My Friday Finishes

I will show you three of the six finishes this week. Yes I got right busy with quilting 6  baby quilts, some of which I pieced in the last 8 days. On Monday I showed you my 4 triangle blocks. Here it is all finished. The background is navy which is hard to get a good picture of.  The pattern is Triangle Toss and can be found in the May/June 2012 issure of McCalls Quilting. I adapted the size to accommodate my already cut triangles leftover from past projects.
I kept the quilting simple but chose a fun variegated thread from YLI.  This thread was given to me and I have never used it, I love it and it was perfect for this colorful quilt.

This little quilt was started last spring. It uses the Bloc Loc Kite ruler. I chose to use some fun 30's prints. All I had to do last week was add the 2 sets of borders and quilting happened Tuesday and binding yesterday.
An allover fun freehand feather with some pink thread added to the little girliness of this quilt.

These fun pre-printed bear blocks were given to me a while back and got shoved put into my stash to be used later.  This was later, out they came and now what to do with them. I had to add all kinds of stuff to make them into this 36" neonatal quilt. Out came some pink and white scraps to add in squares, pinwheels, sashing and borders. I think it came out so cute! It's so fun to take nothing and make it into something.

Simple allover freehand double loops with pink thread was used for the quilting.

A shot of all the bindings. Turtles for the navy triangle quilt, stripes for the bears and a yellow for the 30's quilt. The batting in all of these are polyester, not that I like working with it. But it is less expensive for donation quilts, and it is also softer for baby quilts. There is a lot of texture with the simpler quilting.

If you have never made a quilt to donate I encourage you to do it! It is rewarding and you get 'warm fuzzy' feelings when you deliver them and they are so appreciative.  And nope the warm fuzzies don't leave lint on your clothes, LOL  Love that one Louise!

Joining in with a few of the linky parties on my left side bar.  Off to check out a few other blogs that also joined in. And then I need to get back to quilting-working on 3 table runner orders.

  4. Oh what great quilt! I love Triangle Toss! I agree about donating quilts. A friend of mine has relatives that lost their homes in the Tennessee fires. I have two quilts on my shelf that will be headed to Tennessee. It makes me feel so "warm and fuzzy" that they will be providing warmth for someone truly in need. Keep up the good work, Vicki!!

  8. These are darling. I love the look of the triangles. I am going to quilt that feather design again soon. It sometimes reminds me of paint splatters.

  9. I love your quilting designs! I'm always looking for some easy to do free-hand all-over designs that are interesting. I love the 'feather' (Is it built like a paisley?) and the double swirls are fresh and fun!

  12. I love the Triangle quilt so much I pinned it to Pinterest so I never forget it! Isn't it fun to use variegated thread?? It takes just the right pattern to support all those thread colors.

All three of these are just lovely baby quilts and they are made even more special because you are donating them. Neonatal units can be so sterile that these sweet, cuddly quilts will surely be a comforting source of warmth. I can imagine a new Mom really appreciating each one!
