Butterflies

Spring has me wishing for warmer temps and butterflies all around!  This blue, pink and purple floral fabric was calling out to have butterflies flitting about. So I listened;)   I used the Accuquilt butterfly BOB(block on board) die. All the butterfly parts were cut in one pass making this one easy to do.

Mixing in some coordinating prints of blue and pink for the wings along with that cute blue and purple plaid for the bodies and the skinny sashing.  

The background looks like confetti don't cha think?  The quilting is pretty simple but flattering with some ruler work in the background and border while the butterflies insisted on getting some freehand wing detail.

And a perfect backing fabric and the plaid surfaced again as the binding. Ahhh another finish:) What do you suppose will be next in line to work on.

Finishes and blogger issues

I did crank out a couple of finishes this week. The quilting machine was purring right along on Monday and Tuesday and binding happened on Wednesday and Thursday.  These were pieced during the winter. 

Actually I pieced four identical to this one but only quilted two. And only one of those two got the binding on for a complete finish.  The other ones will wait in the wings until I need them for my Etsy shop. I went on the hunt in my stash for a backing, I almost got lost in my box of homespuns. But I came up with the perfect piece that was big enough for these two. 

Recently I posted about working on yellow and white blocks, several of you were anxious to see what they would become. Ta da!!  Here it is. I pieced two of these over the winter and quilted both this week. Once again I only bound one of them.  These are made using the Morning Star Accuquilt BOB die. It makes easy work of cutting and piecing the little triangles. I wouldn't attempt them without the die.

Blogger issues...I used to be able to click the notify me box that you see when you go to make a comment and that way all of your comments came into my email.  In the last two months that hasn't worked. Well shoot I sometimes(ok a lot of the time) forget to check back here on the blog to read comments. I mean a girl(quilter) has lots of things to do and we can't remember them all, LOL.  Is this issue of not getting comments in your email happening to you also?  Anyone heard of a fix for this?

Strawberry finishes

 You might remember back in February I posted that I was making strawberry blocks. I have since turned them into three table runners. Pictured below is one of them. I had previously finished two runners and packed them away. I managed to remember to take this one's photo before packing it away. 

These strawberry blocks are a good scrap buster for 2.5" red squares. I could have used green scraps for the checkerboard border but chose to use yardage for them. 

I also have a start on my table runner for the Table Scraps monthly challenge! It's also the RSC color of the month. Tune in later this month to see the finished project.

Purple maple leaves

I am joining in again this month for the Table Scraps challenge at The Joyful Quilter.  The color this month is Purple and the theme is birds.  I decided to make purple maple leaves using the Accuquilt maple leaf die.  Using the die makes things so quick and easy. 

And then I added a few more fall colors to make this runner.  As for the theme of birds this month, well birds sit/nest in trees and the maple leaves are on a tree;)

I might have gotten carried away and made 12 runners identical for my Etsy shop.  Perhaps next month I will quilt one and get it listed. This is my original design.

Scrappy Maple leaves

When I saw the maple leaf Block on Board(BOB) die at Accuquilt on sale, I decided I wanted it.  Thinking I would change up the colorful paper pieced leaf runners I had been making for a long time. I thought correct and it makes it so much easier to finish the leaves. 

I made my leaves all scrappy, it was fun looking through fabrics to find 7 different prints in each color way. 

The leaves were the only thing I had to quilt different from the paper pieced leaves. 

And one last leaf. I will be carrying this runner in my Etsy shop.

Two UFO's fnished

The two table runners I am about to share with you were pieced about a year ago. Why didn't I finish them you might ask. Simply because I couldn't figure out how I wanted to quilt them. Fast forward to Monday of this week and I had a plan for both of them, YAY!

The star was what was holding me up a year ago and with a plan in place the star was fun to quilt! I pinned the backing onto the leaders on my longarm, layered the batting and top and basted it on. First up was SID(stitch in the ditch) around the thin red border. Then I checked out a path for the star so I only had one start and one stop per star.  I marked it out with white school chalk for the trial run. Yep it worked out perfectly!

After the stars were all done I SID with white Glide thread around the white with red polka dot background and then stippled it. And last were the piano keys for the holly leaf border.

I love how it came out!  The Starry Path Accuquilt BOB(block on board) die was used for the stars.

The perfect backing, I had purchased a bolt of this from Marshall Dry Goods last winter. It will come in handy for a lot more Christmas table runners.  

The second UFO table runner is also one from an Accuquilt BOB die, Arkansas Traveler. 

Same story for this one, I couldn't come up with a quilting design for it until now. 

Each diamond was quilted with continuous curve, each block was only one start and one stop. 

