A little knitting and lots of crocheting

When we travel I like to have some hand work that I can easily do while hubby is busy driving otherwise I get bored.  And I have lots of yarn and like to make something useful.  Therefore over the last 3 years I crocheted hats for young kids.  I tried different free patterns and then add my own touches here and there using different stripes or stitches.  These have been done for a while except for weaving in the ends so last week I did this in a couple of evenings. Yesterday I delivered 43 hats to Family Services. I needed to get them done and out to youngsters as we are in the cold spell area that is hitting several states as I write.

The knitting is the start of another sock for me. I love the self striping yarn. And the colors in this are so perfect for me as I wear lots of purple and teal color shirts with jeans.

In the sewing department I have been digging out working on a few UFO's. But that is a topic for another post:)

Stay warm and safe out there!

  1. That's a great lot of hats you made! I like the idea and I have a lot of bits that would work for this. OK...something else to add to my list! Self striping socks are the best and this look to be a great colorway!

  9. WOWEE, Vicki!! Don't you just feel fabulous, dropping off that boxful of warm hats?! They certainly are needed and welcomed at this time of year. And so pretty, too. Self-striping yarn is so cool and so much easier than trying to stripe yourself. Then you'd have all those ends to weave in. Great and generous job, my friend. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  11. What a great use of your time in the car. I sometimes crochet washcloths to keep my hands busy. I bet it felt so good to drop them all off. They are darling! I love the yarn you selected for your socks. Knitting looks so much more complicated than crochet. I’m not very good at counting every stitch.
