One UFO scoots away

Last weekend I quilted two UFOs and yesterday got one of them bound. This is a free pattern called Scooter by Lindsey Weight.  I don't have a good excuse as to why this became a UFO for so long except I didn't take time to get it done.  It wasn't a priority back then and wasn't now except to help clean out that closet one UFO at a time, so I can put more in, ya know!!!  Well it made me feel a teensy better to make that little space.

I certainly could have just did a quick all over quilting design but I thought it would be fun to do a little custom quilting on it.

A piano key type quilting in the outer border, with straight lines in the white sashing. The squares received an orange peel while the rectangles got wishbones.

A perfect backing was found in my stash;)  The yellow with grey dots had been hanging out in my stash about as long as this flimsy was!  Notice I didn't say how long that was.  The yellow wasn't quite wide enough so I added in a grey polka dot stripe.

I'll share a couple of my pretty flowers...this lupine was purple in previous years and this year it turned pink!  The purple tiny petunia like flower in this pot I picked up at an Amish greenhouse, it is really growing nice.

And to the right of the lupine are my Calla Lilies, there are now three of them open. They always look so tropical I love them!

And in the flower bed by the pond is this really dark purple iris, it is so regal looking.

Scooter

Whoo hoo, another FAL 2017 finish for second quarter!!  I figure while I am in the mood I better check another off the list😊  There is also the push to finish this up for a donation quilt for H2H.  My H2H donations will go to the local Project Linus.

I did a simple stipple allover free hand for the quilting and used a variegated yellow orange Coats and Clark Star thread.  Keeping the quilting simple allows me to get more done.

The pattern is Scooter which I found free at FortWorth Fabrics.  I did add another row to this quilt.

I think most of the fabric got used up by piecing the back.  I didn't get a good shot of the binding, but it is the orange checked.

Keeping my post short as I do want to move onto the next one!

My view this morning

This is my view out the window this morning.  A poor little Chickadee had to brave the ice to find some sunflower seeds, but luckily DH had filled it yesterday before the rain started in. It rained most all afternoon through the night best I can tell. At least it was raining when I went to bed and when I got up. It is icy out there today and loads of cancellations today.   I will be staying home sewing and quilting.

Saturday was our monthly Mod Squad where a few of us friends get together to sew. I started another Scooter quilt and finished putting the rows together and put on the border yesterday.  This is a free tutorial from Fort Worth Fabrics.  On this quilt I added another row to get a rectangular quilt.
As for today I could cut another quilt, or go piece a backing and get a quilt on the frame. Hmmm, which to do!!! What are you working on today in your little corner of this vast world?

Stars and a Scooter

Continuing with a blast from the past-my blue/mauve collection left from the 90's.  While digging through my bin of blue and mauve's I found 18 star blocks all pieced, I added 6 more and some sashings. And why not use more of those fabrics for a piano key border and a pieced back!  Even if these are not current colors I think it turned out really cute!

I decided to keep the quilting simple with just a large stipple so I can get this out the door to Project Linus.

And here comes the Scooter- A free pattern by Lindsey Weight at Fort Worth Fabric.  What a fun quick quilt to make up for baby!  This is the first done of the three I have pieced lately.  You could make this totally scrappy or a little scrappy(which is what I did).

When it came time to take pictures, I mentioned to DH that I needed to come up with better ways to take pictures instead of just throwing the quilts on the deck or ground/snow.  He said how about the bright orange grandson's sled. Wow it worked perfectly for color!

An allover freehand flower complimented the orange outside border fabric.
