Scrappy bricks

I don't know about you but I still have quilt fabric from the 80-90's lurking about. Yes I kinda hate admitting that but on the other hand with fabric getting so expensive I really love having a large stash to shop in!!  When I am making scrappy quilts for donation these work great.

Using the #2 and #8 Accuquilt dies from the 12" cube made quick work of cutting the blue and neutral scraps for the bricks.  I keep checking out the companion sets for the 12" cube too. So many ideas floating about! I like the corner sets too!

I started this quilt in September at retreat and finished piecing the top here at home later on.  The quilting, which I kept simple, was done recently.

I had yardage in these blues also so that became a pieced back and navy binding. The plan is to give this quilt along with six others to my DIL who will give to her church group that goes to the Twin Cities to serve those in need. I hope someone will love cuddling up in it this winter.

  1. I really like that bricks design - perfect for scraps! It could work in any colors. Nice finish, Vicki!

  2. I still have some fabric that is over 20 years old but I have used most of that up over the years but I still have a lot stuffed in cubes - more than one would think can fit in those.

  3. Until last year I had some fabric from the mid '70's!!! That fabric was given to me from my sister since she hadn't used any of it in years and it came from my mom's quilt shop in CA in the mid '70's. I think calico then was about $2 a yard. I still have a few spools of thread from mom's shop too and it's good! Small wooden spools of Belding Cortecelli thread. I have mostly gold color thread left as I don't use that color often.
I don't know if it's at my end or Bloggers, but it seems everyone who comments on my blog is a no-reply now and I was seeing if I could make a comment and my Google Account doesn't show up now! So I used my URL sign in. This drives me crazy!! Better ask hubby if he can see what's wrong. patchouli.moon.studio at gmail dot com

  4. What a great way to use up that older stash. I have some stash from the 90's but not a lot. Looks like you made a good dent in that part of your stash with this quilt.

  11. I wasn't a quilter in the 80's and 90's, so I didn't save my fabric scraps. :( How fun to look back on the fabrics and have those memories. This is a great design for a fast and cute quilt.

  12. What a great job you did on this. I don't have many very old fabrics, except a few from my son's quilt that I loved...I ran across them the other day and am keeping them...from the 90s. This is a fun way to really use up the scraps!

  14. Way to move some older fabrics! I didn't really start quilting until 2000 and it was another 5-10 years before I allowed myself a stash but I think there are a few fabrics I should be moving out at as well!

  15. This is a wonderful quilt that someone will enjoy. My stash started around 2000 because I really did not sew until then. My stash is getting larger, too, so I need to make larger quilts to use it up.

  16. Those older fabrics look great in your brick quilt. Thanks for sharing the AccuCut Cube numbers. I'm pretty sure I've been cutting out rectangles using my 9" Cube. I'm going to make a brick quilt using your layout. I'm just trying to process some scraps. I'll select colors after I cut out a lot of scraps.
