Weekly Goals

Goals for the week of May 3-10 were:

  • Pick 2 UFO's to move forward✅
  • From start to finish- 2 table runners ✅
  • Continue to work on counted cross stitch Summer House ✅
  • Anything else I want to✅
Yes I succeeded in moving 2 UFO's forward, in fact one of them is done.  Here is how I left it several years ago, I was not inspired to finish it and stuck it in the back of the closet and furthest down on the UFO pile.

When I pulled it out at the beginning of last week I felt the same way about it.  Finally I decided it was the red plaid homespun that I didn't like.  So I ripped it off and studied the colors in it before going to my stash and found the perfect coral fabric for it. I  love how it came together now.  What a difference wouldn't you say?  I still need to add some buttons for the flower centers.

Onto the next goal-another UFO.  Well technically this might be a WIP since I did just finish up the hand embroidered center block recently.  But I won't argue the point of UFO vs. WIP, it moved forward and that is what is counting! It started as just the embroidered flower pot block to which I added a dark border before adding the HST's, and pinwheels and framed it all with a couple of borders.  All of the fabrics were scraps from other projects. It needs quilting yet of course.

I finished the cross stitch on the 'Summer' house.

Start to finish on two table runners, well I didn't exactly start either of these this week, they were WIP's from the winter, but hey they are all done now!

This one I did start and finish this week.  These are all hand dyed fabric I bought a few years ago at a quilt show, they were just strips x WOF all different sizes.  I cut all of them to the smallest strip size and cut squares and added in a white batik.  There is a little story with this one.  Recently I made a strawberry table runner and I spritzed it with to much water to remove some purple registration marks for quilting. The red border fabric bled!!  Never had that happen before, so off to the internet to look up Vicki Welsh's magic trick she uses when fabric bleeds.  Here is the link  Save My Bleeding Quilt.  I was amazed, it worked like a charm!!!  So then I got to thinking about this hand dyed fabric and I decided to soak the runner top (before quilting it) and wow it worked fabulously!  Read her tutorial, it uses hot water, Dawn dish soap and time. So worth it!!  The hand dyed's really bled but not a thing bled onto the white batik accent fabric! AMAZING!

I guess this one could fit into the anything else category. Another green gingham one for spring, I sold the other one last year. This one is almost identical, I think one of the three fabrics was new in this one.

So a good week over all.  And now what do I want to do this week, hmmmm let me think.
  • quilt the hand embroidered wall hanging
  • quilt a Valentine table runner
  • work on a watermelon table runner
  • start working on a tutorial for Accuquilt
  • that's enough, I want time built in to maybe play a bit with whatever I want😄

Looking for something

Have you ever been looking, and looking, and looking yet again for something in your sewing room...Silly question of course you have!!  I knew I had some petal shaped paper pieces as I made one flower about a year ago and then set them aside as I got busy with other things. You guessed it, I couldn't find them now that I want to continue the project.

I've been looking high and low all over my sewing room, every nook and cranny yielded only the finished flower.  So with another attempt Thursday evening I dug into Fibber McGees closet.  It was a big job going through every project box, bin, tub, bag.  Still, going through found many flimsy's  waiting to be quilted. OMG I was almost literally sick with how much I have crammed laid in there!

Saturday morning I was motivated to get one of those UFO's out of the closet and onto the frame and got it quilted and bound!!!  So something good did come out of the digging in that closet.  This quilt will be one for H2H going on over at Sarah's blog.   The pattern is Preppy by Andy for the Five Fat Quarter Fun free patterns found HERE.

When we were on our big road trip in January and February, I started this the third night.  Three days later I discovered I hadn't cut all the blue sashings, so I could only get this far since I didn't bring the extra fabric with.  Darn, here is the beginning of another UFO :(   It was such fun working with the brights again after sewing all the snowman runners!

The backing was donated fleece from one friend, another friend had given me thread and still another friend gave me some batting she didn't want anymore.  I have wonderful friends that know I do quite a few quilts for donation, so what they don't want I get:)

I wanted this quilt to be cuddly and not spend a lot of time quilting so I went with a larger meander using a light minty green thread.  At this point done is good and I want to get it out to someone who needs a quilty hug on a bad day. Using fleece as the backing leaves so much texture after quilting.

So what happened with the search for the flower petal paper pieces?  Yes I found them but not in that closet!!!!!!  There was one other stand in the room that I thought I had searched but I decided I better do it again(out of frustration) and I'll be darned if they were not there.  Under some fabric, if you can believe that, LOL

Friday Flimsies and socks

I'm trying to finish up a few UFO's.  Can I really call it a UFO if it is only leftover tumblers from another project, it wasn't started yet!!  At any rate I need to clean up some bits and pieces that have been hanging around way too long.  I only had to cut 4 more tumblers in order to get it this size. All pieced in one day. And before you think I am really nutty that is striped fabric in the border, not pieced:-)  As I was shopping my stash for something for the borders I came across the striped fabric and thought how perfect since it has all the colors as the tumblers. But I didn't want to overpower it, so by cutting 1.5" strips of the stripe and 2" of the orange I think it came together nicely.

A second flimsy finish. Once again all the triangles were leftovers from another project from a few years ago. I did not want to cut anymore of these so I put in white sashings in between each triangle and found the perfect stripe to space the rows out a bit.  Now it is the perfect size for a neonatal donation. Therefore, it won't get borders.

Finally I remembered to get pic's of my first pair of hand knit socks!  I have had them done for a couple months and with the weather getting chillier I will be wearing them more often. They are so comfortable. I used Kroy sock yarn.  I am working on the second sock of the second pair now. Work is slow on them as I only do a few rows each evening while watching TV.

I'll be linking with a few of the wonderful linky parties listed on my left sidebar.

2nd quarter Finish Along goals

This is the first time I have entered items into the FAL   I have lots of projects that need to be finished and this is the push I need to do it! I will pretend to be The little Engine that could-I think I can, I think I can, LOL
Last week I started this nine patch quick curve quilt. I used a bundle of Cotton and Steel FQ's that I won from Gotcha Covered Quilting through A lovely Year of Finishes.

A quick curve runner that needs borders and quilting.

This quilt that has been pieced for over a year that needs it's quilting.

I designed this table topper in EQ, needs quilting and binding.

Quilting needs doing on this donation quilt.

This one I finished piecing in March, it needs quilting and binding.

And last but not least a pillow top.

I do have many more projects that need doing but think I will stop there before I overwhelm myself!!
