Stars and Stripes

 Playing with my patriotic fabrics is still going on. This first one I had pieced last year and didn't need it in the shop so it was waiting for this year. That makes for a quick finish, and it is gone already. I have one more I can quilt and get listed and then I will have to start making them from scratch.

The backing is from the bolt I bought at Marshall Dry Goods.

This one I made from the ground floor up this week;)  It's one of my original designs I did a couple years ago and forgot to make more for the shop. So we'll see how this one goes. 

I quilt the blue piece and then applique the stars and stripes.

Swirling Stars

 Two swirling stars were pieced, quilted and bound over the weekend.

This is a free pattern from Krista Moser using the 60 degree Diamond ruler from Creative Grids. You strip piece and then cut and sew back together. It might look a bit complicated but it is not!

And before long you have two halves ready to be assembled into a finished topper.

I used some squares that were given to me plus some I had precut myself for the backing.

Both table runners were quilted with the hook swirl that looks good on everything!

I had the perfect blue backing fabric to match the shade of blue in the star.  I better get cracking on sewing/quilting the next runner.  Hope to see you at these linky parties...Monday Musings, Sew and Tell Monday. Design Wall Monday

Three finishes

In my last post I showed two table runner UFOs that needed done ASAP. Well here they are all finished. I had to sew on their borders, quilt and bind them. 

A quick hook swirl quilting was perfect to get these done fast.

The pattern is in one of GE Designs books.

Not only did I finish these two but also quilted this morning star table runner. Cut using the Morning Star Accuquilt die. This was pieced over the winter, I have one more identical to quilt. 

I hope to get a few more quilted over the weekend as we have no plans as of yet. We created an opportunity to see our daughter, SIL and the three grands earlier this week so that was good since we hadn't seen them for quite a while.

Patriotic Parade #2

Happy 4th of July to all my U.S. followers!

 Let the second Patriotic Parade begin.  Another favorite design to piece is my reversed S swirl runner. Fun and easy to make using a 10 degree wedge.

This is a pattern from GE Designs in one of her books.

A ten degree round wedge in red, white and blues.

Using a 60 degree diamond ruler and a pattern by Krista Moser I created this topper easily.

Patriotic Parade

 During the last couple months I have worked on a few patriotic table runners. I wanted to save them to show you during our July 4th week. For those of you in the U.S. this is Independence Day week.

This is one of my original designs and it is a favorite for me and my customers.

Stars and Stripes and Slippers

It's here, it's here...the New Year, 2025!!

I know it might be early to start working on patriotic projects, but hey I was in the mood;)  My original stars and stripes design has been a popular one for me so I hope to have 8 pieced over the winter. These are the first two. These were started on Dec 30th 2024 and finished on January 1st. 

And to continue the blue theme is a pair of hand knit blue and gray slippers. I used a blue 4 ply with a gray sport weight yarn for these. It's fun to mix the colors and see how they come out. These are actually a size that fits me. The pattern is called Grandma's slippers found on Fave Crafts. I only knit on these a little each night as I am in no hurry, it's all for fun.

I started another pair with different yarns in a small size this time.  Lots of people are making plans for projects in 2025, my plan is very loose...do what I feel like and enjoy it!!

Patriotic

 Patriotic table runners for this Memorial Weekend. While in AZ I had pieced four of this in these prints and have been quilting them now as needed. 

This is my original design and all made using my Accuquilt dies including the binding. 

And the backing. All from my stash. I seem to have collected a lot of patriotic fabric over the years, there will be no new patriotic fabric to enter my house this year!

Next I pieced four in these prints.

Since the light color is more cream than white I pulled out a red, beige and blue plaid homespun for the backing on this one.  Did you get in on the homespun craze several years ago...seems I did. I was buying it mainly for use in doll making, bunnies, bears, scarecrows and of course for snowmen too. Since I now only want to quilt I make none of those, so I am slowly whittling away with them by using them for backings. I keep thinking I would really like to make a country feel quilt with some, wonder when that will happen!

How is it that we got into March already!  Ok I know, day by day, LOL. But seriously the time has flown by so fast already this year, before long it will be summer.  Well in my creative mind I am thinking ahead to summer at least and making a project for the Table Scraps challenge at The Joyful Quilter. The color for February was red and the theme was hearts. I didn't have the right fabric with me for hearts so I settled for just using red. I'll get to the red in a minute;) but first we have some blue and white, lots of flying geese units.

That turned into partial star blocks. 

And when sewn together with stripes of red and white you get a bunch of these, see I told you I would get to red in a minute, LOL. 

I have four identical patriotic table runners for the Table Scraps challenge that have red in them! Here is just one so you can see the whole runner.

I see the color for March is Purple and the theme is Birds, what will we whip up this month.

Rising Star

Some fun was had on Saturday trying out the Accuquilt Rising Star die. I bought it in either November or December when they were having daily deals.  It makes a 10" star in a star block. 

That center star is small and I wouldn't want to do it without the die because it was a snap to make with the dog ears all cut off before you even begin! 

I made all the stars on Saturday afternoon and finished the piecing on Sunday. 

Quilted it and bound it on Monday. And got it listed in the shop after taking photos Tuesday morning.

I made it versatile by putting a hanging sleeve on the back so my customers can choose if they want it as a table topper or a wall hanging.
