Fast and More Fun blog hop with Villa Rosa Designs

Registration for prizes is now closed

It's here, it's here, the Villa Rosa Designs blog that is.  I am thrilled it is my day to show you what I made for the Fast and More Fun blog hop.  Welcome to my blog, I'm Vicki and I love to quilt.  My first quilt I ever made was when I was 20 and getting my own apartment. Crafting and quilting has been in my blood, handed down from my parents. I have done numerous craft shows over 35 years. In 2017 I started my Etsy shop, which you can find HERE where I sell my table runners and quilts.  Also I have a pattern shop on Etsy, PatternsbyVicki.  Now back to what you are here for...the blog hop!

When I was asked if I would like to participate this year I couldn't answer fast enough, YES, of course!!  First blog hops are so fun, but add in the Villa Rosa Designs that really ramps it up!  Have you ever tried their patterns?  They are printed on Rose cards the size of a post card. And at only $2 each you can try a bunch of them. You can also get them as a .pdf too. These are the five patterns we could choose from for this hop.  You can purchase them HERE if you like or enter into the drawing for a chance to win, info below.

The Clover table runner is the one I chose to whip up.  And when I say whip up I mean it is really a quick make that has a stunning finish.  I didn't have access to my long arm right now so I wasn't able to quilt it up, that will happen next month.  This measures 17"x 56".

As I mentioned this is very quick since there is very little cutting.  While sewing it I used my little clippies to help line up the seams.

These are the fabrics I used. But just think of all the possibilities of seasonal fabrics for this runner!

Or how about using it as a bed runner. You could easily increase it's length by adding another set of blocks.

But wait I have one more project to show you.  I made this quilt a while back and it happens to be one of the five patterns that Villa Rosa picked for us bloggers to make for the hop. So I thought I would include it also. This pattern is Ebb Tide. Another quick and easy make using fat quarters and a background fabric. This one measures 47"x 61".

I had fun custom quilting this one.

Thank you Villa Rosa for great patterns and for asking me to participate!! Thank you to all the sponsors who are donating prizes too!

There are 28 participating bloggers, I hope you will hop over and leave them some comment love on their day.  At each blog you can sign up to be in the drawing for prizes and let me tell you the prizes are amazing and there are a lot of them!!  To enter leave me a comment below and be sure to add your email so we can notify you if you win. If there is no email I won't be able to track you down:)  One of our bloggers says she is getting a lot of anonymous commenters, we can't respond to those so please please leave your email so we can email you if you win!  And we also try to respond to each and every comment, but if you are anonymous we can't!  You don't have to follow my blog but I would love it if you did!! Registration for the prizes closes on Sunday March 24th.

You can find more information about Villa Rosa Designs and the hop on their blog.

Sweet on you

The Sew it-Show it Challenge is hosted by Joan at MooseStash Quilting this month.  And the theme is 'Sweet on You'.  Right away I thought of Valentine's Day so that is what I went with. Plus I needed a little mini Valentine quilt for a little quilt hanger. This style of hanger pinches the quilt in between the boards making it so easy to change out seasonal quilts.

Now aren't these hearts just so sweet;)  This little wall hanging is 14x14 and packed full of Love!  After sandwiching my backing, batting and top I quilted it on my Funquilter in a diagonal cross hatch. Before binding it I appliqued the hearts on with a zig zag. The hearts and letters I made using Accuquilt dies. Three little red prairie points were added to the top before binding also. And topped off with three little white pearl buttons.

The pink little hearts on the background fabric just adds to the sweetness of my project.  We only got to enjoy it for a few days this Valentines season, but it will be all ready and waiting for next year.

I hope you are enjoying the hop and are getting lots of inspiration!

Please check out my fellow bloggers who are participating in this hop today. But you can find the whole list for the week at MooseStashQuilting. Thank you Joan for hosting another fun hop!

Foodie Blog Hop-hot pad tutorial

If you have ever been involved in or taken a hop on any of Carla's blog hops you know how fun and inspirational they are.  I love to join in whenever possible.  For this blog hop we are asked to make something to do with food.  Today I have a tutorial for a hot pad using hexagons.

You will need a hexagon template or make one using an online tutorial-there are several that show you how to make your hexagon.  Each side of mine is 5".   Cut hexagons as follows...

Three from focal fabric, four from coordinating fabric, one from insulbrite, and one from backing(I used the silver ironing board fabric).

Important to layer as follows... one of the coordinating fabric hexagons wrong side up, insulbrite, and backing fabric right side up.  Press each focal fabric and three of the coordinating fabric hexagons in half with wrong sides together.  Now begin adding these half hexies on top of the backing fabric going clockwise. You will be overlapping the hexagons. Do this with four of them.

