Snowman projects

Last weekend I had a bit of free time so I decided to put the finishing touches on these three little cross stitch pieces. They had been stitched in the last couple years, once the stitching was all done I put them aside. The plan was to make them into little bowl fillers.  

But as you see that plan morphed into something else!  A little garland to hang on my entry way quilt hanger sounded like a better idea as I have lots of snowman items to sit about here and there. 

After trimming to the correct size, I turned the raw edges to the back and hot glued them onto a piece of foam core board. 

Gluing a piece of felt to the back to make it neater, adding a bow and a little piece of trim to the outside edges they were ready to be strung together with jute twine.

Another Snow Dudes table runner was needed.

I used a new to me fabric for this one. With tiny white dots all over it kinda mimics snow.

Winter Cross Stitch Snowman

 Okay fellow bloggers how in the world did it get to be December already!!! Doesn't seem possible does it.  But let the Holiday decorating begin!

As you might remember last Sunday my slow stitching was a little snowman cross stitch design. Well here he is all finished and ready to help with my Christmas decorating. If you are interested in stitching him as well, you can find the free cross stitch chart at Melisa's blog. 

Mr. Winter will join some of the other snowmen I have made over the years. He was so fun and quick to stitch up.  I might just have to go find another stitchery to keep my hands busy at night while watching TV.

This is my favorite decorating corner.  My treadle sewing machine sits in the foyer and I change out the decor for each season/holiday.  Okay peeps I better go do some more decorating, this year I am not going to go as crazy with the decorating. Rather I am going with a less is more theme this year. 

And one table topper done. This is from my pattern called Around and Around.

To Do Tuesday #30

As predicted I didn't get much done.  Hubby had his surgery on Thursday to put a screw in the broken bone in his foot.  So Wednesday was the pre surgery DR appt. and since he can't drive for 6 weeks I will be doing that.  Thursday we were up at 5:30, be at the hospital at 7 for a surgery that doesn't take place til 10:30(but only takes 6 minutes to perform) is crazy in my opinion.  Hurry up and wait is what the whole day amounted to.  I was exhausted after that.  I know hubby was too.  We finally got home at 3pm and we only live 15 minutes away!   So continue to wear the boot and crutches and no weight on the foot for six weeks.

My other accomplishments this week, non quilt related, was to learn how to use the tractor mower and mow some of the lawn.  I will not mow the hills/slopes though.  And then with DH's supervision I managed to unhook the side by side from the camper floor and get it backed out.  It's tight, not much room to spare. And then after that it was backing it into a crowded garage without taking out the garage door or hitting his car!!!  I succeeded!  But the biggie was getting the fifth wheel hooked up and driven out to the dealer for them to fix some factory goof ups. Again I succeeded all with DH's help of course.

So in the quilting arena this week there wasn't much done... Two of these guys, if you look at the border fabrics you will see they are different.











And one poinsettia runner quilted and bound.  I had the flowers all done from last winter.

So this week is going to be all about getting those orders done.  Do you feel fall in the air, we sure have the past few days, it's cooler and you just feel it coming.

To Do Tuesday #24

It's been another good week, one of these times I will surprise you and get nothing done!

Here is what I committed to for the week:
I will continue to work on more table runners, I am thinking snowman and pumpkins ones. DONE✔
There might be a little more embroidery too. DONE✔
And of course I need to finish up my Sunshine blog hop project for Thursday so that is priority.  DONE✔

I stuck to my goals and first I pieced and then quilted and bound these two pumpkin table runners. This is a Bloomin Minds pattern that I added the outer border to as I like a little wider runner. These are approx. 14" wide now.  

And then I had a little squirrel enter my room and whispered in my ear that I should make this runner with a snowman instead of a pumpkin.  Well of course I listened to the squirrel;)  The snowman applique is from an older Bloomin Minds pattern.

One other squirrel that I would like to punch made me do this:(  I broke my favorite 1/4" foot for my Janome Skyline 7.  There might have been a few choice words that escaped my mouth.  After I calmed down I went off to Amazon and ordered another which should arrive on Thursday.  But don't fret I have another machine to use in the meantime.

Then on Friday afternoon I decided to dig into a pile of cutoffs/leftovers from trimming backings.  This is two years worth of cutoffs from making tons of snowman runners. I had no idea at first how many backings I could piece together into a pretty backing with stripes for upcoming snowman runners.  I am amazed but from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning I pieced 16 of them!!!

The last finish of the week was on Sunday afternoon.  I was so anxious to get my redwork snowman all finished into a fun little wall hanging.  I love him!  This was the first time I quilted over any embroidery. Using Glide 40 wt. thread it worked fine to crosshatch right over him.  However I wouldn't mind trying the 60 wt sometime, I didn't have any white to try this time.

 Oh wait I forgot about Saturday afternoon and Monday's projects!  Oh gosh you must all think I am nuts with how much sewing I have been doing. But hey it takes my mind off things;) Piecing of these runners and stenciling the snowflakes. Okay that's it I am done!

