Tulips

My tulips are up and blooming-well they are in this runner not in my flower bed! The tulip block is from Center Street Quilts and is a freebie. While I have made this block before this is a new runner I pieced over the winter, in fact I pieced two identical runners but only quilted this one for now.

On Saturday I hosted my local long arm group here, I had fifteen gals come. It was nice to see them all again as I hadn't seen them since November. We discuss things such as new designs we may have quilted, sharing things we learn along the way, quilt shows we might have been to and of course we have show and tell. I showed this tulip runner and a couple of patriotic runners from previous post. For a light lunch I served pulled pork sandwiches, chips and this cherry dessert... ok so hubby and I had eaten a couple pieces after they left:)

Also, after they left, I cut and pieced this table runner. It now needs quilting and applique so that is on my agenda this week along with quilting a few more.

Tip toe thru the tulips

We all seem very anxious for spring to arrive and stay! We had 52 degrees yesterday and we had our first outdoor walk of the season, it felt great even with a little wind but the sun felt so good.  

Last week before we got the unwanted 4" of snow (which is gone now) I spotted our tulips were up! Yes the real ones outside are up about 3" already, they are on the south side right next to the house so they must have been pushing through while still covered with snow. As soon as the snow melted we discovered them. All that to say I was inspired to make this tulip table runner.

Some curved template in various curvature were used for the tulip quilting and the leaves. The stems received some U turn quilting while the background was happy with a stipple. The red gingham provided the lines for piano key type quilting.

Tip Toe Through the Tulips

Today I decided it was tulip time.  Searched through EQ8 and found this tulip block. I decided to paper piece it.  It went together quickly, after searching for just the right fabrics for it.

 At first I wanted to make each tulip a different purple.  But after getting hubby to look at my choices we decided the dark purple would make a better skinny inner border than a tulip.  So glad I went that route.  Sometimes it is just nice to bounce ideas off someone else.

It was fun to get back on my longarm after a couple months hiatus.  The tulips and leaves were quilted using a couple different rounded templates, first I SID the white background and stippled it.  Lastly I stitched piano keys in the outer border placing them one inch apart.  Glide thread and Hobbs batting were used.

This runner is now listed in my Etsy shop.  Good news, the sunflower runner I posted on Wednesday sold today.  Guess that means I need to make another soon.