The background only needed stippling to make the diamonds stand out.  Yay two UFO's done, photographed and listed in my shop!

All Foxed Up

Happy 4th of July!

 For all my U.S. blogging friends Happy 4th of July!  

Here is how I decorated my entry way seasonal corner this year. 

The wall quilt is made using Accuquilt's Carpenter Wheel die, 1.5" strip cutter and 2.25" strip cutter(binding).  And their star die for the applique. This was the first one I did for a tutorial on their blog. Since then I have made a few more...

As you can see I replaced the blue stripe with a red gingham. The background was changed also.

On the following one the background was changed yet again.

Are you off to see fireworks on Tuesday night?  We have the two grandsons for the day and for a sleepover, we'll take them to the fireworks. It will be fun but I know I will be tired on Wednesday!

Hunters Star baby quilt

I finally got back to working on the Hunter Star blocks a few weeks ago. 

The first blocks were made in February which I blogged about HERE.  The blocks were so fun to watch come together, would you like to see how they are made?  I cut them out using the Hunter Star Accuquilt die which made them easy to cut and easy to piece accqurately.  Here are the pieces all laid out in order.

And sewing the first pieces together. The die cuts the correct angles of each piece so they line up so nicely. The pieces on top after sewn and pressed look like the one on the bottom.

After those are all sewn and pressed it is time to sew the sections together. Easy peasy! Four of these quadrants make up a 12" block.

And before long you have a quilt;)  With the addition of a skinny green border and larger pink outer border my quilt measures 43".  

Pink flannel for the backing was given to me by a friend. Simple stipple quilting will keep this quilt soft for cuddling.  

On Sunday Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict opened up registration for the annual H2H, Hands2Help comfort quilt challenge.  This quilt will be donated locally for the challenge. I believe the challenge runs from now until early June, so I will have time to finish up a few more. Do you like to make quilts to donate?  It is so satisfying to give knowing they will comfort someone in need. It is also a great way to try new things and turn it into a quilt whether it is big or small.

New Accuquilt Comfort Grip Handle

 Accuquilt has come out with a new Comfort Grip handle for their cutter.  I was provided one to make a  video.  Here I am installing it. 

I want to point out this is only for the Go! Fabric cutter, not the Go! Me or Go! Baby. To figure out which handle your Go! Fabric cutter needs look under the green cap to see if you have a nut or a screw. Accuquilt encourages you to contact their customer service if you are in doubt as to which you have. 

Just having received my handle I have not had time to really experience it, but it does feel better in my hand in just the few tries I have done.  It is supposed to be better for our arthritic hands.

A Fall Starry Path

 Accuquilt has a BOB (block on board) die for this black called Starry Path.  It's such a unique shape that you have to get the die to do it.  And BOB's make it much easier as you can cut for one block in one pass. So four passes provided me four blocks which is what I needed for this runner. 

This runner consists of four different batiks.  I loved how this one photographed so easily!  I used Glide Military gold thread, love that one for fall items as it blends so nicely and leaves just a bit of shimmer. 

Those two friends that brought another gal with came yesterday afternoon and the new gal bought this one.  Another one of them wanted it too, but I don't have enough fabric to make another. That outer border fabric is just so pretty, not sure where I got that one from.  I do have other batiks in a fallish color scheme so I will try to do one of those soon.

Patriotic Carpenter Wheel-Accuquilt tutorial

Finally I can show you what I have been secretly working on!  My tutorial for the Patriotic Carpenter Wheel is live on the Accuquilt blog. You can view the tutorial HERE.

There are several great things about this project, it's only one block, it's fun to make and it can be a table topper or a wall hanging at 24" square.  

Accuquilt provided the carpenter wheel die, the star die and the 2 1/2" die for this project since I am one of their Go! Getters.  I had purchased the 1 1/2" die previously.

Welcome to day 2 of the Accuquilt Go! Getters blog hop.

Go! Build A Snowman- A kid friendly craft!  You know those times when the kids get restless in the winter time, well show them your Accuquilt Go and bring on the fun of building a snowman or two.

You will need the Accuquilt snowman accessories die, circle dies, 2" alphabet, craft foam, sticky back velcro and a framed canvass.  

Maybe you didn't know that you could cut thin craft foam with your cutters!  You bet you can. The kids will love watching the pieces come out in all the shapes.  Use a lot of colors or just a few, that's up to you.  Mix and match the accessories to dress your snowmen.

Don't forget to cut the letters too!

After cutting everything out stick the velcro on the back of the pieces and onto the corresponding spot on the canvass board.  

And now it is time to build the snowmen.
