Slow Stitching Sunday

So happy to have one sock done! And started the second one.  When I started this pair I knew I had to get creative with my yarns as I wouldn't have enough yarn to make the socks all the same as the top part of it. This will be my Sunday slow stitching, linking up at Kathy's Quilts. On Friday afternoon I got my Covid shot and my flu shot, it didn't bother me near as much as when I did then individually last year. Yesterday hubby and I trimmed our bushes in front of the house and I got groceries, not much happened in the sewing room.

Remember I started with these yarns, I had two of the purple and one of the blue.  They were thinner yarns than I like for socks so I mixed one strand of purple and one of blue, that is the top of the sock down to the foot area.  Then I had to go to two strands of the purple for the rest of the foot/toe.   I am okay with it as that will be in the shoe and besides they will wear just the same!! And I am about using up my sock yarn:)

ACCUQUILT SALES... 11/1/23-11/9/23

A quilt related purchase

While surfing Etsy one day I found these two cute Tshirts!

I purchased them from Julie at KrazeeDesignsForYou. Easy to purchase, great communication too.
She has lots of designs and styles of shirts also.

I will enjoy wearing these when quilting, at retreat or a quilt show.

It's been a busy few days with turkey table runner sales so I quilted up two more on Saturday. One of them got totally finished and relisted. The other needs binding.  Cha-Ching my phone sounds when I make a sale...now this turkey sold too as I was writing this! I will be finishing up the binding on this one today.

With the weather turning cooler, highs in the 40's all week for us, I was in the mood to start a pair of socks.  I am knitting these two colors together.

Here is how it is looking. I am down to the decreases in the gusset.

Sunday we made apple butter for the freezer. Yummy!!

There is still a couple days left of this sale...

Iris quilt and socks

Yesterday our son and DIL were supposed to come down for our little Christmas gathering at our daughters and her family. But the weather up north got nasty this week with 20" snow dumped at our son's place. And then on top of that they lost power from Thursday 3am to Saturday 5pm.  They were lucky enough to borrow a propane heater from someone so they didn't freeze along with water pipes. So they didn't feel comfortable leaving their house. I don't blame them. But we were all disappointed not to have them here.

So with a little free time on my hands I pinned this quilt on the longarm Saturday morning and just finished the quilting this morning.  The pattern is the Iris Quilt by Kitchen Table Quilting. I used a Jelly Roll for it but one could easily use scraps for it.  She does give instructions for a scrappy one as well as different sizes.  I made the lap size.

I also finished the second sock so now I have a pair!  The first sock was done this past spring and then my thumbs started hurting so I stopped doing hand work in the evenings. A couple weeks ago I picked up the knitting again. The thumbs still bother from time to time, but in the evening while watching TV I like to keep my hands busy!  These were made to use up leftovers from two other pairs. One of the leftovers was a variegated blue and one a variegated green and I alternated every 10 rows. I like how they came out.

With this pair done and ready to keep my feet warm I started another pair. Just doing about 10 rows a night.

To Do Tuesday

Another week has rolled around for To Do Tuesday over at Texas Quilt Gal.  Let's check out what I put on my to do list last week and see what I accomplished or not;)

  • Finish a couple of table runners ✅
  • Piece a Patriotic Welcome wall hanging- not done, not even started
  • Sunflower table runner ✅
  • Anything else I want to ✅

This patriotic one was made using Deb Tuckers Rapid Fire Hunter Star ruler.  Easy enough to do but there is a lot of trimming involved. But I like the result.

While the patriotic fabrics were out I decided to do a red, white and blue version from the Anka's Treasure book.  It's like the one I showed on Friday in modern fabrics.

Ya just got to do what you are in the mood to do, you know.  A patriotic version of the S swirl runner.

Up next was to do a sunflower runner. Yes this is a new one just like ones I have done in the past:)

Anything else I wanted to do was filled by the two runners I showed you on Sunday, if you missed those you can see them HERE.  Another thing I finished wasn't on the list...the latest pair of socks.  I started these while in Arizona.

