A finish for RSC16

This is the last time you all will have get to see this quilt. Each month since January (with an exception of a couple) I made a block with the color chosen over at So Scrappy.  This month was our finish it up month. I am happy to report I am totally done. I love how it came out.

The pattern is from Summer 2015 Quiltmaker's 100 block magazine.

I kept the quilting simple with an allover freehand swirl/lettuce leaf feather on my Nolting 17" Funquilter.

I had the perfect orange fabric in my stash for the backing and binding. So glad I have this one done.  Now off I go to finish up the second one.

I will leave you with another Christmas corner in our house on this cold in MN Saturday.   I love snowmen which I can leave up for longer than Christmas.  The word snow are those chipboard letters you can buy from Hobby Lobby.   Wishing you all a very happy Holiday season.

2nd RSC16 flimsy finish

Last weekend I finished up the first RSC16 flimsy and now I have the second flimsy finished. Ahhhh it feels so good to be nearing the finish of these. I love them but also am tired of looking at them, LOL
So plain and simple here it is...

You will notice I added the top and bottom borders just like the one from last weekend. I needed to make it rectangular instead of square(for my own purposes!).  So out came the scrap bin again, better to use more up so I can get the lid on it;-)  Did you notice how I color coordinated the border with the block right below or above it?  So glad I did that rather than a hodge podge of colors along the width of the border.

I hope everyone is getting their RSC16 flimsies together!!  Next month we quilt and bind them. 

Now onto Christmas decorating inside and out for the next week. But I will still find time to sew in between. After all I have to try out my new Koala Sew Comfort Chair-it's my Christmas present. I wanted to get it early to get a special for Black Friday at my local sewing center.  I am not sure that it wouldn't have been that price all along but it sounded good, LOL  

What I love most about this chair is that it can raise up to a ridiculous height.  My sewing counter is higher than what a sewing cabinet would be and I have not been able to find a comfortable chair to raise that high until now. The fact that it has 5 legs(a definite plus), instead of my old office chair with 4 and it swivels so nicely. Too many times I have almost tipped that thing over.  Now I won't ever want to leave my sewing room, oh wait it was like that before, hahaha.

One RSC16 flimsy

I had pedal to the medal yesterday and moved one of my RSC16 projects into the flimsy category! Square quilts are not my thing unless they are on my wall, and this one was square so what should I do. Of course add a top and bottom border and in the process use more scraps-a win win! The pattern for the blocks is on Moda Bake Shop-Tropical Punch.

I am really liking how it came out, so this is what I am crushing on this week. Since it is a donation quilt I will keep the quilting simple for next months finish!  It measures about 44x55.  At this point I am thinking scrappy binding, but we'll see when it is time.

scrappy goodness

I started 2 new scrappy donation quilts today, yes 2 in one day. Crazy right?  Today was a meeting of sewing friends. We call ourselves The Mod Squad because we all liked modern quilting. But it has evolved more into sewing whatever we want when we meet, doesn't have to modern. So I needed something easy to sew while chatting away.  So strip sewing it was, then of course cutting and re-sewing. I got the interior of this quilt together. I'll show you the whole thing of course when I get the borders on and everything is pressed.  Sorta teasing you aren't I, sorry;-)  I love the pink print!

The second one I worked on today was another Wiggle quilt. I only got the strips sewed and started cutting when it was time to go home. Since strip sets are not all that exciting I will show you that another day too.

And this one I started a few months back when we had blue as our RSC16 color of the month. I made 2 blocks and didn't continue. So now that the end of the year is coming I need to get my rear in gear!!

I have 2 more blue blocks cut and ready to sew.  Then I will do 10 green and put into a quilt about lap size. This a tutorial from Missouri Star called Disappearing churn dash pinwheel. Easy and fun to make. I love so many of their tutorials and hope to do more soon.

Scrap Happy

This is my second set of blocks for RSC16.  I missed a month so catching up on the gray ones and this month is yellow. Next month we need to assemble the top.  While I have enjoyed making these in the color of the month, I will also be glad to have them done. Moving onto other projects you know.

These are the blocks they will be joining. I do think I might need to make more, or I will be adding borders. Although I started out with the intention these would be neonatal quilt donations. Therefore, keeping them around 36" square.

Scrappy Yellow and Gray

I have been slacking in my RSC16 blocks, so today I caught up with my grey August blocks and my yellow October blocks for one of my 2 scrappy's in progress. I decided not to do the brown and the red blocks.

Here are all my blocks layed out. I am happy with them like this-at least for now;-)

June and July RSC16

I am still playing catch up with things after getting home from vacation!  My RSC16, June and July, blocks were at the top of the list yesterday. Today I am glad to report they are all done!  Aqua was the color for June and hot pink for July.  Each month I have been making blocks for 2 different quilts.

This one is from the Summer 2015 Quiltmakers 100 Block magazine.  My string bin runneth over, so I am trying to help get the lid back on, LOL

This is the way I planned to lay them out after all the colors are made.

But then my friend Jasmine planted a seed of  'Have you tried laying them out in an X'.  Well no I had not, so of course I had to then:-)   Now I like them both so maybe someday I will have to make more blocks!

Tropical Punch from Moda Bake Shop caught my eye and so that is my second RSC16  quilt. Two of each color gets made each month.

 The original has corner stones, but, I stopped putting them on the blocks after the first 2 blocks. Not sure if I want to put them in the quilt or not. That decision will be made after all the colors are made also.

More green scraps-different block

Here is the second block I have been working on for RSC16.

And with their brothers and sisters.  You will notice I have cornerstones on the blue blocks and not the rest. After making the second color set I thought I might not want them. So I stopped adding them, for now at least. I will not be adding brown to these or the ones I posted last Saturday. I felt that brown just doesn't play well for the look I am going for.

A short post today folks, it's a glorious day outside and I am going to spend most of it outdoors!

My green blocks for RSC16

Here are my first set of green blocks for this months RSC challenge.

Using scraps

Yesterday, since it was a drippy dreary day here, I decided I better catch up on my RSC16 blocks. This month's color is orange. I love using brights for kid donation quilts, and orange fits in perfectly for these blocks.

And here the orange has joined it's partners of blue and purples. I am really loving this block and how it plays together so nicely with the different color blocks. I can hardly wait to see what color is next. 

I have chosen to work on 2 different blocks each month. This is Tropical Punch from Moda Bake shop.

And with it's partners from January and March. I just couldn't bring myself to do brown blocks with either of these patterns. I love browns but just not with the brights.  You see the blue blocks have cornerstones, at this point I  can't decide if I should continue with them so I'll wait and see.

Design Wall

Purple is for March

RSC16's color for March is purple. As I was thumbing through the Summer 2015 Quiltmaker's 100 Block magazine last week I saw this block. I have been wanting to start a quilt like this and just put it off. But since joining in RSC this year I thought it was the perfect quilt to make and add blocks each month. So I am going with 4 blocks each month, I'll have to back up and get the blues done, I'll skip the brown-it just doesn't appeal to me.
