I heard from Island Batik that I was accepted as an Ambassador again for 2017, YEAH!! Can hardly wait until I get the new box of fabrics, it's gonna be another awesome year.
Yesterday I picked up my kindergarten grandson from school at noon as it was only a half day of school. He was pretty excited to be a 'car rider' for the first time. I planned to have him help me sort my bright string bin. We got started with purple, orange and aqua. By having them sorted I thought I would be able to whip through my RSC17 blocks much quicker. Like I said we started...and then he wanted to know what I was making, how I made it and how the sewing machine worked, inquisitive mind you know:) So I showed him one of my long string blocks and showed him how I made it. A couple hours later we had these 6 blocks done. I thought I would work on all aqua ones since February's color is aqua, but he had other ideas, LOL He wanted one of every color, who am I to stop him, haha. He loved picking out the next string each time, sitting beside me the whole time and watching and asking questions! Usually the door on my sewing room is closed when the boys are over-too many sharp objects for little hands you know. So it mostly a mystery to them as to what is behind that closed door!
Here is our accomplishment... six blocks pieced with phone book pages. I taped two of the smaller pages together to get the long block. He said to me that he wanted to do this again next time he comes over 😊 These will be my RSC17 blocks.
He also made me a Valentine in school that morning! My own heart was so happy yesterday:-)
Oh Vicki isn't it just the best when the grandkids are inquisitive and want to know what's going on and want to learn. Think it's so wonderful when it's our quilting they ask about.
ReplyDeleteThat is just the sweetest story! I hope he gets to come over again soon and sew with you. You are blessed!
ReplyDeleteaww so sweet!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet sweet boy. You made some nice blocks with him, too. He must have been thrilled.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a great afternoon. That valentine's card he made you is adorable. Oh and congratulations on being an Ambassador a again this year, it shows what a good job you did last year.
ReplyDeleteYour afternoon with your grandson sounds wonderful! I love that he wanted to make a string block in every color! What a treat for you!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being an ambassador this coming year! I'm excited for you. I also love the story of your afternoon with you sweet grandson. I especially love that he picked each strip for you and wants to do it again. Your blocks are bright and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun way to spend an afternoon, and how cute that he wants to do it again the next time he visits! Congratulations on getting picked to be an ambassador again too!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I just love that he was so curious and engaged, picking out each string. These blocks will always be super special to you because of that. I hope they end up in a quilt that you either keep for yourself or give to him :)
ReplyDeleteOh Vicki, that just makes my heart melt. You just might have a quilter in the making on your hands! Wouldn't that be AWESOME???
ReplyDeleteWhat a great afternoon. So glad that they had a half day. I'm sure he enjoyed it as much as you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great helper! I don't think you should wait--let him help you make those blocks into a top for a cool little quilt for himself. A new quilter in the making!
ReplyDeleteHe's got nice patterning sense. What great blocks. It's always so much fun when willing little hands help.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely story, and you two got a lot accomplished, special moments.
ReplyDeleteLucky grandma. Pretty strain blocks.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of those memories to hold in your heart. The blocks are so colorful he must have had a great time.
ReplyDeleteSo special to spend time with him sewing. I made string QAYG blocks with my son's class when they were 6. I told the kids that using the machine was like driving a car - the boys all wanted to go fast! Lucky my machine has a speed regulator on it! And no strings or fingers were harmed in the process - a great beginners project for kids.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you both had a 'grand' time and have some great blocks to show for it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a WONDERFUL afternoon you had... sharing the mystery behind the closed door with your grandson. SEW sweet!!
ReplyDeleteAwwwww...what a story. And memories. I remember when my grandkids were little and liked to "help" me sort colors and pick fabrics for blocks. Isn't that fun?
ReplyDeleteAww what fun! and the blocks turned out just great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful story about your grandson and your RSC17s. Maybe you can make a set of them every time he comes over and you will have your quilt made. It's so nice to be able to make good memories. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow so lucky to have a helper. I would sew what colours he wanted too. Great blocks.
ReplyDeleteWonderful story and now your RSC quilt will have some extra love!
ReplyDeleteThat will be a great memory for him when he is older! What fun to sew with grandma!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun afternoon!
ReplyDeleteLooks like he made good choices, too!
ReplyDeleteThose blocks are extra-special now - enjoy the quilt you make! (Has he called dibs yet?)