It was a productive week.  Will this one be I don't know, come back next week to check it out.  On the list to do is:
  • Start a new embroidery project
  • Start a new pair of socks
  • Patriotic Welcome wall hanging
  • An applique stars patriotic table runner
I think I will stop there as I just am not feeling productive this morning.  But if time, energy and desire kicks in I will just make whatever I feel like!!

Knitted Socks and crocheted hats

First there was one...

And then they were a pair;)  I used Kroy self striping sock yarn.

I started them last November and finished in February and kept forgetting to post about them.  I am a slow hand knitter as it bothers my wrists, not to mention I have lots of other things I like to do.  You know I think I might just start another pair tonight!  Seems like a good night to do it as we have 7" of new snow.  The snow had all melted and then the Easter bunny thought we needed more and it started in this morning and hasn't quit all day:(  It was also in the 60's this past week, now it's 31 deg.  I want warm weather again!!

The other thing I have been doing off and on the last three months is crocheting these little kiddies hats.  They are so fast, about an hour or so for each one.  The yarn is a worsted weight Red Heart and I think it is an I hook.  There are tons of free patterns on the internet, I might start off with one and then add variations to it. I have a bunch more of these made but only laid out a few.  I'll show the rest another time.  These are great past times in the evening or on car rides.

Report on the second craft show

Today I went to pickup my leftover crafts from the second and last local craft show of the season.  It was a little better than last year and I am happy:)  I did have a few Christmas things leftover so I will get busy and list them in my Etsy shop soon.  The most surprising thing was that a poinsettia runner and a crazy tree runner were left!  All of the snowman runners were gone except for one.  All of my big candy canes were gone.

This snowman runner was in the works yesterday so after getting home this afternoon I finished him up and got him relisted.

My sock is progressing along nicely too.  We had a 6 hour trip last weekend so I knitted while the hubster drove:)

Hmmm, what's next?  This weekend I will begin my Island Batik 'Tool Time' challenge quilt.  Then I have three runners to make for orders sometime in the next three weeks.

Don't forget this is the last week for the Island Batik 'Piece Of' blog hop.  The giveaway rafflecopter is here.

Friday Flimsies and socks

I'm trying to finish up a few UFO's.  Can I really call it a UFO if it is only leftover tumblers from another project, it wasn't started yet!!  At any rate I need to clean up some bits and pieces that have been hanging around way too long.  I only had to cut 4 more tumblers in order to get it this size. All pieced in one day. And before you think I am really nutty that is striped fabric in the border, not pieced:-)  As I was shopping my stash for something for the borders I came across the striped fabric and thought how perfect since it has all the colors as the tumblers. But I didn't want to overpower it, so by cutting 1.5" strips of the stripe and 2" of the orange I think it came together nicely.

A second flimsy finish. Once again all the triangles were leftovers from another project from a few years ago. I did not want to cut anymore of these so I put in white sashings in between each triangle and found the perfect stripe to space the rows out a bit.  Now it is the perfect size for a neonatal donation. Therefore, it won't get borders.

Finally I remembered to get pic's of my first pair of hand knit socks!  I have had them done for a couple months and with the weather getting chillier I will be wearing them more often. They are so comfortable. I used Kroy sock yarn.  I am working on the second sock of the second pair now. Work is slow on them as I only do a few rows each evening while watching TV.

I'll be linking with a few of the wonderful linky parties listed on my left sidebar.

Snowmen time!

Yep it is the time of year I try to kick it into high gear in the snowman making department. Fabric snowmen that is! I purchased a new pattern from Liberty Creek last week and promptly set out to make a dozen of them for an upcoming craft show.  These were pretty quick and easy to whip up. They stand at 13" tall.

It's always fun to come up with different things to accessorize the snowmen with. I had these cute wooden holly leaves in my stash, along with the greenery, berries and pinecones. The little jingle bells even ring!

Now I hope Mother Nature doesn't get any ideas just because I was making snowmen, I certainly am not anywhere near ready for the real ones!!

After I finished these I had the afternoon free so I picked another panel(from the stash) and whipped up some pinwheel borders etc and finished piecing it right when the hubbs got home from work.  This evening I enjoyed some TV time while I knit on my sock.  A good day it was!
