Christmas in July blog hop

I started following a new blog this year and when Carol asked if anyone wanted to participate in her Christmas in July blog hop I jumped on board!  Christmas decorating comes easy for me...I LOVE snowmen so of course my project is snowmen.

These little guys are scrappy white to cream pineapple blocks made using the Creative Grids pineapple ruler.  So fun to make.  A couple months ago I had one day with nothing on my schedule so I thought I would just make one snowman to see how he went together.  And well he was so stinkin' cute I had to make 4 more!!!  Yes I was able to make them all that day.

After I quilted this wall hanging I added button eyes, and used an elongated triangle fancy stitch on my Janome 7700 for his nose.  The ties on his scarf are appliqued on at this point also.

Here they are hanging out on our red door.

I used a pattern from  Cottage Rose to make this cutie!

I was asked if I would like to be a 'social sewer' for Blank Quilting. My answer-Yes please!  Then would I like a snowman theme or a more traditional theme with nativity scene.  Those of you who follow my blog can guess which one I took right!!!  My answer-Snowmen please!

So Blank Quilting provided me with this bundle of beautiful snowman theme fabrics. OMG I just love them!!!  They are from their A Time To Wonder line by Gina Linn.

 Beautiful blues, beautiful reds, snowmen and snow globes.

 And a fun tree and woodland creatures panel also!

I got right to work trimming the panel.  It had the little snow globes as a top and bottom border.  I cut those apart into little blocks thinking I was going to do something with them in a border for the panel like you see above.  Then I pulled some solids from my stash to sash it with.  Hmmm I just wasn't grabbed by the look of my red and green solid with it.  It sat over night on my design wall and the next day I knew I had to do something different.  Sooooo... 

Into the stash I dug and came up with the perfect solid blue to go with it and I was off and running in a different direction with the border.  Off to EQ8 I went and designed this quilt.  Happy am I that I left the red and green hang on the design wall over night!  I love this final wall hanging.  And the fact that it is all done in time to enjoy it this season. 

Hook swirl on the center panel, then straight lines and swirls in the solid blue. The snowflake fabric received U turn quilting and to finish it off  piano key quilting in the border.

But wait I am not done using the blue fabrics yet.  Remember the snow globe blocks, well I had to use them as they are so darn cute!  So I sashed them in solid white and sat down to make this table runner.  I wanted the snow globes facing out to each side, so no matter which side of the table you sat on you would see them right side up.

I needed a little something to put some cookies in to gift a friend as she had a total knee replacement recently and isn't able to get around and do her baking. So I made this little basket.  Easy peasy to follow using Christina's free pattern. 

 I was running out of time but I really wanted to whip up something with the red snow globe fabric too.  And since I have never made one of the microwave bowl cozies I thought I would quickly make myself one. And a matching hexie hot pad.

Thank you Blank Quilting for asking me to do this and providing me with the cute fabric, it was so much fun to dream up what to make!

All done

I am all done with the little 4 snowman wall hanging.  Listed it in my Etsy shop too.  I think I am going to turn into a snowman one of these days-I can't believe how many of the table runners similar to this guy I have made in the last 2 months.  Good thing I like snowmen;)

 The back, I see I took the picture before I sewed down the sleeves. 

 And then I had some leftover parts and I thought I would make a couple even littler wall hangings.  I gave one to my mail carrier lady.  She has been so good coming up to the house to pick up my Etsy shipments and I wanted to tell her thank you for that.  She was thrilled to bits, it just made my day to put a smile on her face at the end of her day. The other one I will be gifting to a special friend next week.  

And I made progress on my December Island Batik project...blue strips all sewn together.  These blues are so pretty.  I hope to have the whole project done by the end of the weekend.  

So what have you been working on this week.  I did make more snowman runners this week too, but they are the same ones so I won't bore you with them.
