My Friday Finishes

I will show you three of the six finishes this week. Yes I got right busy with quilting 6  baby quilts, some of which I pieced in the last 8 days. On Monday I showed you my 4 triangle blocks. Here it is all finished. The background is navy which is hard to get a good picture of.  The pattern is Triangle Toss and can be found in the May/June 2012 issure of McCalls Quilting. I adapted the size to accommodate my already cut triangles leftover from past projects.
I kept the quilting simple but chose a fun variegated thread from YLI.  This thread was given to me and I have never used it, I love it and it was perfect for this colorful quilt.

This little quilt was started last spring. It uses the Bloc Loc Kite ruler. I chose to use some fun 30's prints. All I had to do last week was add the 2 sets of borders and quilting happened Tuesday and binding yesterday.
An allover fun freehand feather with some pink thread added to the little girliness of this quilt.

These fun pre-printed bear blocks were given to me a while back and got shoved put into my stash to be used later.  This was later, out they came and now what to do with them. I had to add all kinds of stuff to make them into this 36" neonatal quilt. Out came some pink and white scraps to add in squares, pinwheels, sashing and borders. I think it came out so cute! It's so fun to take nothing and make it into something.

Simple allover freehand double loops with pink thread was used for the quilting.

A shot of all the bindings. Turtles for the navy triangle quilt, stripes for the bears and a yellow for the 30's quilt. The batting in all of these are polyester, not that I like working with it. But it is less expensive for donation quilts, and it is also softer for baby quilts. There is a lot of texture with the simpler quilting.

If you have never made a quilt to donate I encourage you to do it! It is rewarding and you get 'warm fuzzy' feelings when you deliver them and they are so appreciative.  And nope the warm fuzzies don't leave lint on your clothes, LOL  Love that one Louise!

Getting my wonky on!

Saturday was a sewing day with friends. We started a small quilt group and call ourselves Mod Squad as we were leaning toward the modern quilting. We meet once a month and have a little meeting/show and tell and then open sewing where we work on whatever project we want.

On Friday I cut out several table runners and took 3 along. As I was setting up my sewing machine I realized I had forgotten my bobbin at home. OK no biggee as a friend had one I could borrow. BUT then I realized I had also forgotten my bobbin cover!  I know exactly what happened, Friday night as I was packing up I decided I should oil by machine. I must have gotten interrupted and didn't put them back in the machine before packing it up.  So another gal had wide masking tape and we fashioned a cover out it. While it worked, it wasn't ideal, definitely slowed me down. However, I did manage to get one runner all pieced(no pic of that one) and most of this wonky one done. So this morning I got busy first thing and finished the piecing of it.

You might remember my first wonky runner here. And a shout out for my bloggy friend, Jayne who has a free tutorial here.  I made this one from a fat quarter pack cutting my own 2.5" sqs.  You will see more runners using different patterns with the same fabrics in the coming days.  I am determined to use up some FQ's this year. I need to clean up an over run cabinet!

I love doing the wonky style so much that last month at the Mod Squad meeting I made this 36" sq. neonatal quilt using 5" charms that another bloggy friend sent me. Sandra sent them to us ladies that particpated in the Craftsy blog hop that she and Julie hosted earlier this year . Thank you Sandra, I put them to good use :-)  Jayne also has a tutorial for this one here

And another touch of spring-our apple tree was loaded with blossoms!

And this guy was cruising through our yard this past week. Not an uncommon thing.  There has been a group of about 11 hanging around from time to time.  But this one was all alone this time.

Warm fuzzies!!

I had warm fuzzies all day and night yesterday. I am cleaning up my donation pile of quilts, getting them quilted, bound and out the door. So yesterday since I was running errands I dropped off these 8 quilts for Project Linus. These have all actually been done for a while but I just hadn't taken the time to deliver them.  My wish for them is that they give some boy or girl a warm quilty hug.  I have shown them on the blog before after having bound them so I won't go into individual pictures this time.

This pile of 12 yes TWELVE quilts I showed and then donated last night at our guild meeting. They will go to Neonatal. They are all about 36" square.  I have showed most of them individually as I finished them, but there are a couple that I didn't...

So here they are.  This little pink and brown one resulted in a friend who gave me a bag of scraps and orphan blocks, the center 4 patches and brown with pink sashing were from her, then I dug in my stash for the rest.

I wanted to try out my new ruler from Hex and More ruler so I made this baby quilt.

I pieced this one so long ago I forgot where the charm pack came from or the pattern I used to piece it or if I made it up. I am sure no one else ever has this problem right ;-)  But check out the last green border quilting treatment on the top and bottom of the quilt.  A fun new design I learned from a tutorial from Kim Stotsenberg. You can see it here.

This is from a charm pack I won at our local guild quilt show in October. I won a great door prize with 4 identical charm packs, a GC to Nancy's notions and a table runner book(perfect for me since I love to make table runners). So to show my thanks I thought I would use part of a charm pack to make this and donate it. The tutorial came from Inspiring Creations.  These little quilts are the perfect way to try out a new pattern. You don't always have to make the quilt the same size as the pattern, just make a few and turn them into a little baby quilt!!
So, for me, giving these to people in need give me such warm fuzzies and I hope it gives them just a little comfort to be wrapped in a quilty hug.

Some round wedges are totally done!!

I had some time on Sunday and got these 2 round wedge toppers bound-I still have a few more to do so stay tuned for those, LOL

For this one I chose prints that say Christmas but don't scream it, they are also ones that could be out any time of year if that was your color scheme. They were fun to piece and fun to quilt, lots of ruler work on my Nolting longarm. I love how the quilting almost makes it look like pleats in the round. If you click on the pix you will get a closer look at that.

The center circle is appliqued on using the interfacing sewn to the right side of the green and then clip interfacing and turn it, position it and iron it down. Then I chose a tiny blind hem type of applique stitch from my Janome Horizon 7700 to applique it down.
It measures in at 28" just the right size for my table, but I didn't make it for me! All of the round ones are for sale, as are most of what I make :-)
I was so surprised to see I was featured on Freemotion by the River blog today-great way to start the day!! Thanks Connie!

And a fall wedge topper that measures 36"-it turned out a little bigger than I was hoping but I am sure it will fit someones table!  This was the first one I made and I was trying to scale it down from the original tree skirt size and forgot to take into account that the wedges don't meet right in the middle, LOL Live and learn :-)
The quilting on this was freehand hook swirl, an easy forgiving design that is fun to do and leaves great texture.

This little quilt you might recognize as a free pattern from Connie at Freemotion by the River. Thanks Connie-it was a fun little quilt to make up. This will be donated to our local Neonatal unit.

Done, done, done!

Yeah! I really do have some finishes to show you this week!! These 3 little quilts are approx 36" sq. Just quick, fun little ones to donate to our local Neonatal. I will deliver them in Feb to the gal collecting them through our local guild.  My personal goal is to be able to donate 12 this year, one for each month, so I have a little head start which is a very good thing :-)

I decided to use our grandson's bouncy chair for a prop! And you get to see a little backing of the orange quilt peeking out of the bottom.
The center of this quilt, the letters and red border, is a panel I picked up for 50 cents at store going out of business! It was pretty small so I added the blue checkerboard and yellow borders and had fun quilting it up.

Orange Charmer I'll call this one. Wish I could remember the name of this charm pack, but I think I picked it up at Missouri Quilt Company a couple years ago when a friend and I were on our way back from Machine Quilters in Overland Park, Kansas.

And here is my first chevron quilt, don't cha just love the nice bright colors for a baby!