After you lay the fifth half hexie down you will need to flip up the first half hexie and slide this one under it.  For the sixth half hexie you will need to flip up two previous ones and slip this one under.

Your piece will look like this once you have all six half hexies laid down.

Stitch 3/8" from the edge all the way around.

Now comes the magic;)  You will see a little opening right in the middle of the hexie layers.  poke your fingers in there and grab the backing and turn inside out.

Topstitch about 1/4" from the edge all the way around.  And you have a fun potholder for yourself or a gift. I have seen these around with squares so why not hexies, I am not claiming this as an original design, just sharing the idea.
If you are visiting for the first time, Welcome!!  Please leave your email in your comment so I can respond as I get a lot of no reply blogger comments during the hops and I would love to respond to you!
I hope you enjoyed this little project.  Now won't you check out my fellow bloggers who have created some fun projects for your inspiration.  Here is a list of the others for today.

Go! Getters, Accuquilt Blog Hop

Welcome to day 2 of the Accuquilt Go! Getters blog hop.

Go! Build A Snowman- A kid friendly craft!  You know those times when the kids get restless in the winter time, well show them your Accuquilt Go and bring on the fun of building a snowman or two.

You will need the Accuquilt snowman accessories die, circle dies, 2" alphabet, craft foam, sticky back velcro and a framed canvass.

Maybe you didn't know that you could cut thin craft foam with your cutters!  You bet you can. The kids will love watching the pieces come out in all the shapes.  Use a lot of colors or just a few, that's up to you.  Mix and match the accessories to dress your snowmen.

Don't forget to cut the letters too!

After cutting everything out stick the velcro on the back of the pieces and onto the corresponding spot on the canvass board.

And now it is time to build the snowmen.

You can find a PDF of  GO! Build A Snowman at Accuquilt HERE.  You will find a listing of all the dies used in this project in the PDF.

Here is the schedule for the blog hop, I hope you will visit all of them for lots of great inspiration!

Kitchen Stitchin' blog hop-curves ahead!

Count me in is what I thought when Carla from Creatin' in the Sticks posted that she was hosting a Kitchen stitchin' blog hop. She always has such fun hops and so much inspiration from all the participants.

I have been wanting to try improv curves, my buddy Wendy from Pieceful Thoughts has been on a kick of them lately. She inspired me to give it a try. So glad I did.  Small scale is how I decided to try my hand at it.

Just four little blocks to make a cute table runner for this shelf that sits in my entry way next to the kitchen.

It's been a while since I have taken time to do any custom quilting.  So I thought this was a good time to get back at it.

Making improv curves wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.  Some browsing on the internet lead me to several tutorials on it. So if you are interested I would suggest doing that and picking one that works for you.  I cut my original squares at 9 1/2" because that is one of my square rulers.  Using the stack and whack method to cut them worked for me.

So go ahead and try some improv curves, it's fun!!  I am thinking some placemats would look great made like this.

Please check out fellow participants for more inspiration.

It's Cool To Be Square blog hop

Being a part of a blog hop is always so much fun don't you think?  So when Carol from Just Let Me Quilt announced she was having  "Its Cool To Be Square" blog hop I jumped on the bandwagon.   It kinda happened as I was just starting this quilt back in March.  And it just so happened it involved squares.  So it was meant to be:)

I had purchased a bundle of 10 fat quarters at the Minnesota Quilt show last year.  And it has been staring at me and begging me to use them in a quilt.  I just hadn't figured out just what quilt and then to find a pattern that needed only 10 fat quarters.  As I do from time to time, I went through a box of patterns and found one that would work great if I substituted the light colored fat quarter in that bundle.  Of course that meant going through my bright fun colors of stash to get one that would look like it fit in.  See that pretty teal border print with the purple polka dots, yep that's the one I substituted and then decided to use it for the border and binding also.

The pattern is called Sweet Pea and is from Anka's Treasures.  It is a fast pattern to make up and fun looking at.  While her pattern has you applique flowers onto the quilt I decided I didn't want to do that.  I like the simplicity of the 'cool' squares and it lets the prints shine through.

I quilted the whimsical all over freehand flowers with this teal thread.  It's spring I guess and I am stuck in flower mode.

Then when it came time to quilt it a couple weeks ago, I started panicking because I don't usually have a lot of big yardage pieces for backings on hand.  The one I originally picked wasn't big enough and I didn't have time to do a pieced backing.  So I dug a little deeper and wowzers I came up with the perfect piece, the right size, the right color, bingo!!!

It measures in at 56"x 66".  A great size to cuddle up and read a book or watch TV with.

Thanks Carol for hosting and letting me be part of this blog hop!   Here are the links to the other bloggers participating.