But I want to share this pretty peach rose with you. I was able to capture it with fresh raindrops on it.

The goal of quilting and piecing more runners is on the list of things for this week too.  Maybe some more hand embroidery thrown in too.  And I'll have to figure out July's OMG project.

Report on the second craft show

Today I went to pickup my leftover crafts from the second and last local craft show of the season.  It was a little better than last year and I am happy:)  I did have a few Christmas things leftover so I will get busy and list them in my Etsy shop soon.  The most surprising thing was that a poinsettia runner and a crazy tree runner were left!  All of the snowman runners were gone except for one.  All of my big candy canes were gone.

This snowman runner was in the works yesterday so after getting home this afternoon I finished him up and got him relisted.

My sock is progressing along nicely too.  We had a 6 hour trip last weekend so I knitted while the hubster drove:)  

Hmmm, what's next?  This weekend I will begin my Island Batik 'Tool Time' challenge quilt.  Then I have three runners to make for orders sometime in the next three weeks.

May's OMG-One Monthly Goal

Hmmm, it was a hard decision what to pick for my OMG for May.  But in the end I decided to pick 3 identical snowman table runners that need quilting, binding and the last of their applique's added.

These were pieced in February while we were in Arizona camping.  I actually pieced six identical ones, but let's not get crazy thinking I can get them all quilted this month!! There are lots of other projects that I know I will need to get done this month also.

Remember the Starstruck runner tutorial I entered into the tips and tutorial festival at Meadow Mist Designs and Quilting Jetgirl a few weeks ago?  Well I was floored when Cheryl emailed me and told me I was one of the winners!!!!!! 

This was one of the prizes that arrived last week.  Perhaps you recognize the box?  My first ever Quilt Planner!  I had not seen one in person before so I was happy to explore its contents.  I already have a couple days blocked off for a project next year;)   OMG look how cute it is and even matches the flannel I covered my big ironing board with!

So you want to know what the working part of this email subject is.  Well as followers you know that I do several craft shows each fall.  Last weekend was the last of them for the year. It's been fun, but I am glad they are over.  The local shows were all down some this year, however having some winter/Christmas items left wasn't all bad.  I am busy listing some of them on Etsy.  It's working as I have sold some already. I ave a few more to list this weekend.   I am still amazed that my Etsy shop is keeping me hopping and I love it.  At this time I am thinking I will drop one of my local shows next year.

As to what I have been making more of, are my snowman runners-I can't keep these in stock very long.  Pinch me!!

She came, she saw, we talked!

Yesterday was such a fun day.  Blog friend, Wendy who blogs at Pieceful Thoughts, came over to sew/chat/laugh today.  There might have been some chocolate involved too! We have been trying to get together for a couple months now, it was good to finally be able to do that.   

Wendy worked on her projects, while I put binding on 5 runners.  First I finished up more of the pumpkin table runners.   I thought I had the perfect lighting outside when I took these, but I didn't check them on the computer until it was dark out and found out it washed them out a bit.  The backgrounds are a black/grey mixture and looks darker in person than here.  

 If you are a regular follower you have seen me make these before, so this is just to show you I have been busy making more;)

The next to get binding were these snowmen.  They look like one quilt here.

But they are really three table runners.

It's my day!! 12 Days of Christmas in July-pattern release

Welcome to my day on the 12 Days of Christmas in July blog hop  Are you having fun hopping to all the other participants blogs?  There is much to see and this is only the second day of the hop!!  And don't forget Sarah is posting steps for the QAL each day.  This is my second year of participating in the hop, I love doing it!

Meet The Snow Dudes!  I am releasing this brand new pattern in my Craftsy store which you can find HERE. Snowmen are a real love for me, having made many over the years.  They are so fun to decorate with for the Holidays since you can leave them up for a few months as they double as winter decor also!  

Wouldn't you love to have these cuties adorning your table during the Holidays.  It measures 19 1/2" by 41 1/2".  They are easy to make with quilting cottons and felt that you could whip up a few as gifts also.  

This is another one I made last year using a different snowflake.  I love using a medium grey as a background for my snowman projects as it sets off the white snowmen so well.   A wonderful blue or red would work too!

12 Days of Christmas in July Blog Hop

July 14th-July 25th there is a very fun Christmas blog hop happening. When Sarah @ Confessions Of A Fabric Addict asked if anyone would like to participate I jumped at the chance. I love decorating and making things to display for the Holidays!

Today is my day to give you an idea for Christmas, maybe it is a present for yourself or a gift for someone else. But it sure is a happy project, how could you not fall in love with this snowman runner!  It's no secret I love to decorate with snowmen for Christmas, but you can keep him out all winter too, what a versatile project.  And I will have the pattern for sale in my Craftsy shop soon.
It is 18 1/2" x 41 1/2", with a little piecing and a little applique.
