If you have been following me you might remember these are pieced on phone book pages that are 6" wide. I taped two together to make the rectangle which I believe is 15" long. These are so fun to make although it makes a big mess when working with strings, but, digging through and finding fabrics you forgot you have is fun! Notice the diamond pattern forming because I made some blocks slant left and some slant right. Because these blocks are so long I won't get all of the RSC colors of the year into one quilt. All of the colors will get made and then divide between two quilts and I am OK with that. The name of the game for me is to use many scraps!
Have a great weekend.
I've done some strings on phone book pages too and they are so much fun to make. Do you plan your strips or just go with whatever comes up when you dig in?
ReplyDeletehow fun! I miss making string quilts..
ReplyDeleteGreat string blocks! I have some somewhere too; I really need to make something of them!
ReplyDeleteString blocks are pretty quilts and great scrap busting.
ReplyDeleteI'm making string blocks too, and it is true about the mess!
ReplyDeleteI loooove your string blocks! I'm making them too (square) but use a muslin foundation, so no ripping or mess. Can't wait to see how these come together!!
ReplyDeleteI like your rectangle strings! They are going to make some interesting shapes when you start putting the quilts together. It will be fun to see what develops!
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm making string blocks, too! I never tire of looking at string block quilts. So much fun and color going on. Wonderful scrap busters, too.

I am leaving my email address because it has been pointed out to me that I am a "no reply" blogger. I am not too good at this blog thing, but I will change that as soon as I figure out how to do it!
Love the strings and really, really like the rectangles!
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of strings, but I sew mine on 6.5x6.5 thin fabric squares. No paper to tear off, just makes for a warmer quilt.
ReplyDeleteI like the purple and Aqua together! I'm doing my strings on pieces of batting that is also scraps. When I get done with all the blocks I will just put them together as a quilt as you go quilt would be done. I have also used the color of the month for the backing on these. It'll be interesting to see how they turn out!
ReplyDeleteYour strings are wonderful! They look like they're going to be a lot of fun to play with, too, when you put together the final layout!
ReplyDeleteI love string blocks! The purple and teal together is a wonderful combo!
ReplyDeleteThese are really neat! I haven't seen rectangle string blocks before. Looking forward to seeing them grow!
ReplyDeleteI love them!! Especially the two colors you have going so far. I've never taped any of my phone pages together, but it's a great idea for another shape. I'm a scrappy quilter through and through.
