Accuquilt sent me a new die to try out, it's the Towel Topper die. How fun and quick is this...really quick and fun! This die debuted on the Accuquilt live video yesterday and is for Pre-Order now on their website.
Fold the 12”x 8” fabrics in half to 12”x 4”, press. If you are using the June Tailor kit the batting is preprinted, I folded it in half lining up the preprinted lines. Lay the fold of your fabrics on the fold line of the die, add the 6"x10" mat and run through your cutter.
Lay the above pieces right side together and batting on top. Use pins or clips to hold it together while you sew. Sew around with ¼" seam leaving the accent fabric open. Clip the corners and turn right side out, press. Set aside.
Preparing the towel: After washing, it’s time to add a trim to the bottom. You can use ric-rac, ribbon or such in place of fabric. I chose to use my scallop Accuquilt die and appliqued it on the bottom of the towel. Trim and hem towel to desired length, I trimmed to 20”x 14”.
Applique the gingerbread cookie onto the towel. Did you know that Accuquilt has free embroidery designs to go with the applique dies? Or you can just applique with your sewing machine like I did.
It’s time to pleat your towel to 7” wide and insert into the topper at the accent fabric opening. Topstitch in place.
Add a button closure. And you are ready to hang your towel. What about making several for gifts or selling at a craft show! Think of all the different fabrics and appliques you could use for it!
And here is my finished towel! Wasn't that easy?
What a super cute project, Vicki. Accuquilt has really added some nice dies to their line.
ReplyDeleteThey seem to keep coming up with new ones all the time!
DeleteOh, these are so cute! Love the gingerbread man!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I should use the gingerbread more often!!
DeleteThat is really adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sara!
DeleteThose Accuquilt people keep thinking up more creative stuff! Your gingerbread man towel and topper are so cute, Vicki. Things like that make such great gifts!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how they keep coming up with ideas for new dies!
Deletemy mom used to have those kind of towels on the oven door handle all the time - grandma too. I don't know if they made their own or if you could buy them - cute with the ginger bread die
ReplyDeleteMy mom had crocheted towel toppers on her cupboard/oven.
DeleteFabulous tutorial! I love these, and this is what I would have in my kitchen - but husband is in charge of the towels and fussier than I am. I would have a hand one and a dish one on the stove....the design is really so perfect!
ReplyDeleteThank you! When I signed up for the die I thought I was supposed to do the tutorial for their blog! And then they said oh no that was for me to do whatever I wanted:)
DeleteThat is a cute towel and would make such a great Christmas gift!
ReplyDeletePerfect for gifts for sure!
DeleteThat is so, so cute! How neat that they sent it to you to try it. You're a good advertisement for it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Linda!
DeleteThat is so cute Vicki! Looks like having the die made it easy to cut out, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteFast and easy was the name of the game for sure!
DeleteWhat a great collection of Accuquilt dies. I can envision your towels changing with the season.
ReplyDeleteYes I need to do one for every season!
DeleteSuper cute towel! What a great new die! The appliquéd gingerbread man is the perfect accent!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteIt sure is a different die from their usual ones!
DeleteI love these towels! I need to make some just for me when I want them in the kitchen...my husband has different preferences and he likes to clean up ...who is to argue that.
ReplyDeleteFor sure you can't argue if your DH wants to clean up! Can you hire him out, haha.
DeleteThe scalloped edging and gingerbread man are cute as the dickens!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to see what one can come up with for added cuteness!
DeleteVery cute towel and topper. Hubby hates it when I embroider on towels.... bummer. But the rest is certainly doable.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to 'use' towels without embroidery, and to keep the embroidered ones for decoration:)
ReplyDeleteI'm late to comment on this. but how cute! I bet you'll make quite a few of these - perfect for your shop or for gifts!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I will add these to the shop or keep it just for fun.
DeleteSo cute and quick! Love the rick rack like border you added at the bottom. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.
