Galentine's Day

No that is not a misprint in the title, it is a real holiday! It is the day before Valentine's Day and it is to celebrate your gal pals.

Our challenge this month as an Island Batik Ambassador was to make something to give a gal pal. I had to decide who to make it for, and this past week a friend, who has been a customer of mine also, called to see if I would like some fabric that was leftover from a couple runners I made for her last fall. The fabric is purples and she is not a purple person and wanted to know if I could use it-well yes of course as I love purple!!!  So to say thank you to her I am giving her one of these little Valentine wall hangings I made for Galentine's Day.  The other will hang on my front door.  They are about 14"x8".

My door is steel so I put magnets in little pockets on the back to hang it with. If you look closely at the backing you will see where I appliqued my hearts on after I did the quilting. I like doing it this was because your background fabric is so much more stable for machine appliqueing. It is also much easier to quilt to quilt without going around your applique.

The gorgeous Valentine Fabrics from Island Batik which are always a pleasure to work with.

Here is a list of all of the 2017 Island Batik Ambassadors so you can follow along each month to see what fun projects we each are making. It is so fun to see how everyone interprets our challenge.

  1. That is a very cute wall hanging. And what a clever way to hang it on your door. Now I need to check out my door. Did you machine zigzag your hearts? What a great idea to put the hearts on after that quilting! Thanks for a bunch of good ideas today.

  5. I made my son 'Bird on a Wire' wall quilts, and did the quilting before I appliqued the birds on. Yes, it is much easier that way.
