My first block for RSC17
I definitely need to work on my string bins and bags. Yes my bin is too full, so I now have 3 bags in addition!! For the first block in purples I decided to tape pages of a small phone book together making a 6" x 15" block and stitching my strings to it. Here are the two I have done now. I don't have a particular setting picked out yet as there are a few different ones I could do. So I may have to backtrack later to make more blocks of each color, I'll just play it by ear for now. I also don't have a lot of purple strings for some reason, and I love purple!

Your purples are so pretty! I like that block shape, too. I bet there are some neat layouts you'll be able to put together.
ReplyDeleteI've used string blocks in many projects over the years, but always a square. I just may have to make some rectangles for variation. Love the purples.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful array of PURPLE scraps!! I did String Blocks in the RSC15 and RSC16. Have FUN with yours!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful purple strings Vicki! I'm like you.....strings are always fun to make!
ReplyDeleteThis looks interesting!
ReplyDeleteI love string blocks! These rectangles are going to make a fun quilt. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
ReplyDeleteI love the string blocks. Will the taped part rip off okay?
ReplyDeleteI have never done string blocks, but yours are definitely looking full of potential. Love the purples!
ReplyDeleteVicki, I have been thinking about doing a string quilt too for the RSC. Kind of getting a late start but this is one technique I haven't tried yet. I was wondering why it is necessary to use paper or muslin to make the string block? Now for the unusual size that you have chosen, it makes sense to me but for just simple squares, why? Just curious.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great way to use up some scraps, and using phone book pages is genius! I'm gonna have to give that a try. :)
ReplyDeletePretty! Did you do any extra marking to keep the strings at the same angle in each block? Looks like they are 45 degrees and not diagonal from corner to corner of the rectangle.
ReplyDeleteI'm playing it by ear with my string blocks, too. I like that you're actually making rectangles. I think that will make for some pretty interesting options!
ReplyDeleteThat is more purple than I have. I'll be watching what you come up with. I am sure that whatever you do it will be beautiful - as usual.
