I believe I started this quilt in the spring last year as a way to use some 30's type fabric. It was also fun to use the large pineapple ruler from Creative Grids. Nine blocks were all pieced and then left all by themselves to sit and stew as to when I would either add more to the pile or use them in a small quilt. Fast forward to this year and the small quilt won out;) Adding some sashing and a border brought this quilt up to about 40" square. This quilt is my second finish for H2H this year.
As I went to quilt it I found the perfect size of a poly batting that was given to me last year by a friend that was cleaning out her closet. She realized she had purchased way to much batting and knew that I did several donation quilts each year. I assured her it would be put to good use.
I am a lucky girl as another friend gave me yards of fleece and flannel last year too! There was the perfect blue flannel for the back of this one. Thank you my friends! As you can see I kept the quilting simple with a dog bone meander, freehand of course.
As I mentioned this quilt is for H2H and I believe Sarah is having a check in this weekend to see how we are doing with our donation quilts so far this year. I still have a few more to quilt up this weekend. How are all of you doing on your H2H donations. Isn't it just the greatest feeling to be able to make a quilt and give someone a quilty hug!
Have a great weekend everyone!
For as much as I like pineapple quilts, I think I've only made one very teensy tiny one. This one really pops with all those bright colors. I'm studying that meander!
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki! I just LOVE the pineapple block and this piece is a fine example of it. Plus, it sounds like it was just meant to be with the perfect size batting and backing from friends. When everything just falls into place like that, you know you have made the right choices. Thanks for the closeup photo of your quilting pattern. Hmm. Dog bone, huh?! I would have guessed it was a stipple but no matter. I can feel the great quilty squishiness through the computer. Someone is definitely going to be thrilled to receive this beautiful piece. Happy Friday. ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteLove this one, Vicki - lots of pretty color! How nice of your friends to give you just what was needed to finish this quilt, too! That's what I'm running low on - batting and yardage for backings. :)
ReplyDeleteAdorable quilt, Vicki. I really need to open up that ruler and try it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty little quilt! Somebody is going to love it. :)
ReplyDeleteThis little quilt is beautiful. I'm not a fan of 30's fabrics, but this one is really sweet. Nice that your friends were able to help with the finish, too.
ReplyDeleteI love your pineapple quilt.
ReplyDeleteOh Heck ya it needed its own post!! it needs a spotlight too! That is a great quilt - and wow - Look at all those lovely prints!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on such a pretty finish.
ReplyDeleteOo, very soft and pretty! And with the flannel back and soft meander, I'll bet it is just cuddly as all get-out. Congrats on your 2nd H2H finish! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely pineapple quilt. I love using the Creative Grid ruler too to make them. I am not sure what H2H stands for, but I assume it's some charity thing? I really should cut up a lot of my scraps and make a pineapple quilt just to use up scraps.
ReplyDeletewhat a terrific donation! I was working on 2 of my H2H quilts this weekend, too. I was waiting for batting which came. I am not sure about the back for the top I am working on but I may have a solution. Thanks for linking up to TGIFF!
