Super Scrappy for H2H and FAL

When the April color was picked for RSC17, and I learned it was mixed colors, I knew this quilt would be a good one to get finished up and have it serve three purposes this month.  A friend had given me a bag with the print blue squares, with monkeys, polka dots, confetti, and jungle animals all cut. I added yellow to make them into nine patches, red polka dots for sashing and the multi color stripe fabric for a border to pull it all together.

First purpose was for ScrapHappy Saturday for RSC17

Second purpose was for giving it to H2H  that Sarah has going on right now.  This is my second quilt finished for H2H this year.  You can find the first one HERE.

Third purpose was to list it as one of my eleven projects to finish up this quarter for FAL 2017.  Yes I feel good about getting a finish so early in the quarter!  This little 45" square quilt needed it's quilting and binding.  An Easy allover water type design made it quick work.

Red scrappiness

Yesterday I had a small amount of time for sewing, so, I decided to start some churn dash blocks.  I have been wanting to make some for quite a while and why not in red for this months color for RSC17. I have no idea what these will become, but that is beside the point-right?  I am using stash fabric and getting something done, that is good enough for me this week!  These little guys will be 6" finished and oh so cute this size.

This week has been a busy week of cleaning in preparation for the local longarm meeting which I am hosting today. It's a great motivator for getting some deeper cleaning done!  Very appropriate that our meeting falls on Worldwide Quilting Day!  I have also been working on my projects for the Henry Glass Desire to Inspire Challenge which I need done by the end of the month. Hope all of you have had a good week.

And on behalf of my fellow Island Batik Ambassadors I wish you a

I started another

Another RSC17 that is.  I knew I wanted another back in January and I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was going to be. And then two weeks ago I decided. Promptly gettint to work and making the purple for January, to catch up, and also the aqua/mint ones for February.  Then I got sick and wasn't up to taking the pic or blogging about it.  Feeling much better now;)

These are Pat Sloan's Solstice Day into Night block.  I just liked this particular block from the first time I saw a bunch of them floating around cyber space.

Strings are a thing

The RSC17 project that I have started is using from my string bin. I now have January purple blocks and February aqua blocks for the string quilt. I have no plans on the exact size this will be as it will be a donation one so this will fit whomever.

If you have been following me you might remember these are pieced on phone book pages that are 6" wide. I taped two together to make the rectangle which I believe is 15" long. These are so fun to make although it makes a big mess when working with strings, but, digging through and finding fabrics you forgot you have is fun!  Notice the diamond  pattern forming because I made some blocks slant left and some slant right. Because these blocks are so long I won't get all of the RSC colors of the year into one quilt.  All of the colors will get made and then divide between two quilts and I am OK with that.  The name of the game for me is to use many scraps!

Have a great weekend.

Winner announced and my very fun afternoon!

Last night I needed to pick a winner from my Island Batik Ambassador blog hop. The winner of a pattern of her choice from my Craftsy store is Sandra of musingsofamenopausalmelon.blogspot.com. I had my DH pick a number, he picked #49.  I have emailed her, congrats Sandra!  All of us ambassadors had a great hop with many great fabrics to work with, and what super projects we came up with. Sew much fun!!!

I heard from Island Batik that I was accepted as an Ambassador again for 2017, YEAH!!  Can hardly wait until I get the new box of fabrics, it's gonna be another awesome year.

Yesterday I picked up my kindergarten grandson from school at noon as it was only a half day of school.  He was pretty excited to be a 'car rider' for the first time. I planned to have him help me sort my bright string bin. We got started with purple, orange and aqua. By having them sorted I thought I would be able to whip through my RSC17 blocks much quicker.  Like I said we started...and then he wanted to know what I was making, how I made it and how the sewing machine worked, inquisitive mind you know:)  So I showed him one of my long string blocks and showed him how I made it. A couple hours later we had these 6 blocks done.  I thought I would work on all aqua ones since February's color is aqua, but he had other ideas, LOL  He wanted one of every color, who am I to stop him, haha. He loved picking out the next string each time, sitting beside me the whole time and watching and asking questions!  Usually the door on my sewing room is closed when the boys are over-too many sharp objects for little hands you know.  So it mostly a mystery to them as to what is behind that closed door!

Here is our accomplishment... six blocks pieced with phone book pages. I taped two of the smaller pages together to get the long block.  He said to me that he wanted to do this again next time he comes over 😊  These will be my RSC17 blocks.

He also made me a Valentine in school that morning!   My own heart was so happy yesterday:-)

My first block for RSC17

I definitely need to work on my string bins and bags. Yes my bin is too full, so I now have 3 bags in addition!!  For the first block in purples I decided to tape pages of a small phone book together making a 6" x 15" block and stitching my strings to it.  Here are the two I have done now.  I don't have a particular setting picked out yet as there are a few different ones I could do. So I may have to backtrack later to make more blocks of each color, I'll just play it by ear for now. I also don't have a lot of purple strings for some reason, and I love purple!
