Sunshine On My Shoulders

Do you remember John Denver's song Sunshine On My Shoulders?  That is the first thing I thought of when Carol announced this blog hop Here Comes The Sun.  You most likely know that Carol, Carla and Joan put on the most fun hops around.  Thank you ladies for hosting and inspiring us to join in the hops!  If you are new here welcome!!  I hope you will look around and maybe even sign up to follow me:)

For this hop Carol suggested we make something to do with sunshine, summer, beaches or something yellow.  It didn't take me long to figure out I wanted to remake a table runner I had already made a few times.  It requires the Accuquilt Morning Star die to make it, but doesn't it just look summery and like a sunshine in these scrappy yellow fabrics.

I wrote a tutorial for Accuquilt on how to make this table runner a couple years ago, you can find it HERE.  I will show you a couple of the steps for the block. You start by adding yellow triangles to the white one, making two of these units for each quadrant of the block.

Make four quadrants and sew them together for the block. This runner is composed of three blocks.

I quilted it on my Nolting Funquilter with an allover freehand hook swirl design. I used Glide thread in a yellow/gold and Hobbs 80/20 for the batting.

If you leave a comment and you are new here please leave me your email address so I can respond, I always seem to get some that come in as a no reply blogger.  And I like responding to your sweet comments!

I hope you are enjoying this week long hop, today is the last day. But you can still visit all of the participants here:

  4. Vicki, this is an awesome summery table runner! I love all those yellows. I’ve been thinking about a yellow quilt lately, so this is a surprise of great inspiration. The sun design for your runner fabulous! Thanks for sharing insights on your block construction.

  6. I like that! I need to look through the accuquilt dies that I have and see if I have what I need to make the Panama Pyramid quilt - I was going to do that one once and passed what I had made to another as I had lost interest, the pieces were quite small but with accuquilt I might be able to just make it little bigger if I have the right dies

  7. It's hard to know where to start on this beauty! The Morning Star blocks are beautiful and make up such a cute runner, but that quilting. Be still my heart! That just took it over the top! I would have to dare anyone who spilled anything on it! LOL!! Great job.

  8. This is so beautiful...love it! It looked so complicated until you broke it down on how it goes together. I may need one of those Accuquilt dies so I can make some Morning Stars. Your quilting is perfect for this and looks amazing. You rocked the theme with your "steaming hot" runner!

  9. That's a pretty one, Vicki! I love the variety of yellows/golds you included. I've tried to make that triangle block with a ruler and rotary cutter and always felt like the ruler was going to slip - I bet the Accuquilt makes that so much easier!

  25. Hi Vicki! That's so funny. I saw your title and started humming that song. I guess I know it. Yes, yes, and yes please. Your runner does like the sunshine in a bottle, er, table runner. So, I see you used my favorite quilting design (swirl hook) and a nifty block. Do you suppose I PINned both of those photos? I sure did. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
