Getting ready and a finish

Off and on all week I have been cutting and kitting up projects to take to retreat. I leave on Monday for five days. This retreat is the same one I went to last year in Wisconsin. Here is my stack of what I have ready so far. Several table runners in various stages and one donation quilt. I hope to cut another donation quilt and also throw in a jelly roll and background fabric in case I get through all the other items.

In between prepping for retreat I whipped up two of these table toppers using the maple leaf Accuquilt die.

Proof that I really did make two, these are the two backings. They finished at 23" square.

Within 15 minutes of listing the first one it sold!  So I quilted up the second one and got it listed this morning.

Hope you all have a great weekend. I think mine will be busy!

Some of This and Some of That and some more goals

It's been a busy week. I have done some of this and some of that and some finishes along the way.  Some goals met and some pushed aside for another time.

The goals for the week were:

1. Sunflower table runner- 👎 This is one that got pushed aside.

2. Fall S swirl runner- 👍 Yes this one made it from start to finish!

Most of these fabrics were used in a previous version of this.  The one different fabric this time is the gold in the checkerboard, the last one I used orange.

3. Fall panel wall hanging- 👎 From this point I went off the rails and did goal #4.

4. Whatever else comes along- 👍 Oh yes I met this goal with a few projects!!  I paper pieced a bunch of leaves for a few of these leaf runners and was able to get one all finished.  Notice the white pumpkin...I painted it this week. It's a paper mache' one.

Also in the whatever comes along category is this Halloween table runner.  I made a few of these last year so I thought I better get another one in the mix for this season. Gotta love a gingham pumpkin!

The block pumpkin star block is a block pattern from Primrose Cottage on Etsy.

On Sunday I was looking for a diversion from the sewing room so I made a pumpkin bundt cake. I used a recipe I found online that looked delicious.  I think it could have used a bit more spice but it was still good with a brown sugar frosting.  Whenever September rolls around I just get so in the mood for pumpkin desserts, does that happen to you?

Goals for this week:

1. Finish up a few Pumpkin Harvest wall hangings.

2. I have two friends coming over on Tuesday to see if they need to purchase more of my table runners:)  These two were customers first several years ago and are now dear sweet friends. Last night one of them texted to see if she could bring someone else with too. Well yes the more the merrier!

3. Write up at least one post on some more projects.  I thought they deserved their own posts.

4. Another turkey table runner needs quilting, sold one over the weekend.

5. Whatever else needs doing- I love this goal best, LOL

Since there was some of this and some of that I am linking up with Joy for This and That Monday.  And for To Do Tuesday at Texas Quilt Gal.  Thank you ladies for hosting!

To Do Tuesday #32

How did we all do on our goals for the week?  If you head over to HomeSewnByUs blog you can check in on every one.

I felt like I didn't do a lot but was always working away.  How does that happen, perhaps it is because I didn't finish a lot or maybe I should just say not as much as I would have liked.  I did finish my two table runners for orders so that feels good.  Another gal saw the 17" square leaf table runner that I did earlier this month and she wanted one 23" square.  It wasn't any problem to do by adding the pretty fall colored squares around the edge.  I really think some day I need to make myself one of these!

The second table runner I just finished yesterday.  It's from my Snow Dudes pattern.

On Sunday I posted about the fun I had piecing a Halloween wall hanging for myself.

There was one more finish that I want to share with you in it's own post.  It's a cutie!  Let's say Thursday I will tell you about it. Now that's just a tease isn't it!

This next week, well I want to quilt two Valentine table runners, and make another long fall leaves runner.  And I am going to a fabric estate sale on Saturday where fabric is $2 a yard!  Oh boy, oh boy, how much will I purchase, I shouldn't get any but you know I will!!!  And then I hear there is another fabric sale just down the block, I haven't heard what their prices will be but I'll check it out.

To Do Tuesday #8

Hello my quilting buddies.  How are we all doing this week? Were you productive and get lots done?
I think I amazed myself with how much I really accomplished this week. It was more than I listed to do this week.

