Squiggles and Wiggles

Yesterday there were a few people interested in my squiggle and wiggle quilting on the Spiderman quilt. Here is a drawing from my white board to help you better understand how to execute it.

  

When doing this on a quilt I try to keep my lines 3/4" apart, but, that will vary depending where you are at. Don't stress over it as it will all blend in at the end anyway.  If you visualize a topographical map it may also help you stitch this out.  So just start stitching making some squiggles and wiggles and through in a swirl with a rounded end and work your way back out echoing as you go.  You may echo as much as you want before starting a new path. I love stitching this out as it is very forgiving and free flowing and the texture it leaves is amazing!

March OMG

Yesterda, as I was working on another squirrel, I decided upon my goal for March. Custom quilt and bind this quilt that has been languishing in the closet for just over a year(not too bad!).  I even had time last night to piece the backing so I am hoping to get it on the frame this week.

Progress

I have been meaning to post the progress of the purses, I now have 9 totally done. Two more to go for this batch, but that will be a few more days before I finish them. These are from a pattern I made up. They are for sale if anyone is interested. They will also go out to craft sales this fall.







Today I decided I would join this New York Beauty Quilt Along. I am late in starting so I have some catching up to do, LOL  However I did complete these 2 blocks today. I have always wanted to do a small NYB but just never took the time. This will be a wallhanging when done. They are paper pieced so that part is perfect but sewing to the solid pieces is a bit trickier, I thought it worked well as I was doing it, but they didn't measure a perfect 8.5" when done. I am using reproduction prints.

Quilting, quilting, quilting!!

These stack and whack style blocks have been percolating in the back of the closet for 6 years probably! They were supposed to be a vest way back when, and now I think what an ugly vest that would be, so I turned it into a quit to be donated.

This is a strippy tumbler quilt, a fun one to piece using leftover strings, and fun to quilt with freehand ferns.

Project Linus quilts

Just finished binding these 4 quilts between yesterday and today and delivered them to Project Linus. It is so rewarding to donate them to a worthy organization.

Happy Valentines Day!

I spent the day quilting, what else, LOL. Well the hubbs and I went out last night for dinner, had to celebrate early so he could still go to league tonight.

Even though I quilted this quilt a couple years ago it is still one of my favorites and is fitting to show today.

So yep it's been a long time ago that I started this blog and have not kept up to date as you can well see, LOL. And I hate blogs that do that, go figure!

I have been keeping busy so far this year with piecing several quilt tops for charity in Jan. and I went to a wonderful quilt retreat, had so much fun with friends. This month, I am trying to get lots of those quilt tops quilted and bound and maybe even out the door. Here are a few pic's of some.

Happy Spring! Yes it may be on the horizon in MN, LOL. The snow is gone but there is still ice on the pond. The Daffodils are close to opening :-) Ok so maybe I will only post on the new season, haha. It's not that I don't have anything to say but that it takes time away from getting my projects done!
Right now I am trying to get things ready for a spring craft sale. Quilting table runners, wall hangings and purses, knited dishcloths. Making some candy wrappers from paper. But during all this I need/want to do some other things too, like for me or for charity donations.


This little wall hanging was pieced by a friend and fellow longarmer and quilted by me...
Our local longarm group is doing this for a challenge at MQS 2010. We all got the same quilt and then we go quilt it and see how they all look so different even though they are the same pattern and fabric. Can't wait to see it hanging there, so yes I am going to MQS in May.

Wow my first blog post, never thought I would be doing this, LOL. But with all my crafting I thought I'd give it a try. Not sure how often I will be able to update, but will do as time allows.
Sure wishing our son and his fiance would have made it down for Christmas but the weather in Minnesota is just not cooperating for that to happen. However our daughter and her hubby, who live across town, will be over for dinner tonight, so that will be nice.
I am so excited that my dear, sweet,generous hubby is getting me a Nolting quilting frame for Christmas. I have been quilting on a Super Quilter table top frame for close to 7 years now. First I had a Juki sewing machine on it for a year and a half, then moved up to the Nolting 16" Hobby Quilter on it when DH built me a wonderful sturdy base to put it on. After another year and a half Nolting came out with the Funquilter 17". Nolting machines are the greatest! Since we have empty nested DH finally agreed to let me turn our son's old room into my new quilting studio. I had been quilting in the basement, but will now be on the second floor in a much better environment. And since we could not get the old base up all those stairs and around corners he decided he would get me the new frame, which should take about 3 weeks to arrive. So I am painting the room tomorrow(I think). I will also move my stamping stuff up there. So lots of work ahead so it is all done when the frame arrives and I can get back to quilting.
