in my shop.  And onto Halloween #3, I'll save that for another post;)

So this leg of the vacay was all about the ATV trails in the Lakewood, WI area. We had a week there. Here is a sampling of one of the trails we took. This one had very sandy trails and hubby was having lots of fun driving on this one. Lots of curves too!  Along this trail we started seeing wild black berries. But most of them were green yet.

But on the next trail in a different county they were ripe!!  We might have eaten a few and we might have brought home a few for the freezer. 

You never know what the trails are going to be like until you are on them. A few bridges to cross on this one. I have to say the weather sure cooperated with us and we were surprised that there were not many bugs.

Two week To Do Tuesday

I took last Tuesday off from writing up a goal post.  Things are getting really busy in the shop now with Fall and Halloween on the horizon.  Sometimes I never know what I should make until I wake up the next day:)  Halloween wall hangings have been really popular, they all sold out over the weekend and that is including what I have done over the past 2 weeks!  

Isn't this a fun one with it's pointy border. I made those using my Accuquilt 8" companion cube. 

I was in need of getting a couple of my Pumpkin Harvest wall hangings made and listed. Yep did that and they are gone already too! I couldn't be more thrilled!!  If you want to make one I have a pattern in my Etsy pattern shop-Patterns by Vicki.  So quick and easy to make.

I had a few of these pumpkin table runners pieced so I grabbed one of them last week and quilted it up. 

I decided to try out the 15 degree wedge ruler I bought at the estate sale a couple weeks ago. And I used fabric I bought there also. This is just like the 10 degree round wedge toppers I usually make.  But with the 15 degree you can see a bit more of the pattern in the fabric.

Some of the same fabrics went into this one which I used the 10 degree ruler on. 

In the evenings I have done a bit more on the Autumn cross stitch SAL with Melisa.

One more thing I did during the past two weeks was to write up another pattern to release in early October, so be on the watch for that!!  

This week I know some things I should get done...

1. I made another Halloween flimsy yesterday so it needs quilting ASAP.

2. Quilt another fall pumpkin embroidered wall hanging ASAP.

3. Quilt another turkey table runner.

4. Make more Pumpkin Harvest wall hangings.(my pattern)

5. Make sunflower wall hanging. (my pattern)

6. Work on whatever else I can squeeze in!

Halloween panels are hot!

I have been amazed at how many Halloween wall hangings I sell using a panel to make them.  I sold Witchy Boo and Happy Jack soon after I listed them.  So Thursday and Friday I made Jack-O-Lanterns and Ghostie too. I listed him Friday evening and Saturday morning he sold!  So guess what that means...oh shoot I will have to make their cousins next😏

So here is how I started this one, after squaring up the little panels I added the solid black to set it off and then the checkerboard border of a light and dark print.

Some fabric auditioning started to see how the rest comes together. Sometimes I like the first fabric pulls and sometimes not so much.  In the end I didn't use the green one. 

 

Of course some pinwheels had to show up.  Okay now it's starting to look like something. 

That orange and black stripe just had to be a part of this, at first I thought it would be the binding. Auditioning fabrics for those borders was harder than normal this time, I couldn't quite put my finger on what was wrong until I mocked it up with the polka dot cornerstones.  Bam that was the ticket and the stripe became a small border. The binding is the same as the last border black with orange stars.

I was pleased to use up some scraps of orange polka dots and the light checkerboard fabric.  in this little 23"x 24" wall hanging.  Okay on to the next one!

Happy Jack

Doesn't this little Jack-O-Lantern look so happy and excited for Halloween. Another part of a sweet Halloween panel makes his debut as a fun wall hanging. This was the same panel Witchy Boo was on. 

Once I got Jack all squared up he asked for a small green sashing all around him to make him think he was still in the pumpkin patch.  After that a thin black sashing before he got the addition of a checkerboard border in orange and white polka dot fabrics. 

Of course pretty green and orange pinwheels to symbolize green leaves and Jack's friends still in the garden. 

By now Jack was resigned to be just that a Jack-O-Lantern and not just a pumpkin anymore. So he let me spruce him up with the cutest candy corn outer border.  I found the candy corn fabric in Walmart in a precut 1 yard package, I couldn't resist! 

Happy Friday, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  I hope to be getting some quilting done so I have some finished to show next week.  

We had the Grandsons yesterday, we took them to the local park/zoo to see the new wolf pups, and the rest of the animals.  Mother nature thought we needed some watering as it rained. Hubby ran to the SUV to get our rain gear and we toughed it out till it really poured down. We quickly ran to the building for cover and to wait it out. After seeing the rest of the animals we went to the picnic shelter and had lunch. The boys were so funny as they told us the night before we had to have a picnic basket and a checkered red and white table cloth in order to have a picnic.  I quickly produced both and they were delighted!!  Kids can be so funny:)

Our wild plums, oh so yummy.  I found this tree with much bigger ones than most of ours. We will just gobble them right up. We thought about trying to make jam but think it is more work than we want.

Witchy Boo

 Isn't this just a darling witch, she is part of a series of Halloween motifs on a pre-printed panel. I am using just her in this fun Halloween wall hanging. 

After trimming her up I added a finished 1" striped green border around her. 

All witches need some pumpkins don't cha think.  These pumpkins were made using a companion set for my Accuquilt 8" cube.  The bow tie die was perfect for them and then I just rotary cut a stem.

I just happened to have some great coordinating fabric in my stash for the borders. The 2.5" triangle die, also from the 8" cube, worked perfectly for a green and orange border. 

Some fun quilting might have also been added;) 

And just what you have been waiting for...the finished wall hanging! This was a very fun make.  I have really been on a panel roll lately haven't I.  I hope there is time in the near future for a few more.  As always thank you for taking time to check out my blog and big thanks for leaving a comment!