Here is what I set forth as my week's goal:

1. Finish the last border for the leaf table runners. DONE  I am happy to report that the strips were pieced, cut and sewn onto the 5 leaf table runners.

2. Start sewing the wedges for my Gobble It Up turkey table runners. DONE  Actually the wedges are sewn, turned, pressed and then turned into the turkey feathers.  Not only was that done, but they are also placed onto the background fabric and the borders all sew on six of these table runners!!  I was on a roll this week.

At the same time my Sister-in-law wanted to make one so we had a sewing day, here she is pinning her runner flimsy to the batting and backing.  We had a great time visiting and sewing.  You have to understand she isn't a quilter, but she does a lot of sewing of useful things like bags for their lawn chairs to carry on their ATV, and she makes all kinds of pouches and other accessories for their ATV.  She has sewn wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses. So I was able to teach her a few quilting tricks along the way, I think she is doing a fabulous job on her Turkey table runner.

3. My third goal was to get a tutorial written for the Accuquilt blog, DONE.  But I can't show you it just yet.  So happy to have this done and submitted. I am not sure when they are going to post it, but think within the next 2-3 weeks.  I'll let you know here on my blog when it is available.  It will be using one of the newer dies called Morning Star.

For this week I want to work on:

1.  Snowmen table runners.

2.  The red/gray string blocks.

3.  If time allows start sewing the red wedges for poinsettia table runners.

A finish for July OMG

I am thrilled to say I finished my July goal today!  What was it you ask?  HERE is the original post.  Next you ask what is OMG, this would be a monthly goal we set and publicly announce at Elm Street Quilts blog at the beginning of the month.

My goal was to make these...

into these this month...

Last week DH and I took a little vacation at a lake up north of us 3 hours.  We were looking for peace and quiet along with biking, kayaking, fishing.  Well mother nature had other plans for us.  It was so hot and so humid, mix in the bugs and some rain.  The only place that felt good was on the water in our kayaks when it wasn't raining. The bugs didn't bother us out there.  Isn't this so serene and peaceful looking.   The bikes never got ridden.

We tried fishing but they were not biting very good.  However we each caught a little guy, not a keeper, that had to go back to the water. But isn't he pretty!

After getting home is when I tackled my OMG leaf table runners.  Luckily I had all the strips sewn for the borders so that went really quick.  I love being able to whip up three projects so fast, feels like a great accomplishment.

One more wildlife photo for you.  Today this little guy hung around a lot.  First he was laying out in front of the house by the drive way.  Then he/she and mommy was grazing in the back yard.  Next thing I look out and here he is all by himself right next to our pond right off the deck!  What a cutie.  And then tonight right after dinner he was peeking over the side of the deck!  I wonder if mommy knew what he was up to all day long!!

Hope you are all having a good week. Mine started off productive and I hope it continues.  The heat and humidity has broken and it feels great to open windows again!  But I hear a little more humid tomorrow.

Pattern Release-Falling For You

Falling For You is my newest pattern release on Craftsy.  I loved how this design worked up and blog friend Wendy offered to test it for me should I decide to write it up.  Decision made:)  I wrote it up last week, she tested it over the weekend.  And it is now in my Craftsy shop.

Here are my 2 versions, both in Batiks.  But you could use any fabrics of course.  I really want to make one with regular cotton quilting fabric soon.

So many of us like the fall season for various reasons, cooler weather, kids are going back to school. Or we love the sight of leaves falling to the ground in gorgeous oranges, golds and browns.  These can be made in so many color schemes, in batiks or not.   This is a quick easy pattern to whip up if you need something ready for fall which is only a month away!!  It measures 16" x 43".

Use up some scraps for your leaves!  My leaves are raw edge appliqued on after all the quilting is done. However you decide to applique it you will enjoy having this on your table for the entire fall season!

And here is Wendy's version-thanks,Wendy, for testing.  It came out fabulous!!  Love that main fabric choice.
