As I was working on this quilt I kept thinking of those orange slice candies that are all covered in sugar!
This is an all Island Batik quilt, made with 4.5" strips. That might seem like an add size but that is the size that would yield me the best use of the fabric. Gingham quilts are so fun to make because you only need to pick three fabrics, cut strips and sew away. Then of course the subcutting happens but it is still a quick make.
While this is a smaller lap quilt at 43" x 52" it also makes a great display piece.
The backing is comprised of one of the front fabrics plus another coordinating orange batik. This was a fun quilt to make, the piecing was done last year and became a UFO in the 'to be quilted' pile until recently. So glad to have this done and listed in the shop. I sold two quilts recently so the drive to finish up more is present;)
We have rain coming in later today and into the weekend so it might just be a sewing weekend. What will you be doing?

"That might seem like an add size but that is the size that would yield me the best use of the fabric." You are a woman after my own heart! : )
ReplyDeleteVery cute! It reminds me of the gingham aprons my grandmother wore almost daily. She had them in a couple of colors, and had embroidered "chicken scratch" designs on the pockets.
ReplyDeleteI've been making some gingham donation quilts lately and they are a lot of fun to make. I love the fabrics you used for this one. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! Reminds me of those orange and vanilla ice cream popsicles!
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty and happy quilt, Vicki! It looks great hanging from your special quilt shelf, too. Looks like it was a lot of fun to make!
ReplyDeleteGreat Orange Slice gingham quilt, Vicki!!! Cute and cheery on your quilt rack! Wow, these dreary days!?!
ReplyDeleteOooh so pretty, Vicki. Now that you speak of it the colors do remind me of orange slices too. Lol. I have always wanted to make a gingham quilt . I need to put that on the need to do list soon. Yours is gorgeous. Have a great weekend in the sewing room. I believe rain is headed my way too. So I will be doing the same. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteWell, you know I like this! And now I want one of those orange candies, just for the memory! Yeah, rain - but that means sewing! Yay!
ReplyDeleteThat looks great. It's a pattern I haven't tried, but I don't find 4.5" an odd size. Tomorrow, I will be working on my Sweet Land of Liberty Quilt, trying to finish Unit 2. Sunday, I won't be sewing, but I might not make it to church, either, with the arthritis issues all this humidity has brought me. =P
ReplyDeleteI've never tried making gingham but sounds like it's very doable! I can see why you thought of orange slice candy. Hmmm, now I need some of that! LOL Our rain is coming in tonight and should be gone by tomorrow morning, but I'll be in the Quilt Cave quilting my May blog hop project...after a little porch and coffee time this morning!
ReplyDeleteNow I want that candy!!! What a great quilt!! and congrats on already selling two!! awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteSo simple but so effective..love orange too!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great looking quilt! I am now going to be craving orange slices all day. Yup, rain for days...so sewing for days...overcame some gnarly blog problems...I have 6 blocks for different projects to catch up on. Hope your sewing during the rain is productive!
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki! Orange gingham?!! You're singing my song, sister. I love orange and all things gingham. Rain, rain, go away; come back another day . . . but it's better than snow! At least we don't have to shovel it. I love every single thing about this finish! It looks fab and very stylish. It'll be snap up quickly, I predict. Happy Sunday! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteYou did a beautiful job on this plaid quilt (and the quilting btw.) It rained off and on from Friday until Sunday afternoon. I spent almost all the time in the studio sewing, planning and reading. Ok, I've been spending a lot of time reading but my goals had been accomplished so why not. (Luckily, clean up the studio was NOT on the list this week.)
ReplyDeleteIts lovely, I've got the Gingham quilt design on my want to make quilt list.
