December goal finish-crumbs

I just got the binding on my crumb quilt that I posted here as my December goal to finish. It had been pieced several months ago maybe even close to a year ago.  This will be a donation quilt.  I like making crumb blocks to use some of the smaller pieces but it seems that it doesn't eat up much of  my crumb stash even in a whole quilt!  By taking the time to piece the border, I used up a bit more.

I have seen many crumb quilts and I really like the ones with the sashing in between the blocks to help break it up or calm it down a bit.  I just needed to get more done so I did a very quick meander all over it. You will see more of the quick quilting in the coming weeks too!

December goal decided

Whew I almost missed getting my December goal announced and linked up at ALYOF. I did miss it last month.  Since I am trying really hard to get my donation 'to be quilted' pile cleaned up, I picked another of those to do. This is a crumb quilt with sashed blocks, I am not 100% sure but I think I finished piecing it earlier this year. So a little quilting and a little binding and it will be done!

Picking just one for October goal

It's kinda hard to pick just one project when I have so many that need doing this month. But this is the one... It's one part of a 3 part panel and I added the borders from the Neutral one out. It's just a wall hanging that needs to be quilted and bound and ready for one of the craft shows.  Linking to ALYOF

ALYOF-September finish

I am a little ahead of the game this month for once!!  My September goal for ALYOF was this fall round wedge topper. I had to applique the center circle, quilt and bind it, so not so bad. But I also had lots of other personal goals that I had set for myself so having this goal to meet was good for me to get in gear!!  So I am keeping this post short so I can go get more things done!!  As soon as the end of the month linky party opens I will link up with it!  It's always fun to see how many others met their goal too.

Decision made for September...

I finally made the decision of what my goal will be for September for ALYOF. A pretty simple one and I sure have lots of personal goals of finishing things up for the craft shows in addition to linking up to ALYOF. But I choose this wedge topper for my September project to link up at the end of the month. Appliquing it's center then quilting, trimming and binding.

A Cobblestone Path-finish

I finished up my Cobblestone Path quilt in time for my monthly goal at Sewbittersweetdesigns for August.  I absolutely love everything about this 46.5 x 65.5" lap quilt.  I talked a bit more about this quilt in this post.  I had a bunch of fun quilting it up this past week.

The white fabric begged me to do U turn quilting on it, and then I wanted these fun funky feather vines on it and thought I could do columns of them if I ignored the piecing and I think it worked out wonderfully. The idea for the feather vines came from Luann Kessi, her sketches are very inspiring! Just look at the texture that I got with the quilting!

Found just the right backing in my stash!  Love when that happens ;-)   The price was right at the red tag 50% off fabric sale at JoAnns even if I didn't know what I would use it for at the time, LOL   Off I go to pick out next month's project!!

Just for fun

Friday I saw this Cobblestone Path free quilt pattern on Moda Bake Shop and decided Saturday morning I had the perfect fabrics to whip it up. So in between some summer fun activities Saturday and Sunday I got my flimsy put together. So easy to sew up but oh sew fun to look at!

The 2 green fabrics on the far right and the orange on the left are what started the whole thing. I was at Quilt show in Rosemont, Illinois a few years ago-yes they have been aging(like a fine wine)- and I fell in love with those prints which were half yard pieces. Then I tried last year to find coordinates in the stores here-wasn't happening, the shades were just not right. So one day I was going through my stash for something else and I thought wow that orange looks nice so I pulled it out and WOW I couldn't believe it was the perfect one to add to it!!  Love how that happens, makes me so happy I have a LARGE stash ;D  It is the one in front on the right.  Next I found some pieces that went well with them at SR Harris last fall. Then they sat just waiting for the right pattern to pop into my head or computer, haha  It was meant to be as I needed 10 prints and a background and I had just the right amount!

Sneaking in with a finish!

Just getting this finish done in time for ALYOF for July.  I had posted it as my goal here, so I won't go into detail other than to say I had a lot of starts and stops which means tying and burying threads, But it was necessary in order to obtain my goal. I stitched around each leaf and circle. I gave the border a special treatment by using my Deloa Jones cable template.  Glide thread and Hobbs 80/20

I see a lot of people were successful in completing their goals, check them out for great inspiration!

And just for fun, this is where I went today...

Oh so crazy, but oh so fun!!!  SR Harris in Brooklyn Park, MN.  These 2 rows are all Batik's plus there was one more. Then many, many rows of cottons, and of course I always want the one on the bottom, LOL  Then there are flannel rows, wool rows, silky and fancy fabrics, it is just something to see if you are ever in that area!!  Plan to spend a few hours, oh and you cut and mark it all yourself unless you are buying more than 5 yds of one piece. Then you put it all back too!  You work for it a little but so worth it as it is quilt shop fabrics for 1/2 the price, so $6-6.50 for cottons and $7.50 for batik's.

Did I buy anything you ask...well yes of course I did, haha!  Didn't get a pic of that yet though.

July goal for ALYOF 2015

I have many projects I am hoping to finish this month. Several that just need to be quilted and bound, both quilts and table runners. However, since we only choose one project per month for ALYOF, I am setting my goal to finish this one. It is a preprinted panel in the center and I added 2 borders,  after quilting I hope it will look appliqued :-)  It is approximately 50" long and 22" wide.  I will be using Hobbs 80/20 for the batting.  I wish everyone a productive month-let's get quilting!!

Meeting another goal

I am pleased to have met my June goal for ALYOF  2015!

Last fall I won these gorgeous fat eighth hand dyed fabrics from Vicki Welsh 's blog.  I knew I wanted something to hang on my wall of sewing/knitting room.  But it took a while to decide.  While watching TV one night a couple months ago I caught of glimpse of something like this and an idea was born!  I cut 1" strips and laid them out in a pleasing order to me, added some white strips from my stash.  Then it just sat around for a while until I came up with a quilting plan and Sunday I put it

on my longarm and quilted it up, bound it yesterday and now I will go hang it on my wall :-)  It measures in around 19" square. I used Hobbs white batting which I think is 80/20 and glide thread in a very light silver which looks white on white fabric. 

Look at how cool the quilting looks when you look at an angle across the quilt. 

I am very pleased with how it came out and how it shows so nicely in the sunlight this morning to snap some pic's!  I found it interesting how the quilting on the back looks so different with just a little different angle to the camera.

June goal for ALYOF 2015

This month I had a hard time picking one thing I wanted to finish up. Not because I don't have any projects that need finishing but that I just couldn't settle on the one I 'felt' like doing.  But this is the one I chose...

I had won this rainbow of bright hand dyed's from Vicki Welsh last fall, aren't they so pretty!!  It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to make with them. I knew I wanted it for a wall hanging in my sewing room. One night while watching television an image passed on the screen that lead me to make this. Each strip is only cut 1" wide, I usually don't work with that small of a strip but it really wasn't too bad.  Now to figure out how I want to quilt it this month.
