Sunflowers and maple leaves

Recently I have had people in my Etsy shop looking at fall and Halloween items. I better beef up my supply starting with sunflowers. At least I think of sunflowers as being an early fall sign.

Check out my binding fabric. While messing around in my stash I found this long forgotten yardage of black with metallic gold stripes. I love stripes for binding and this one being cut on the bias, to round those curves, just looks pretty cool!

The first finish of maple leaf runners that I pieced over the winter.

Finding backings in the stash for fall isn't too hard;)

Good thing I snapped this photo of my clematis a few days ago, the rain has since made it droop a bit.

Wishing you all a very happy 4th of July, be safe out there!

Processing scraps

I have kept a bin loaded with all the fabrics I used for my maple leaf runners. There was parts, strips and chunks in there, some leftover from when I did paper pieced leaf blocks. It was getting to be so messy, so Saturday afternoon I did something about that. I processed a lot of scraps into 2.5" squares.

If it was a WOF x 2.5" strip I didn't cut it up, that way I can make strip sets and then cut. My bin looks much neater now! Squares are in one bag and leaf parts in another bag. The strips and sashings are in one pile. There are a few chunks I didn't process yet, I'll do that as needed.

Then I got to making the borders for these two runners that I pieced on Friday. All ready for quilting soon as I am out of these. I love using up some scraps in the process!

Maple leaf progress

Remember all the maple leaf parts I posted about on Wednesday, I worked on 12 blocks. Three of each color. Do you wonder why the pile of gold ones are in the corner by themselves? Well they were in time out!  Wednesday I went to my blog buddy's house to sew....Wendy from Piecefulthoughts invited me up for the day!! We hadn't gotten together in a very long time, it was so fun to catch up and so fun to see her quilt room remodel, ooh la la it was so pretty! Thanks Wendy for a fun day.

Back to the gold blocks that were in time out...I might have been chatting a bit too much and I sewed two pieces wrong in each of the three gold leaves. I didn't allow Jack(seam ripper) to come out of hiding while at Wendy's so I packed them up and went home. Thursday morning I fixed those mistakes. And hurried onward to add the sashings etc. to all twelve so I would eventually have three runners.

After lunch I was getting tired and knew I would not be able to finish them all then. So I decided to take four blocks, the pieced border squares and get one table runner all pieced and find the backing so I could quilt it today while you are reading this;)  See that cute coffee mug and fall fat quarters in it, a gift from Wendy! She is such a sweetie. We had a great day.

I do believe this is my last post for August, can you believe how fast this month/year has gone! I hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day weekend. I know I have some domestic stuff to do, but I also want to quilt.

Purple maple leaves

I am joining in again this month for the Table Scraps challenge at The Joyful Quilter.  The color this month is Purple and the theme is birds.  I decided to make purple maple leaves using the Accuquilt maple leaf die.  Using the die makes things so quick and easy.

And then I added a few more fall colors to make this runner.  As for the theme of birds this month, well birds sit/nest in trees and the maple leaves are on a tree;)

I might have gotten carried away and made 12 runners identical for my Etsy shop.  Perhaps next month I will quilt one and get it listed. This is my original design.

Speaking of Accuquilt (I am an affiliate) these are the sales right now...

Scrappy Maple leaves

When I saw the maple leaf Block on Board(BOB) die at Accuquilt on sale, I decided I wanted it.  Thinking I would change up the colorful paper pieced leaf runners I had been making for a long time. I thought correct and it makes it so much easier to finish the leaves.

I made my leaves all scrappy, it was fun looking through fabrics to find 7 different prints in each color way.

The leaves were the only thing I had to quilt different from the paper pieced leaves.

And one last leaf. I will be carrying this runner in my Etsy shop.

So much fun to jump in and use a new die so quickly! With all this scrappy goodness I'll be linking with Oh Scrap!
