So glad to have moved a scrappy UFO along. I had several green string blocks hiding out in the closet.
I added more green blocks and began the blue blocks. These blocks are formed by piecing the strings to a phone book page. Because I wanted the blocks as big as possible they came out to an odd size of 7.75" x 10.75" before assembling into rows. If you piece this way be sure to use a larger needle and a small stitch, this makes for easier removal of the paper.
A couple days later I had a flimsy lap size all pieced. This makes the third blue/green flimsy pieced in the last month. If you missed the other two you can see them HERE and HERE. I do see a small dent forming in the string bin. But I want to see more so I started a fourth flimsy. Not sure I am liking it yet.
Here are the Monday linky parties: Monday Musings, Design Wall Monday, Sew and Tell Monday and NTT What are you working on this week.
I'm not a huge fan of string quilts, but I really like this one. The sashing and the white strip down the middle add so much interest. Great flimsy finish!
ReplyDeleteHum... these blocks look so neat with the white bisecting them. I thought they were placemats from the thumbnail. Surprise -- blocks being made into quilt tops. I assume all quilting will be delayed until you go back north? I'm trying to decide what paper I could piece on to make placemats.... maybe the newsprint weekly advertising that comes on Wednesday. Will ponder on it and give it a try.
ReplyDeletepretty neat
ReplyDeleteI like this one! I made a string quilt with rectangular blocks a few years ago, but didn't add sashing like you did, and it looks great. The blues and greens together are so pretty. Great job whittling down your string bin!
ReplyDeleteThose are pretty string blocks! I make my strings on muslin, never tried it on paper. I guess I should!
ReplyDeleteOh my - those rectangular string blocks are amazing!! And your layout with the sashing and cornerstones is just perfect. You know I'm going to HAVE to make one, or more just for fun. The blue and green make such a good color combo for these string blocks.
ReplyDeleteI've not seen a rectangle string block but I love the quilt it makes. Well done!
ReplyDeleteStunning!!
ReplyDeleteI just adore string blocks. They are great scrap busters. I really like your layout , Vicki. I am going to remember that. Have a wonderful day and Happy quilting. Hugs.
