All Foxed Up

This summer I did a tutorial for the Accuquilt blog, it went live yesterday!  As a Go! Getter we get asked for ideas for dies when they are released or relaunched. I submitted the idea of using the Fox Die to applique a cute Tshirt for my granddaughter for her birthday.

Leaf table runner and QAL

One day I was playing around in EQ8 and came up with this table runner.  It sat on my computer and on my brain for a few weeks before I got around to stitching it.

I quilted it and then raw edge appliqued the leaves on.  Since they are batiks I am not worrying about if they ravel so I straight stitched them on.

 I like it so much I made another!  What do you think should I write up a pattern for it?

I am working along with Sarah's 12 days of Christmas QAL, I am doing mine smaller. This will also be my July challenge for Island Batik fabrics.  I hope you will come back next week to see my finish.  Here are my first blocks all pieced.

Applique in April

Adventurous Applique in April

This little quilt was in Quilts and More, spring 2014, and has been on my 'to do' list for a while. It's just so cute and springy!   When I saw the April Island Batik challenge for us Ambassadors was applique, I knew it was time.  I had the perfect spring batiks from Island Batiks Dotalicious line.

The quilting was done before the applique. This just makes it so easy to do the background quilting without having to go around the applique pieces. Plus you don't have to add any stabilizer to applique process then.  Since batik's don't ravel like regular fabrics I didn't use a fusible, however, I used Elmer's glue on the edge and ironed them onto my background.

 Embellishments can add a bit of fun flare to the wall hanging.

The jagged stitching is an applique stitch on my Janome 7700. It makes a great edging on leaves.

My door was looking kinda bare so I made this into a door quilt. Little pockets were stitched onto the back to hold magnets as my door is steel.

Leaves, Dolls and a meeting

What a goofy title, right?  Many things going on this past week for me. First up is finishing up 2 more table runners. I have used Connie's pattern before and loved it, so I thought I should make a few more for the fall craft shows. Connie's has hearts for Valentine's Day, however I love seeing patterns made in different colors. So the bottom one is like what I have done before, then I got to thinking what if I switched the blocks around and put the black in the center. I like it!!!  The original plan was to applique two big leaves in the center of each black after I quilted it.  But I kinda like it plain-what is your thought?

Next up the dolls sporting their new outfits.  The sun was mighty bright when I took these pictures!

And last but not least, last week I had the fun opportunity to meet in person a fellow Island Batik Ambassador who is also from Minnesota. Suzy and I decided to meet at a quilt shop(I know you are all 'sew' surprised) All in Stitches in Zumbrota.  Suzy has a new book out on Applique and I will be participating in a blog hop in October doing a project from her book, so stay tuned!
